The metal in the header is much tougher then the metal in the 02 sensor. I did stripped one once and just used a tap with the correct pitch thread

The metal in the header is much tougher then the metal in the 02 sensor. I did stripped one once and just used a tap with the correct pitch thread to clean out the remnants of the sensor body. The threads in the exhaust manifold were fine. Used lots of cutting oil and took my time. I threaded the tap in a bit then backed it out and repeated that process till I had it cleaned out.
