LOL, to many nightclubs and concerts as younger guy, could explain why it's no so made for me hehehe. Yes the RTP's are still Extremely loud and louder than i first thought. Although it is growing on me more and more that i drive it.

I had an off-road X-pipe and Magnaflow cat-back (straight-through mufflers, similar to the FI) and I think volume wise they are comparable. The FI CBE is just loud and deep at lower RPMs... I'm sure my Mustang was louder at WOT.

Been trying to get some decent video but my camera is not cooperating with sound. Will see if I can get anything up tonight.

MrBMW 09-27-2009 05:19 PM

So heres a the Cold Start Up. I did this yesterday morning around 0830 and dont forget this just from a point and shoot camera. It still does give a good idea of the sound to be expected. You do need to turn up the Volume though:tup:

More coming soon.

Some videos.

Here are the other little Videos i have done.

This first one starts in an underground carpark, then onto a normal road with cruise set @60km in 5th gear.

This one is going onto the highway with hard accelaeration in 2nd-3rd gear. Then i set crusie @100km in 6th gear.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Quoj7n1w7x8

Lastly just a littte blast into a corner with 2nd-3rd gear.

MrBMW your videos make me ready to go back outside and drive my car, lol. Sorry I haven't had a change to make any videos yet... busy weekend and just enjoying driving the car non stop.

I did go back to the OEM cats today... BTW... anyone who has done HFC or testpipes... the first time we did this we did the whole remove the intakes, long extensions, etc. Now that we're using SS hardware and broken them off, I was able to put the OEM ones back on completely from underneath the car. Me and a friend swapped the cats on our backs with the car on jackstands in about an hour or so, no crazy extensions and certainly not having to worry about the steering shaft (I would imagine this applies to headers only?)

Anyhow, impressions now that the car is back on OEM cats... still loud, still REAL deep, but a little more mellow and not nearly as agressive sounding. A little less drone I suppose... but I kind of miss that "raw" and "mean" sound the HFCs provided me. But still very happy on OEM cats. This exhaust just sounds so beautiful. In one weekend I've received more compliments than ever, and had neighbors flag me down to check it out or give a thumbs up. Everyone loves the sound this system provides.

crbn_fbr is local to me as well, I'm planning on meeting up with him and hopefully get a video to compare the 12" vs 18" resonators... I'm curious to hear the difference in person.

I agree, pretty damn good sound quality on those vids.

Almost getting me as anxious about my FI exhaust as daine.

m4a1mustang 09-28-2009 12:48 PM

Nah... don't want it any louder!

FuszNissan 09-28-2009 12:53 PM

I wouldn't. Well, berks atleast. I get a bad hiss. It's annoying.

kdo2milger 09-28-2009 12:56 PM

from where on the hfc's is the hiss coming from? or is it just a design side effect...

I don't know if it is the honey comb that is causing it when the back pressure is released, but when you rev it or let off the gas, your car hisses at you...lol That is the best way to put it.

Just think it's not hissing at you, but at the cars around you... :stirthepot:

m4a1mustang 09-28-2009 01:15 PM

The hiss is no good. Honestly, I think the 18" CBE sounds perfect. The best way I can describe it is as 2003 Cobra with HFC X-pipe and Magnaflow CBE meets Ferrari F355. Nice and deep rumble at low RPMs which transitions into that mid-range howl the Ford 4.6L's all have and then the higher pitched scream from the F355 at the top of the range. :)

so by your methodology....i drive a pissed off Ferrari

i can dig it :icon17:

DannyGT 09-28-2009 01:27 PM

No...The hiss will come from any test pipe...and to answer one of the posts above me, its not being caused by a particular design flaw, its actually a harmonic resonance (think, frequency) that caused this sound at different rpms. I went threw a long drawn out process and the sound while being caused by test pipes, could almost be felt in the area where most X/Y configs meet. It was very odd, but that resonance was definitly caused by the test pipes.

Usually, between 2-3k while on the gas you can get a hiss/metalic zing/flutter type of sound, very very annoying in my book. Also, on decel during those same rpms, its just a straight hiss...

When I changed from the berk non-res test pipes to the GTM resonated ones it dramatically reduced the sound. In fact, I dont get that rattle on accel anymore, just a slight hiss on decel around 2500rpms.

From what I can tell, it may be possible to kill the sound all together by using those FI pipes that had a HFC & resonator all in one...I also heard that a true-dual exhaust with no connection (h/x/y) doesnt make the sound either. But it also doesnt make good power compared to a nice X setup.

dainedazz 09-28-2009 01:40 PM

all i know is that i hope that the cbe + long tube headers will create bigger and larger power gains vs. cbe + hfc/test pipes :D

and ofcourse have a sexier RAWR to the sound note

It should no problem.

Working on getting some in-cabin video processed so I can upload. Went for a casual cruise this evening so I could give you guys an idea of what the 18" res CBE is like.

m4a1mustang 09-28-2009 09:37 PM

Onboard video from today... Video is finished processing so the high quality version is available.

Just some casual driving... never got it over 5500.

AH370Z 09-28-2009 09:52 PM

Hi Steve, is there any sign of drone/hum in the cabin at any rpm when cruising?

m4a1mustang 09-28-2009 09:57 PM

It's more of just a very deep rumble than drone. On the freeway the exhaust doesn't get loud unless you are giving it throttle. At 65mph in 6th gear you're pulling about 2,500 RPM and it's very comfortable.

I'm going on a trip this weekend that includes about 4.5 hours of freeway driving each way, so I'll report back with how I think the exhaust does on long trips.

m4a1mustang 09-28-2009 10:02 PM

Big thanks to you, Tony! Awesome product, great quality. I should have listened to you the first time when you told me just to buy the 18" CBE. I just had to call back a few weeks later and add the HFCs that I'm not even going to use! The CBE alone is perfect!

DIGItonium 09-28-2009 10:32 PM

Thanks for the in-car vid, Steve! I notice you don't have the HFCs installed yet, right? From the vid, it seems like I can still hear the engine. My exhaust setup is loud enough I can't hear the engine as well. Plus, the road noise is subdued by the exhaust sound to the point I don't even notice it. I'll try to get around to shooting some in-car footage sometime.

Yea, the exhaust doesn't completely drown out the engine noise which is nice. It also helps that I have intakes which really let you hear the engine breathe.

I have decided I'm not going to install the HFCs, so if anyone wants them I have a brand new pair I am going to put up FS soon.

Hey, thank you man! Like Steve said, you make an amazing product of top-notch quality. I am IN LOVE with my car all over again that I just want to drive it non-stop. Revving it out is just so beautiful. I have received many compliments on the sound and looks. Thanks again!

Rob

I really will do my best to get videos up this weekend. Just been busy - work from 8a-5p and then class from 6p-9p. I don't get in the door until nearly 10 each night, so weekends are all I have.

Again, all I can say in the meantime is to brag on the perfect fitment, and both beautiful sound and looks that will turn heads. The car is a true pleasure to drive now, more so than ever.

I'll ask this here since I posted it in another F.I. thread, and it didn't get answered:

Why didn't Fast Intentions use tapered inlet mufflers? The big "issue" is they are square ended, so they stick out, why not use tapered & slightly shorter mufflers and get more ground clearance?

Maybe that's an idea for an option or later update?
