new to the Forum. Just want to let everyone know I have the Stillen SC kit since May.
But have only driven the Z one week. Grounded the rest of the time.
After 1 new transmission (not at my cost), Rev 6 on the tune program, new Y intakes with new baffles welded into it to straighten out the air to the MAF's, new bypass orifice back to the compressor, the car still jerks around at low speed and the new tranny shifts into failsafe. Just frustrating. All work was done through the Dealer which honors the warranty. On a first name basis now with the Stillen folks and the car is being checked thoroughly at at Uprev in Austin. So, the message is not all success stories out there. Luck of the draw? Who knows? But maybe later I can post the details if anyone is interested. The most embarrasing thing of all this is that the Loaner car I have been driving is a Nissan Cube. Had it so long I have put over 4K on it, myself.
I used to the aggressor on the highway when the Z was new. But now, I have been ran over, flipped off, laughed at and just plain outrun on the road. Man. So, if your car is working good right now, remember, there is always someone else out there that is not. So..I will try to look back at this string and catch up some.

Later...Buzz.

My condolences on the Cube.

WTF Cube is awesome. Just wear spongebob outfit and you're set.

Yeah, good ole spongebob...Ha! perfect. Ya know...Halloween is coming up...odds are I could still have the cube then.............* I think I just ruined my what positive outlook I had.
Nah. We will understand and fix this. I think it will be of great value to let others know, exactly what that is. Ordering a new "blowoff" valve which is not fixed such as Nissans, one that can be adjusted. MAF's are working, but word from Uprev is that some turbulence is still showing up at the intakes. Apparently the air flow sensors are incredibly sensitive and it looks that a common sensor can be seeing something completely different for each car. Hmmmm.
It was a taste of bliss in the early days the kit ran smoothly. Ran like a scalded dog up to San Antonio. Up the hills and down with ease. Smooth. Which is confusing as to how the "trouble" exactly started and to understand. Leaving one lonely stop sign and then a complete failure to shift from 3rd into 4th. Only solution was to pull over and restart the car clearing any erroneous signals. Then a day later at night on cruise control at 65 mph the Z went into "failsafe" mode on its own. Strange thing to be tooling along comfortably and then coasting to a stop with "##$$%%???".

What was the cause of the new transmission? Was this something caused by the SC or just something that broke coincidentally?

Buzzlitonian 09-20-2010 07:36 PM

When the car was acting up we could tell there was extra heat buildup in the engine compartment. A smell of transmission fluid with the rpm cycling wildly way above idle from 1000 to 1400 rpm, until the car was turned off.
To get back to home or the dealership, I had to use Manual up to 5th gear. Any higher, the car would failsafe. So, basically a call was made that the clutch was slipping and a module inside (poor design I think) called the TCM was shot. So, have to replace the whole thing. First step in the troubleshooting process, I guess. So, someone at Nissan made the call and swapped it out.

Buzzlitonian 09-20-2010 07:39 PM

So, it was viewed that the ECU Program was causing a communication problem with the Transmission. The Z gave the apperance it did not know what gear it was in over 4000 rpm and certaintly not where it was in the shifting range when decelerating to turn a corner. Strange.

i think you just motivated me to remove the kit from my car and return it.

Is it time to give up?

Osiris 09-20-2010 08:27 PM

i've haven't received any indication from them that there is a solution because honestly, i don't think they know what is wrong.

weiboy718 09-20-2010 08:33 PM

weird! i know at least 2 people with the R6 tune and 7AT is running fine now!

Osiris 09-20-2010 08:39 PM

i'll check with the dealership tomorrow to see if they've received a new tune.

Buzzlitonian 09-20-2010 08:43 PM

So, all involved whole heartedly believe it is all programming at fault here and not the machine. Just a long process to eliminate what works and what does not. I truly think that my Z is forwarding through on the last of the unkowns with the SC kit. I have been told the other Z's that have it are doing ok, even after the last modifications I spoke about in my first post. If Osiris you could just hang on another few weeks, the groundwork should be fully laid out and complete. My motivation is the remembering how it drove in the first day and there will be many more like it afterwards.

i'm sure they're gonna take care of you very soon! i got my car back since saturday and it's running very good now. i'm guessing all they need to do is get some datalogging from your dealer and see if it's pulling timing up high and adjust from there.

Buzzlitonian 09-20-2010 08:50 PM

I am also in a hard decision to just call everyone and pull the plug on the whole thing, but to remove the kit from the car is more difficult to remove than going in. Some parts of the body of the car were modified, cut into, adusted, etc and to restore to original would cause more effort to return like new. Just a sorry spot to be in, right now.

Buzzlitonian 09-20-2010 08:53 PM

The interesting fact is the Uprev guys in Austin wrote the programs for the Supercharger. So, Stillen is working on a car with these exact same troubles in CA and the Austin guys are working from this end. Collaborative effort here to squash this once and for all. In a weird way, lucky that everyone is communicating on this now and we arent kind of doing this one at a time, reinventing the wheel for each Z that comes in.

Osiris 09-20-2010 08:55 PM

you surely have more patience than I. I can't believe you've been waiting since May...and i thought 3 months was a long time to wait.

I know this will stir the pot. but it would be interesting to see if Sam could tune the stillen kit.

At this point, i don't care who tunes it, i just want it back.

roplusbee 09-21-2010 07:51 AM

And the plot thickens...............

weiboy718 09-21-2010 08:35 AM

Shumby is :stirthepot: the pot and he should :gtfo2:

Hahahahaha! I'm sure any good tuner can tune our Stillen kit. It's just that whoever gets a custom will have no warranty on the complete kit.

shumby 09-21-2010 09:43 AM

better to have a workign kit without warrenty then a kit that don't work.

Sibze 09-21-2010 09:48 AM

shumby - your asking for it!!! lol

But they are still warrantied, even if they dont work. LOL.

So get that 8 psi wheel already so we can see what the kit can do.

Since they both use the UpRev for engine management, he'd most likely be able to.

I just loaded it a couple of hours ago and haven't had a chance to open it up yet. It did clear my previous tune while it was in limp mode though. Another misfire code I'm sure......

This is the R7 tune. Is anyone else running this yet?

Weiboy is running the r6 tune i think. He just got back from stillen where they tuned his car. I wonder whats the difference between the r6 and r7 and the other five tunes that stillen has given me.
