Different Take on Overheating Issue

According to Mobil's site, 400F is where their oil starts having issues. I think a lot of us are being paranoid...or are tracking the car and pushing it to limp

I think a lot of us are being paranoid...or are tracking the car and pushing it to limp mode and are raising fears...

it's not just about oil break-down... if that were the only issue I agree, I wouldn't worry until I saw 320-330+. We are concerned about the materials in the engine, e.g., bearing issue referenced, that are susceptible to heat... there is a reason for the conservative limp mode setting, you can be sure

Pfft, whatever - just take it out! Its not like the old motors werent having the same problem anyway, you just didnt know it!


(extreme sarcasm, in case you couldn't tell - tired of the same people throwing out the old "just pull the gauge out and ignore it, its fine" trick...)

OP mentioned the Porsche 996. For everyone not familiar with the Porsche world the 996 has depreciated so bad that it has a resale value less that 993.

I have one word for this alleged flawed overheating issue and it's no-fix resolution: ACTUARY

That's because the 996 wasn't that great a car. Porsche abandoned the faithful with that one... Better now with the 997. The 993 will remain a classic as the last of the aircooled cars. Wish I'd kept mine..

In addition, these forums are not a good cross-sectional sample for all Z owners. 99.9% of 370Z owners do not know these forums exist mush less post anything. Of the folks that do post, they are much more likely to post something that they perceive as a problem.

Agree.

Although I like this forum/site, it is so different from other automotive sites (like Pelicanparts). My deduction is that our cars are so new that the subject matters are totally the opposite of the other sites.

Still, I like it. It gives me novelty.

BMW, Mercedes Benz etc have all made sports cars for the road that do require modifications to be able to be tracked. Just check out the other forums and you will see Nissan has done nothing wrong. If you track your car then prepare it like you should. The street is not the track.

Default Oil temperature question

Nissan knew of this condition thus the limp mode. I don't track my car but I have been reading that track users in these cars do produce those temperatures. So when tracker complain about a few laps around the track and limp mode kicks in, I can understand Nissan's responds of," add a mode for cooling your oil", even though this car is advertised as a "sport car". But us cool drivers are finding out that just light spirited driving and driving in hot climates or stuck in traffic pushes the car into high temperatures like 280 degrees. Now to my question; how hot is hot? My car temperature is normally around 180-220. But with spirited driven or stuck in traffic on a hot day has reach up to 260. My point is even going into limp mode stuck in traffic will not reduce the oil temperature. Are these high temperature going to cause damage within the engine at some point. Don't you think Nissan's owes us an oil cooler? Shoud our investment have to break down before we think about joining in to get nissan to correct this matter. We might need a lawyer.

^ friend, this is quite the old thread you decided to dig up... that's fine, but I might suggest you search around - you'll see that the points you bring up have been debated over and over on this forum... member surveys have been done, letter writing campaigns, etc.
