To tell the truth, I am relieved as I thought my differential was going bad.
your kidding, not another Stillen issue. Bought a GTM oil cooler for way, way less. Plumbed it in the opposite direction because it made more sense and has worked perfect. Nada, zero, no issues.

Updates,

Monday, Oct 5

Went to the shop today to do some more diagnostics with almost 3 mechanics, every one of them had a shot at it (one at a time). Started the car waited till the Rev went down, i had One guy in the car with me (doors, windows closed) and the other mechanic was in front of the car (hood open). Started revving the car (Just gently plipping the throttle), and they heard the whining sound. I also noticed that the higher the oil temp gets the sound is more noticeable even when its idling. The mechanic started moving the oil lines and suddenly the was a different pitch in the sound. So he said probably the oil line is rubbing against some body parts. I was little re leaf to what he said. He took the front bumper off started to move the lines and see were it was touching or rubbing against body parts and covering it with rubber hoses. Started the car and the whining sound is still there! This time the car is on a lift no front bumper hood open and inside the garage. kept revving the car for the mechanic to find where the sound is coming from. I've been revving the car all morning so i tried a different method. By trying to hold the engine in a sirtin RPM to find if there is a sweet spot for this sound. It appears that the sweet spot for this sound is just slightly over 1000 RPM (somewhere between 1000-1250). And this time a clicking sound appears (i think the clicking sound was there all the time but i was passing it by revving). This time it was confirmed that it was the sandwich plate that's causing this clicking and whining sound.

Now, The only mechanical thing in the sandwich plat is a small ball and the spring under it. The only explanation for it to be there is to re leaf any sudden high oil purser in the oil lines. to prevent it from leaking at the joints.

So I was told that i have to contact Stillen to sort out this issue with them, coz Stillen mite not talk to us since you ordered the Oil cooler. I told the sales person to give it a try, Coz your shop installed their product and if they didn't want to cooperate I'll call them. So he agreed coz he had to talk to them about the same oil cooler that they ordered and installed for a customer. His issue was the cooler stop cooling!
While i was waiting for a respond. I called John at Z1 Motorsport to see if he had a chance to look at there car. He told me that they just got the car in, and will have an answer tomorrow.
Got a respond from the shop that Stillen says that the car shouldn't make any kind of sound with there cooler kit, and they will replace the sandwich plat. So i asked will they overnight the part they said no we have to send them the part first and when they get the part they will send us a new one. I called Stillen tech the same person who the shop talked to and i asked him if he can send the part overnight because i was spouse get my car last week and now its been delayed, and i have to get my car done this week. he said no they have to receive my part first and send it to there development department to investigate the cause. If it was a manufacturing defect, or an installation issue. and the ball is in the shops court. The sooner they send the part the sooner we can take care of this. I was like

If this is a "Ball Game" for you Stillen. You won. Why , Because you made money from me buying ur "Racing oil cooler". You saved money from not paying for parts being overnight back and forth. You saved money for not paying for the re installation that was caused by a defect of your product. Plus the cost of new oil and filter. Not to mention my wasted time.

Knowing that you had issues with your Oil sandwich plat (oil cooler sanwich plate noise), and other two on this thread have the same problem. Not to mention all the drama on other parts you make for this car. I don't think i will put any product from your company on my car.

To make the story short. I called the shop and asked them to order the Nissan Motorsport sandwich plat with there oil lines. Hope I get my car done this week.

If you want to look at the bright side of my situation. I'll be holding the record of the most expansive Oil cooler on a 370z.

Thank you Stillen.

Isn't the oil cooler kit a combination of parts from different manufacturers? If so, I think it is unfair to blame Stillen. It might be fair if they manufacturer all parts in house.

However, it is good to see that the issue is in the process of being resolved.

What a hassle!

Seriously, take the sucker off, send it back to Stillen and buy the GTM one for $380.00. I'm more than glad to send you the install pictures and instructions on how to do it as after you get it figured out, there is nothing to it. Super happy with mine. If you would like, I'll give you my personal phone number if you need help but sincerely doubt you would need any after seeing the simple instructions.

Say what you want, Stillen is on my poop list big time. There is no excuse for using customers as test dummies not working out the kinks before offering an item for sale. They tried to blame me on the install of the exhaust system which may have turned out be a faulty header quality control. Again, not fitting a test car before they sell them. No excuse.........period. There is an obvious trend that has been repeated on several products.

Fool me once.....shame on you. Fool me twice........shame on me. Ain't gonna happen again.

Am I missing something? Why is everybody so upset about the Stillen Race kit?

The core is a Setrab. The plate is a Perma Cool. The only proprietary part of the kit is the bracket. Are you upset about the bracket?

What is it you believe Stillen did wrong?

I'm looking into the rattling issue.. as was stated we do not make the plate, but are absolutely prepared to warranty it, if there is in fact something wrong.

In regards to this specific event, our advice was to have your shop get a new plate locally, which would be easy for any shop, and have them swap that in, send the plate back, we would look at it, if it was defective we would reimburse for the shipping and the part itself.

Overnighting one from here would be slower, and more costly, so our recommendation was the first option. Ordering other parts from Nissan wasn't our idea..

I thought the same thing...

Now a question for you. Are you having any of these issues with your race cooler and Mocal thermo plate?

Denny, I can appreciate you have some issues with STILLEN, we'd love to work those out with you offline, but you're blending your experiences with our exhaust to this oil cooler kit, claiming that we haven't test fitted these oil coolers on cars before selling them, or using any customers as "test dummies" is simply untrue.

If there is an issue with some of the sandwich plates, that's something we'd like to remedy immediately, but as of now there are apparently only a couple issues out of all of the cooler systems we've sold so far.

I hear a whining sound but it really does not concern me. In fact, I was relieved to discover that it was not my differential.

On the street I used to regularly see temps of 220 when cruising and 240+ when driving hard. Now, I cruise locked to 180 and there is no way to get it over 210.

I understand that when you start modifying your car there will be unintended consequences. For example, the ambient temperature gauge no longer works because of the added heat of the cooler. I can live with that.

Huh? Not sure where that is coming from, but mine works just fine......

If yours doesn't you might want to re-check your install..

Sorry to hear about this miss-hap, i'm not going to buy their oil cooler because of this hassle experience, i dont want any whining sounds coming from an oil cooler either. Just return it and get the GTM oil cooler.
