My GF and I just finished up the CBE install. Let me tell you -- I have two HFCs that will go unused!!!

The 18" res are PERFECT. We had and still have some fitment issues, but I'll deal with getting the tips lined up right sometime later. It's raining now and I just don't wanna. Sounds great, though. Just loud enough without being too much. It is about as loud as I expected it to be with the HFCs, which surprised me.

Startup and idle are actually louder than two Z's I know with HFCs and the AAM CBE. Very deep and rich! (For a V6, 5L V8 driving GF says).

I love it! Will try to get some videos later when we have nicer weather.

FuszNissan 09-26-2009 03:05 PM

So are you going with just the CBE and no HFC's?

Most likely. I might hold on to the HFCs for a bit to decide if I want to try them out or not. But most likely not. The 18" CBE alone is plenty loud enough.

I fired the car up and was like, "wait, did I install the HFCs and forget about it?"

thats great to hear ;)

<--- did not go with hfc's @ all

kdo2milger 09-26-2009 03:23 PM

fiddy bones for dem hfc's!

spearfish25 09-26-2009 03:58 PM

Done, I'm getting the 18" resos with SS mufflers. No HFCs.

KDO, the washer technique is to shift the tips toward the midline? Do you think this is something that could be fixed with just loosening the bolts throughout the CBE and readjusting them?

the washers adjusted my right tip lower so it would match the left tip in regards to height...i didnt notice any left or right movement...

some folks havent had to use the washers...you may be one of those few, luck of the draw i guess, although i have thought about re aligning the entire cbe to see if that fixes it...but havent had time to do it lately, and i want to use a lift if/when i get around to it...

Every time I drive down a street every head in the street turns. I may have to order some HFC depending on how much grief I get from the oinkers.

So totally happy with the setup though. Undoubtedly brings out the beast in the 370. I was just at a meet with about 150 modified cars and would have to say my 370Z had the best sounding exhaust hands down.

Hey James. Honestly the car is real loud but it does come down to how we drive it to honest. I have noticed i have adjusted my style just a bit when around my OWN house LOL. As for accelerating between 2-4k range, i have found it's loudest when in a higher gear, so when you need to put more load on the car (i think that makes sense).

Not sure what you can do with the Auto, you might need to drive it in Manual mode more and you might be able to adjust it a bit more, maybe.

This is the ENzo sound i heard on Youtube, that i thought was close,

Will start with the CBE. Just need to figure out jack stand points for the rear of the car...

Good to hear you getting yours in m4a, also hope your enjoying it once the rain goes away mate and you get some good weather to really enjoy it. Seeing that you have come from V8's you have gotta put in the HFC's mate, they have gotta add a nicer note and some HP as a bonus as well.

Hey spearfish. I'll try and get some more videos today, but that wont be the best quality as i dont have my JVC HD cam with me, so can only use the video mode of my point and shoot. It's biggest downside is the mic on it.

Both Aus370 and myself had to add a few washers to the right side as well. On Aus's car we used 3 washers and mine was 2 (Tony included them, nice touch mate). Once these were added, it seems to align them perfectly thats for sure.

dainedazz 09-26-2009 04:48 PM

MrBMW, that ENZO exhaust sounds so beasty! you saying that the FI came close to the ENZO sound note placed a smile to my face!

vids guys

m4a1mustang 09-26-2009 07:10 PM

I will tell you that my CBE doesn't sound anything like an Enzo. It does sound excellent in it's own right, though. Very deep and rich with a refined, exotic tone. It's perfect.

Vids... I'll try to get some when the weather clears up. I'm pretty ticked that I haven't been able to drive with the windows down at all today. Had Rain, rain, go away...

m4a1mustang 09-26-2009 07:21 PM

Oh yeah -- important: you can definitely feel the pickup in power across the board. It's very noticeable. From 2k all the way through the range there is a very noticeable gain.

Sonic370Z 09-26-2009 07:48 PM

Argh... I failed the wife test today with the HFC's hahaha. :p She thinks they're too loud and drone too much for her liking. I did take it out on the interstate today and personally didn't mind it much at all... yes you heard the exhaust, obviously; but it's not what I would consider "drone". You want drone, I used to have an RSX-S with a straight pipe, lol. I could easily carry conversation and listen to my music no prob.

Anyhow, the exhaust does set off two different car alarms in my neighborhood, ha ha ha (warning chirps as I drive past). It also set off the car next to me on campus on cold start. It's just SO deep and beautiful ha ha. I'm going to pick up some replacement OEM gaskets and put the factory ones back on and just run the CBE and OEM cats. *sigh*

If it was just MY decision, believe me, I'd continue to run the HFC's. But as any of you other married guys can guess my own happiness is, well not entirely my own. :p

The exhaust seems to go quiet around the 3k rpm range, maybe you should keep your revs there when your wife's around haha

It's not that far off really with the Test Pipes.

I would like to 2nd this. I have really notice that when just cruising around the volume does drop off a lot at 3k. Mind you guys both Sam and I have the Test Pipes, so it should be quieter with HFC's.

G37Sam 09-26-2009 08:19 PM

Oh I was talking about the HFC+CBE setup.. with test pipes it's a totally different story!! So Enzo-like haha

m4a1mustang 09-26-2009 08:20 PM

Man, so we're going to have two sets of HFCs up for grabs! One slightly used and one brand-spanken new!

Valentino 09-26-2009 08:26 PM

You guys are pushing me, to get one.

hmmm....

dainedazz 09-26-2009 08:55 PM

Do it do it do it do it do it!

shumby 09-26-2009 09:14 PM

if you are onnly looking at sound then no HFC. But hfc and tp give you the best gains.

m4a1mustang 09-27-2009 11:59 AM

I don't know how you guys with the 12" res or no res handle the noise. The 18" are loud!

DIGItonium 09-27-2009 12:15 PM

With the car idling cold in the morning, the garage door starts to rattle.

Can you make a video similar to mine so I can hear it? I try not to drive it too hard in the neighborhood, but it's a good gauge for casual driving.

MrBMW 09-27-2009 04:54 PM

Just uploading a few Videos now of Cold Start, On Ramp to Highway, Underground Car Park with some 60km driving etc.. Once they are uploaded will add them.

Hey m4a' didnt you have some insanely loud exhaust on your Stang previously (could be getting mixed up with someone else LOL). If so i though this wouldve been fine. There are a few V8's around me, plus Rotarys fo that matter that are still a bit louder than mine with the RTP's.

LOL, to many nightclubs and concerts as younger guy, could explain why it's no so made for me hehehe. Yes the RTP's are still Extremely loud and louder than i first thought. Although it is growing on me more and more that i drive it.
