HELP! Cannot remove a/f sensor
 

Had my test pipes installed a week ago. In the process the passenger a/f sensor was bumped and stopped working. I have the sensor but we cannot get the old one out. It took half a turn then froze. What are the odds of stripping out the threads in the header? Common on this car or should I just keep wrenching??

I'm scared because it looks like tapping the threads would be a nightmare

Have you tried some liquid wrench or other penetrating oil? Let it soak in and see if it helps :ugh2:

If that still doesn't help you don't have much options But to go for it and prepare to have it down till you get it repaired. :(

I hate to deal with exhaust bolts or sensor for this reason, sometimes they don't come out like they're supposed to, and make it harder than it needs to be.

Yeah we tried all the tricks, it's just in a tough spot and not a ton of leverage.

The car runs fine, the computer corrects the a/f on its own but the engine light bugs the hell out of me. We opted not to try and remove it right now. Bringing it to dealer on Monday and seeing what their labor cost will be. If it's too much I'll bring it back to the shop that did the test pipes and see what they'll do it for. Worst case, strip the threads, re-tap and install new sensor. Drink a beer.

Kinda shitty tho, can't do Uprev until i fix it. :(

Sounds like you need a cutting torch. Have to heat the bung up cherry red, then try to wrench the sensor out.

The metal in the header is much tougher then the metal in the 02 sensor. I did stripped one once and just used a tap with the correct pitch thread to clean out the remnants of the sensor body. The threads in the exhaust manifold were fine. Used lots of cutting oil and took my time. I threaded the tap in a bit then backed it out and repeated that process till I had it cleaned out.

I'm handing it off to the dealer. They can screw it up and fix it for me. I have the part so they'll just charge me an hour of labor regardless.

i doubt a dealer will touch a car with test pipes.

I have an extra sensor with plug in perfect shape if you need it.

Dealer up here isn't smart enough to know what test pipes look like, and emission laws are pretty loose so nobody seems to care. And if they do, it will just go back to the other shop.

And thanks TopgunZ but I do have a be sensor ready to go.

I wouldn't trust a shop that doesn't know what test pipes look like to do exhaust related work on my car but that's just me. That said, I got a new transmission under warranty with full bolt on and a tune. So I doubt it matters to them.

I just need a sensor replaced lol. Hell if I'm lucky maybe it'll be covered under warranty still
