STILLEN 370Z Supercharger System - Announcement!!!

STILLEN VQ37 Supercharger System - 370Z / G37

500+ HP 7.9 psi on 91 octane fuel

After more than a year of development and testing, we are proud to announce the release of the STILLEN supercharger for the VQ37 engine. As with all R&D at STILLEN, we assessed our ultimate goals and priorities during the development phase as we planned this supercharger kit. Some of the most important factors to the development team were hood clearance, expanding power later on, CARB legality, air to water intercooler, reliability, and obviously performance. We feel that we have met or exceeded each of our goals.

When looking at different forms of forced induction the engineering team and Steve Millen decided that the best choice would be the Vortech centrifugal supercharger. We have partnered with Vortech in the past on vehicles like the Nissan Maxima and Pathfinder, Mercedes CLK430 and others. One of the great things about the Vortech supercharger is the ease of installation as well as the ability to easily add more boost and increase power. The engineers at STILLEN also wanted a supercharger system that offered little to no maintenance needs so the ultimate decision was made for the V-3 series supercharger.

The Vortech V-3 series supercharger uses a self-contained lubrication system. That means no need for running additional lines from the oil pan or separate coolers. Simply bolt on the blower and you’re good to go. Oil changes are very easy with the drain tube located on the bottom of the blower and the fill tube located on top. Changing the oil in the supercharger itself is a quick ten minute job.

One of the most important aspects of supercharging is also cooling. Superchargers build a lot of heat during the compression process so the air needs to be cooled back down before entering the engine for maximum performance. To do this we have incorporated a cast aluminum intake manifold which houses an air-to-water intercooler. During our testing we saw temperature drops of over 100 degrees of heat after the intercooler immediately before the air enters the engine. Air-to-water intercoolers have been proven to be the most efficient intercoolers available. The intercooler system uses its own separate coolant path that does not get routed in with the engine coolant. An added benefit to the air-to-water intercooler design is that the heat exchanger (mounted in front of the radiator to cool the coolant) is very thin. The Nissan 370Z has already shown that these engines have an issue with overheating. To reduce the risk of overheating we have strategically placed the heat exchanger and intakes to ensure that we have sufficient air flow to all of the vital components and additional coolers without impeding airflow to the radiator.

Airflow was another major consideration for the supercharger system. Because even stock 370Z's are seeing increased oil temperatures in just a few laps around a race course, we wanted to make sure that the heat exchanger and intakes did not interfere with our other coolers. We are very excited to confirm that the STILLEN race oil cooler, automatic transmission cooler, and power steering cooler all fit perfectly together. To bring the air into the intake path we have chosen to go with a Y-pipe designed cast aluminum intake tube that relocate the MAF sensors, retaining a “draw through” configuration. This means that the MAF sensor are located in front of the forced induction device to get an accurate reading of air volume. We chose to do this because this is what NISSAN recommends. During our many years of building superchargers for NISSAN vehicles as well as our great working relationship with NISSAN we have learned that the MAF sensor that NISSAN uses is not designed to be “blown through”, or post forced induction. Example of this are the two NISSAN vehicles that use forced induction from the factory. The NISSAN GT-R and the 300ZX. Both cars use a draw through MAF sensor setup.

At the end of the day, the most important aspect of any forced induction system is “Performance.” Performance is more than dyno numbers or horsepower claims. Performance means, how does it “perform” at a race track? How does it “perform” in daily driving conditions? These questions had to be answered during our testing so we went to El Toro air force base with our auto gearbox Infiniti G37. This car was equipped with our race oil cooler and auto trans cooler. This days testing consisted of multiple 0-140mph runs.. Hard driving on a very tight course with excessive revving and redlining. Then we parked the car for five minutes to let everything heatsoak and get really warm then immediately ran another series of 0-140 mph runs. We could not be happier with the way the car was able to handle these extreme tests. During those tests we had numerous data logging devices inside the car keeping track of a number of different data points.

Parts included in the kit:

• Vortech V-3 Series Compressor w/Pre-Assembled Laser-Cut Billet Aluminum Mounting Assembly
• (6) 600CC Fuel Injectors
• ECU Based Tuning Device
• High Output Fuel Pump
• Air-to-Water Intercooler System (Intercooler, Heat Exchanger, Pump, Hoses, Mounting Brackets)
• Polished Aluminum Intake Charge Pipe
• Cast Aluminum Intake Manifold
• Cold Air Intake Y-Pipe w/Draw Through MAF Sensor Bosses (as recommended by NISSAN)
• Genuine K&N Intake Filters

Recommended installation time of 10-12 hours

Customers will be mailed the tuning device first with detailed instructions on how to prepare the car for the supercharger. By pulling your tune ahead of time we are able to prepare your tune so that you're ready when the supercharger ships.

STILLEN is proud to announce that the 370Z/G37 Supercharger System has gone through all of the testing, and has been approved by C.A.R.B. and is now certified as 50-state smog/emissions legal!

Here's the info from the press release:

http://blog.stillen.com/wp-content/g...arger_lead.png
http://blog.stillen.com/wp-content/g...ger_lead_1.jpg

For over 25 years STILLEN has been recognized as a leader in Nissan/Infiniti tuning. With a history of setting “first time” milestones in the aftermarket for these great vehicles, STILLEN has established themselves as the company to follow when it comes to Nissan and Infiniti product development. STILLEN was the first company to develop the HICAS eliminator system for the 300ZX Z32 platform. When the Z33 350Z was introduced, STILLEN was once again the leader with the first forced induction solution, as well as the first to offer CARB legality, and AGAIN the first with a 3-year/36,000 mile engine warranty.
Well, STILLEN has done it again as Team STILLEN is proud to announce the CARB approval of the Nissan 370Z (Z34) G37 Supercharger Kit.

STILLEN has not only been the first company to achieve CARB legality of a forced induction solution on the VQ37, we have also been the first company to achieve such an accomplishment while tuning through Nissan’s sophisticated ECU with larger injectors. This is a major accomplishment for Team STILLEN and one that will join the many other first time landmarks STILLEN has achieved in the Nissan/Infiniti tuning world.

CARB (California Air Resources Board) is the division of the California state government that controls all aspects of air quality and standards. With standards getting stricter it is getting more and more difficult to achieve CARB legality. CARB is recognized as the toughest emissions control in the country and is therefore recognized in all 50 states as an emissions standard for all performance parts. If a performance part achieves CARB legality, it is recognized as 50-state legal.

The power the STILLEN Supercharger system delivers is dramatic, taking the factory 3.7L V6 from 332hp to over 500hp! The system is designed to work with both automatic and 6-speed vehicles, including convertible and AWD models.

The STILLEN VQ37 Supercharger features a new cast aluminum intake manifold engineered specifically for this kit, complete air-to-water intercooler system, and boost is derived from a Vortech V-3 Supercharger unit. The V-3 features a quiet V-belt design, and a self-contained oiling system for easy maintenance.

In the past year STILLEN has shipped supercharger systems around the world. Fantastic reviews and reports are coming in from:
  • Australia
  • New Zealand
  • Singapore
  • Russia
  • Thailand
  • Korea
  • Canada
  • Switzerland
  • Taiwan
  • France
  • United Arab Emirates
  • China
  • Hong Kong
  • United Kingdom

Not to mention all of the kits that have been installed with great success across the United States at Nissan/Infiniti dealerships and performance shops. This is a bolt-on system, capable of being installed by any qualified ASE-certified automotive performance shop, or at hundreds of Nissan and Infiniti dealerships across the country, or right here at STILLEN at our in-house install facility.

Once again, STILLEN has successfully accomplished all of its goals with another great forced induction solution for the Nissan/Infiniti vehicles.

Omfg, GTM who?

G Fo12ce 03-12-2010 12:47 PM

Looks good all around including the price!

Red370 03-12-2010 12:50 PM

Thats an amazing price, especially considering the custom intake manifold, the power numbers are amazing, and only at 7.9 psi, imagine the stage 3 kit at 10psi? 500+whp easy. Hey Kyle, did you guys take any vids of Steve getting it sideways? i wanna see that power in action!

Kyle@STILLEN 03-12-2010 12:51 PM

Please ignore those six silver wires (three on each side) that you see in the photos. We've been trying to work around R&D without slowing them down any and those wires are for their datalogging. They actually drilled into each exhaust port on the manifolds and inserted EGT probes so they could monitor exhaust gas temperatures of each cylinder. That way they know that each cylinder is working efficiently and safely. If one cylinder is a little hot they know that, that particular cylinder might be running a bit lean so they can adjust that injector accordingly. This way we're not just relying on the O2 sensor at the back of the manifold by the collector, we know exactly what each cylinder is doing individually.

Also, just so you guys know, the silicone couplers will be black in production. Those blue ones were simply for prototyping but we're expecting the black production pieces to arrive any day now.

m4a1mustang 03-12-2010 12:52 PM

Oh hell yeah!

Chriz 03-12-2010 12:52 PM

 Looks amazing! And at only 7.9 psi!

370Ztune 03-12-2010 12:53 PM

Just got off the phone with Stillen regarding the new release! We're supporting them with the intro pricing and deposit for these kits here!:

Mmmmm...

phelan 03-12-2010 12:54 PM

Wow that looks really good, I like it. I'm pretty certain I'm going SC in the future...remains to be seen how far out in the future though as my cash is tied up in a long-term build...bah, lol.

Noob question and I may have missed it in the huge prep thread (didn't read all the pages), but is the support strut that goes over the engine removed with the SC setup, or is that for picture only? If it is removed, what is the effect on the car?

Kyle@STILLEN 03-12-2010 12:56 PM

It is off the car right now simply for testing purposes but yes, the strut bar does clear.

Buddy Revell 03-12-2010 01:04 PM

Even if I am going with GTM's system, those are some nice numbers, Kyle.

Red370 03-12-2010 01:05 PM

I keep imagining what the power will be like at 10psi... im giggly like a fu#kin schoolgirl :excited:

phelan 03-12-2010 01:05 PM

Thanks Kyle, I'm impressed with the work, now get me some videos!!!

xiven 03-12-2010 01:06 PM

definitely not a sleeper setup...oh well

rcm2525 03-12-2010 01:08 PM

Great work Kyle. I think even "birdman" will be impressed.

really? neither GTM's or Stillens is a sleeper, GTM's has a big aluminum intercooler and two shiny chrome intake tubes going straight to it. At least with this kit there is no visible intercooler, so if nobody sees whats under the hood, they'll never know. Now I wanna see some videos and hear that Stillen CBE with some forced fed air comin from it!

You haven't seen GTM's black piping/intercooler option. There are some pics of it on their TT kit. Definitely sleeper if you're going that route. But back on topic to Stillen's kit, can't wait to see vids to see how it sounds.

xiven 03-12-2010 01:20 PM

Yeah I would want to go the sleeper route. Looks more original like its suppose to be on the car. Looking at the 2 engine bays side by side, you can't even tell its the same engine anymore. I'm sure its awesome though, just not for me.

Good point, I think anyone that knows anything about cars will be able to tell that both are boosted. And yes, In for some VIDEOS!!:happydance:

1slow370 03-12-2010 01:22 PM

so kyle where is the new intake temperature sensor? does the factory MAP sensor have a new hole on the new manifold? do you have to extend the wires to any of the stuff that was on the original manifold or is ther a sub harness in the kit.

G Fo12ce 03-12-2010 01:22 PM

[QUOTE=Kyle@STILLEN;441923]Please ignore those six silver wires (three on each side) that you see in the photos. QUOTE]

I thought those were the reins so you could pull back the horses from the drivers seat. Woah!

Also coatings can be added to anything before install on anything. It is nice it's offered as an option by GTM but still I don't see how that's a deal breaker. Also, and I know this is just my opinion but weather it "looks" sleeper (on either kit) is not really relevant. Once both have a CARB # who do you have to sneak it by...? I guess it's an asthetics/creative thing and everyone has thier own tastes. Both look bad assz to me

whoa, stillen jackpot

Red370 03-12-2010 01:24 PM

Oh man, Stage 3 numbers, or estimates pleeeeease!!!! c'mon 500whp

Buddy Revell 03-12-2010 01:26 PM

Any pics/preliminary sketches of the optional engine cover?

puckshaw 03-12-2010 01:30 PM

Maybe I missed it but what was used for the dyno? Completely stock 370 baseline vs Stillen SC with everything else stock? Or did it have a Stillen exhaust like the G37?

1slow370 03-12-2010 01:30 PM

i think instead of an engine cover they should just make on big like gallon and a half capacity coolant reservoir molded to look like the cover. now that would be functional and classy and there is a ton of room in that photo.

ChrisSlicks 03-12-2010 01:38 PM

Looks great, great numbers (even if they are uncorrected).

Baseline was stock.. SC includes just the STILLEN CBE

We know virtually all SC customers will be running a cat-back exhaust..

fuct 03-12-2010 01:53 PM

nice kit!!

Zsteve 03-12-2010 01:56 PM

Thats a nice looking kit and good numbers too.

Question: What are the intake temps over ambient after the cooler during hard driving?

For my curiousity, why 7.9 psi and not 8?

bigcloud 03-12-2010 02:13 PM

Awesome job Stillen. I really like what you done with the kit!!

Zsteve 03-12-2010 02:25 PM

I know you guys will be answering questions like crazy now but here are a few things Id like to know:

Is the SC in its best effieciency range?
What is the weight of everything you added?
What are the intake temps after the cooler when driven hard?

Thanks guys and its a great looking kit, do you hear the SC wind up?

pty370z 03-12-2010 02:29 PM

Definitely on my to-do list but this goes under the long-term, actually, really long-term plans...

In for videos and more pics too.... Congrats Stillen.. Looks like an awesome job..:happydance:

RCZ 03-12-2010 02:48 PM

^ Its on my immediate to do list. In fact its in my done list.

Zsteve 03-12-2010 02:49 PM

Im waiting for my money from the Army so I can do a SC. I want power.

Shortfuse 03-12-2010 02:52 PM

Kyle, I have a couple of questions too...

1. What kind of aluminum did you use in your castings? Is it heat treated?
2. What are the thermal properties of the powder coating you used?
3. What size was the mandrel you used when bending the intake tube?
