Awwww shiiiiiiiit, Spohn getting serious!

KaienZ34 04-19-2013 01:41 PM

Ok, now who is buying me a kit? :icon17:

Can't take it no more. Deal of a lifetime. The more I drive my car the slower it seems.:icon17: Maybe it's the cheese burgers. I always knew at heart FI is the only way to go.

Then a kit that is offered by GTM, who is truely the inovator of this of this car. What else is there to say?

At least I know it won't be hard to sell my headers. Hint. Might have to have a bidding war on them.

SPOHN 04-19-2013 02:04 PM

Mike or Sam. Is there any difference at all in the two wastegates?

The love for my headers had me spending a few thousand more just so I can keep them. Nothing like the sound of a full open exhaust with a good set of headers. I do have a feeling your headers will sell for a good bit of coin.I'm interested to see everyone's results when these start shipping. I think the quality of this kit is underestimated. I believe sound engineering, parts selection, parts and design sharing, and building everything in house really helped keep prices down. I just don't see GTM sacrificing quality to push price and quantity.

The turbos are a good bit of the savings. There are so many out there. Mitsu has there hands all in the commercial side of FI. So production cost is down along with all the R&D that went into it. Same for GTM I'm sure. Then the competitive side is there also. GTM is business at it's best. The cost savings are spread out on this kit. The intercooler is another.

Need to determine if I want 16 or 18G? Probably 18G. Definitly EWG (open dumb baby). I used to scare the hell out of everyone when I had them on my 350Z.

Hell yes! I vote 18G's. They should spool up plenty fast. I wonder if the superchargers will add volume to mine... Eh, guess that's a bit off topic. What's the world coming to? Track Z's adding FI, this will be a real test of the chassis.

Dzel 04-19-2013 02:35 PM

Going with 18g's myself a buddy of mine had an Srt4 with upgraded everything but on his exhaust he left it stock and ran an electrical dump that he could open or close at the push of a button. I would like to do something like that also

Sh0velMan 04-19-2013 02:38 PM

Yeah for a track guy, I'd totally do open dumps off the EWG's... So awesome.

Probably run some little pipes out to the sides of the car though so it isn't spitting fire into my underbody lol!

Dzel 04-19-2013 02:53 PM

Is not fire is awesomeness!

SPOHN 04-19-2013 03:08 PM

This is fun. Looking at one step colder plugs now.

brucelidat 04-19-2013 07:12 PM

So how much for the extra mods that are recommended to run a 7at reliably? Is there a 7at package?

Yup I'm going with the 18g internals and HKS plugs. The 18s will breath better and give you room to grow if more power is needed later.

brucelidat 04-19-2013 07:59 PM

so I read that the minimum requirement would be a trans cooler for an auto, but what would be the RECOMMENDED supporting mods, not the minimum?

SS_Firehawk 04-19-2013 08:01 PM

trans cooler and valve body upgrade

brucelidat 04-19-2013 08:05 PM

Sorry, I don't know my mechanical stuff so much. Do you have a link to the valve body upgrade?

brucelidat 04-19-2013 08:24 PM

NM, found it. So valve body upgrade, trans cooler, anything else?

KaienZ34 04-19-2013 09:05 PM

Tune the trans/increase the line pressure with UpRev.

DEpointfive0 04-19-2013 09:06 PM

Better flex plate, GTM is working on that one too

jpritche 04-20-2013 06:20 AM

Manual tranny swap /thread. :icon17:

Dzel 04-20-2013 07:39 AM

Or a gearbox upgrade!

SPOHN 04-20-2013 07:45 AM

I'm super siked about this kit. Hope it can be released by June

Dzel 04-20-2013 08:41 AM

I think June will be a safe bet.

brucelidat 04-20-2013 01:17 PM

I noticed that this kit doesn't have injectors listed in the parts like their other turbo kits do. Does this kit not cone with injectors?

Only the tuner kits don't come with fuel inj.

NitrousZ34 04-20-2013 01:48 PM

I have a couple questions. I was reading up to page maybe 15 and it said you can change the 16,18,20g turbos to the GTM Garret turbos that come in the stage 1-4 kits? They bolt right up and everything?
Would you be able to change the dual intercoolers to your large, single one that you offer for the Garret TT kits?
How much power on a completely built motor will this kit be able to put out? Are we talking 700RWHP max?
This might seem kind of ignorant but why would anyone buy the Garret kit if they can just buy this kit and switch out the turbos and save some money over buying the Garrett kit?

Dzel 04-20-2013 01:50 PM

I believe these intercoolers are more efficient.

I would have to agree. Instead of each turbo sharing a single inner cooler now each turbo has it's own inner cooler. Plus it also appears to allow more air to flow into the radiator due to the gap in between the two. Just a guess but seems right.:tiphat:

The other intercooler is 3.5" thick, 13x24" and rated at 1000 bhp, I believe these are 3", 12x12 x2 and rated at 900hp. To keep the crash bar, they had to use two smaller ones to push these farther in and not get in the way of the radiator support beam (whatever it's called). I think it's a worthwhile sacrifice to keep the crash beam with the two smaller ones than the single large intercooler.

Dzel 04-20-2013 02:13 PM

It also gives you that sleeper look until your turbo spools or the blow off valve goes off. That's when people near by are gonna be like WTF was that! Lol

NitrousZ34 04-20-2013 02:29 PM

I would rather have the larger single IC for what my needs and wants will be in the future. Hopefully GTM can chime in and answer my questions

These intercoolers are rated to meet the demands of the 20g turbos with a built motor. You must have some big plans. If that's the case, why not just get the Garret based kit? Building the motor to support that kind of power really takes the cost difference out of the equation.

I was thinking the same thing until I got the quote for $34k to get to just 800hp. I decided to take the $20k+ I'm going to save and use it for a down payment on a GTR. Seemed to make more sense to me.:tiphat:

SPOHN 04-20-2013 02:53 PM

I believe these intercoolers are rated for 900hp.

IMO anything over 500-550whp is useless on the street.

I wouldn't be able to afford the Garret kit right now and if everything can be switched out to the Garret kit, then it makes sense to do so if its cheaper. I could have fun with this kit with a stock block, and when I'm ready to build, go ahead and swap stuff out to make some big power.

Tower how in the hell does it cost $34k to build a motor lol. Please tell me if I'm wrong or something isn't right here... But my friend just built his VQ35HR for about $6k. Carillo rods, Carillo Pistons, Jwt cams, full valvetrain (not sure exactly what brand) ARP bolts, plus other little things and it literally came out to be $6K. The 35HR isn't that much different than the 37vhr. Say a motor build costs around $10k, paired with a $9k turbo kit that can handle 800rwhp... I'm good with that

NitrousZ34 04-20-2013 03:05 PM

My last Z was like a month away from having a 4.2L stroker motor installed. I have high expectations to make some serious power out of this Z now. Thats why I'm asking all these questions to see what the full potential of this kit can be.

Fixed!!!:icon23:

Dzel 04-20-2013 03:23 PM

Yes I'm building my car for track use only after I do a little damage to the stock block at 10 psi for a year or so. 700 is my magic number and this can be achieved with GTM's stroker kit some bottom end work and some MOAR boost!

I think he was referring to a hole package. Built motor, TT kit itself, and all the goodies that go with making a 800 HP car. Full out return fuel system, built heads, and if he went with a full stand alone ECU. That's easy territory.

Also I like the fact that this MHI kit with 18G turbos on a built motor will put down some serious numbers. I don't think you would have to upgrade to Garret turbos. Maybe just rebuild the ones you have while your there. You'd be more than happy enough.
