Oh definitley -- foam filters offer terrible filtration and if they begin to degrade, you can draw foam particles into the motor

They do offer good flow, however, so for a track only car they might be worthwhile.

Also, interestingly enough, the K&N media offers superior filtration even to the excellent AEM dryflow filters -- at least until they are both PACKED with dirt. Then the AEM flows better -- solution: clean the K&N.

For a cone filter I'd only use K&N or the AEM dryflows, the latter winning out only because they're so easy to clean and no concern regarding overoiling/dirtying MAF sensors.

That said, if the sensor does get gunked: Amazon.com: CRC 05110 Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner - 11 Wt Oz.:…

Actually, Apexi makes the best filter. Here is a comparison:

Only had my K&N's in for about a week, no problems so far. I don't know if it's just in my head or if I actually got gains, but it feels like I have slightly better throttle response and power. I think the engine sound/exhaust sound is a bit louder too (which I like). The stock filters were fairly dirty anyways, so I'm sure the engine is breathing better in any event.
