There are no problems with Stillen Supercharger kits. Would I be standing outside here today if Stillen kits were failing all over Baghdad?

LiquidZ 08-20-2010 02:27 PM

^hahaha

RCZ 08-20-2010 02:29 PM

funny

Guys, my kit was NOT installed at HP Logic, it was only tuned there.

sgthanzo 08-20-2010 02:47 PM

DE_DUST -- Thanks for starting out an Install Performance Inventory topic. I think this will allow those who are heavily contemplating on splurging for the kit, an idea of what's in front of them should they opt for a Stillen SC today.

Based from what i can deduce (up to G2K's report) and out of the 10 owners who'd stepped forward, the break/fail ratio is at around 60%. Maybe there's a ton more very satisfied SC kit owners out there. They need to step forward so we can have a bigger sampling.

At this ratio, though, a 40% success rate ain't too impressive at all. It's quite scary, even! I hope we'll see a much better success-to-failure ratio as Stillen is able to address those who have issues; and apply the fix(es) to future shipments.

:)

RCZ - does not have any issues at all; his kit was installed and tune by HPLogic and using the old pulley, which supposedly was hitting higher than 8 psi
Weiboy - car is running great after getting new tune and pulley; however, dyno still pending and do not know his car's hp/trq numbers
wifedrivenz - initially had a leak but was fixed with stillen's help; dyno still pending and do not know his car's hp/trq; car is running great but seem rich
Tomnavone - issues w/ tune and car was suggest not to be driven; waiting for stillen to fix tune
LateralG'z - car is running great (installed and tuned by FSP) but running lower than expected hp/tq so they are trying to get old pulley just like RCZ's
G37mobbin - 2 months down in the garage and counting
Osiris - 2 months down in the garage this saturday
Phimosis - car is at stillen and uprev is fixing stillen's tune
willtangclan - kit appears to be running ok; had issues where every 1000km it throws a misfire or something code and only allows car to rev a 1K

i did not go all the way back pass 15 pages but i hope there are more of the customers who suposedly has no issues with the kit to post their experience in the forums so ppl start feeling better on buying this kit...

Great summary!
I have a few comments about others cars:

RCZ: he's got the small pulley and a custom tune that is not too rich or too much ignition retard. He's getting exactly what Stillen advertised in their press release, with a few ponies extra for the headers and cats. BTW, how many psi of boost do you get?

Weiboy: Did he get the small pulley? I know they gave him the new tune and it solved the driveability problems, but didn't know he's got the small pulley. If he does, let's see the dyno!

WifedrivenZ: Says it smells rich. Well, the too rich a/f ratio is part of what is killing power. It can also kill your catalyitic convertors and won't pass CARB. He's happy with the tune, but when I had the same tune, but I was unhappy with it because the midrange is a lot weaker than what is advertised in Stillen's press release and I wanted to get what I had paid for.

Tomnavone: Has the same too rich tune with the big pulley, if I'm not mistaken. I didn't want to get into what was said between him and Stillen, but I think there may be a little confusion. If they give you a new tune, it will be leaner and cleaner, with better power delivery, but that will actually run hotter and is less safe, rather than more safe than what you have now. I know you asked, "can this tune damage my engine?" and their answer was "possibly", but the better question is "which is more likley to damage my engine, this tune or the new one you're going to send me?" Even with the "perfect" tune, you're still at risk of damaging your engine when you put 8 psi of boost into an 11:1 compression engine. It's like asking, "Which steroids are safer for me to take, and what is the max dose I can take before it kills me?"

LateralG: Privately tuned for max power, but with big pulley. There's just no way to get the numbers that Stillen's "7.9 psi press release" car has unless you get the small pulley. How much boost does the small pulley really make?

G37mobbin/osiris: I just cry silently when I think about them.

Me: My car was at Stillen for 3 weeks initially, but when I got it back, it had trouble starting, ran too rich, would bog with too much throttle and the midrange was off of Stillen's press release numbers by more than 50 lb/ft of torque. I drove it for a few weeks, but put maybe 200 miles on it because it was no longer fun to drive like my Z with bolt ons. It's been back at Stillen for 4 more weeks. The tuners from uprev have been hammering out the bugs over the last 4 days. Kyle was supposed to have a meeting with them last night to get the scoop, but that didn't happen, so it looks like I'll be rolling into next week (8 weeks total) without my Z.

Willtangclan: Nooo! I would be scared. What the heck is causing the code? is it detonating?

Anyways, I'll be back with more info on my car next week...... It better be next week! lol.

LiquidZ 08-20-2010 02:58 PM

Sounds like Stillen needed more training with UpRev...

I appreciate the concern, but apparently i'm waiting on your car to be fixed. They keep telling me they're working out the bugs on yours in order to supply a fix for mine.

So if you say yours is gonna be fixed next week, i guess that's good news for me.

Zsteve 08-20-2010 04:58 PM

so is ther 2 problems with the Stillen kit? one being the pulley size and one being the tune or what?

Q8y_drifter 08-20-2010 05:03 PM

I believe so ^^

After the issue was discovered, a interim tune & pulley were released. This provided a more conservative tune; however, this interim tune still did not work as planned. So we are waiting on the final fix to hopefully tune with the original pulley and get expected power output. Only time will tell.

LateralG'z 08-20-2010 05:16 PM

Hey Guys,

I guess I owe you an update. So far I have had the car all week and I am loving it. We did not make the power we wanted so I am trying to get the older pulley. The car definitely rips I am just wanting a little more uumph in the torque area. Chris has done a great job with the car and has everything run smoothing including the DD aspect. We have a knock sensor wired in and I have been monitoring the car all week and everything seems to safe and since I only drive WO I am feeling good about the tune. I will have more of an update when Stillen get back to us about the older pulley. If you guys want the dyno results you can bug Chris, I got them and sent them to him. I was not going to post em till I am happy with the power results I want. I want 350 or + RWTQ and only I care about 450 + RWHP. So far so good. I keep hammer it to see if anything will happen and everything seems to good so far

:)

I almost pulled the trigger on the Nissan Titan SC back before I traded her in for the 370Z. However, the Titan has similar problems with the Stillen SC....

I'm anxious to do forced induction on the Z but the SC doesn't look very promising....

I hope we can get some more positive reviews in here.

I made 411WHP and 303TQ at Stillens facility. Should be making more now with their new tune. I do have the updated larger pulley. I made 8.3psi at 7057 rpm on 2nd gear. I'll take a picture of that. My hks records the highest level activities.

Big J 08-20-2010 07:34 PM

Ouch, that's some low torque!

weiboy718 08-20-2010 09:37 PM

here's the picture of my boost record with the larger pulley. i bet you i can make 8.5psi of boost if i redline it. look at the boost and the rpm there's a record on the bottom.

weiboy718 08-21-2010 01:43 AM

you guys need better pic's of the camp2? that was from my weak cell phone lol

Jamaica 08-21-2010 01:57 AM

Ya that would help a lot. I was thinking about getting it. My buddy parted up his car and gave me his magden. I love it. I dont believe its better then camp2 but I just wanna make sure.

i would choose the Magden over the HKS just cuz their graphics are so much nicer. the last time i checked Magden's site they're no longer making these and i don't think you can buy additional sensors like boost, fuel pressure, oil temp, oil pressure, egt and more. you guys should check out the Blitz.
http://www.blitzpowerusa.com/product...s/r-vitds.html

i would've bought this unit over the HKS CAMP 2 but i'm not sure if it'll support our N/A cars or not cuz the only optional sensors you can buy is the oil temp and oil pressure. it has boost built into the system already so that means it's pretty much controlled by the ECU and won't work for us N/A ECU. i'm not too sure and been wanting to give Blitz a buzz about it lol. maybe someone here can do that haha.

The link mentions an optional pressure sensor kit, so I'm sure you can configure a pressure input for boost.

yeah, i'm sure you can hook up your vacumme line to that but it won't be under boost on the display.

Do you have a thread on your campII, like with pics and install?

i don't have a thread on the install. it's pretty easy and simple to install except for the sensors.

it looks way better then blitz and hks. I dont have it installed but when it was in my buddys car it looked amazing. I am going to use it in my car when the time comes. Magden is creating a new product......will be at sema.

I am currently at the shop watching my gauge get put in. Once that is done Dyno time. Good or bad I will post the results.

Looks are subjective. Some of the gauges magden has are nice, but overall i like the camp2 system better, alot of technical data. Some really neat features not to mention if you go standalone and have it hooked up with fcon.
