Btw how is your car coming along? Built motor coming soon and more boost?

Ah that dude. He went awol from the forum after he started building that motor.

Car is running great. Haven't got the itch for more power since the G is severely hampered in tire size getting that power to the ground.

He had some health issues and setting up his shop takes time and money. So far so good on the communication. I actually trailered the car up there and met him and he is a really honest guy. I will let him chime in to fill in the details of his car but I can say its finished with the gtr cams and others goodies it will be one of the highest hp z's on the planet.. Did I mention he has a closed deck block too?

Man, that really sucks. Good luck with the new motor.

And good lord, that thing was making some major power before it let go. What's the goal now that you're going to a closed deck block? Do you have to address the cooling system again now that the water jacket is filled in?

The close deck run the same temp if not a little cooler during pulls. The reasons for this is the inserts connect the cylinders walls to the outside of the block transferring the heat to the outside of the block. The inserts slow the coolant flow down a bit to obsorb more heat

Chuck are you still on that gtm kit? What did you ever do with those exhaust manifolds? Last I remember you were trying to find replacements?

Mine are fine, I was just looking to get a set to have in reserve if/when they ever **** the bed. The new gtm/gamma claims they can get me a set whenever I need, but I doubt it. Gamma is just the same pile of **** in a new wrapper.

I actually managed to get a new set from sam about almost a year ago but let them go when I sold my gtm kit.. Excited to see the upcoming z since it should be on the same platform as the 2017 Q60... Imagine a car already fast is so much easier making it FASTER....!!!! Speaking of that I think Nissan should release the new z right as toyo come out with the new supra!!!

The closed deck, is that basically a block guard inserted in the block? Also what do you think caused the failure? One last thing, are you using OEM main bolts or do you have ARP mains?

I was running oem mains and L19 head studs. I honestly think a combination of the engine build but mainly tune is what did it. The cylinder didn't crack but basically melted due to the tune. Found out later my bore was not correct to match my pistons causing piston slap.. 96mm from cp calls for 3.78 bore diameter (clearance 0.0035), mine was 3.5 Also my L19's were only torqued to 85.. He also fried my ecu and I was missing a motor mount bolt on the passenger side when the car came back.
This time around I am going with arp mains and I'm very confident in bryan building my motor this time around.. He's a really dedicated enthusiast.

Were the piston skirts damaged? What was the measurements of the pistons? How much clearance did you have. Sometimes with tight clearances it can cause the rings to break. Any rings in pieces?
