Default Strange 7AT Problem this AM...

So this morning I'm driving to work as usual, slow bumper to bumper traffic on the side streets of Los Angeles. I'm about 2 minutes away from my office, when my car just fails to accelerate while in "drive". When I pressed the gas, the engine would rev, but wouldn't go. I turned on my hazards, put the car into park, and then back into drive, and I would be able to accelerate for about 20 seconds, then boom...same problem; revving w/ no acceleration!

I tried flipping into "manual" mode, but it wouldn't even let me do it (the gear selector on the center display remained in "D" instead of switching to manual gear #s). I pulled into my parking garage at work, and haven't done anything further yet. I did shut off the car, then re-start just to check if I could get into manual mode...and after re-starting, I WAS able to get into manual mode. I haven't tried driving yet though.

The oil temp was about 210deg; and I have a little less than half tank of gas. I have basic bolt ons / Uprev tune...but haven't ever had problems; and it's been a while since install. What do you guys think...simple ECU freak out...or something more? I really don't drive the car hard at all, so I would be surprised if there was some major tranny issue. Should I just try taking it out of the garage and see if it drives normally...or be extra cautious and get it towed to the dealer?

Thanks in advance!

Before taking to dealer, try to uninstall the tune and re-install it again. See if that helps.

Sound serious, bring to the dealership and check it out. I am not sure if 210 deg for oil temp is high? How many mileages is on your Z right now? This is strange.

200 to 220 oil temps are in the perfect range.

Hmm...I had the tune installed @ Stillen, so I would have to get the car to them to uninstall/re-install. I wonder if I should tow the car there?

210 is pretty normal for me after about 30 minutes of bumper to bumper traffic. I have a 25 row Stillen oil cooler also! I just turned 9,000 miles on Friday. I agree it's strange.

7AT Drive Issue

I had the same issue, i was getting on to the highway and lost all power, it would just rev. Only reverse would work. I had it towed, and by the time it got there it worked again. They checked all the wiring and couldn't reproduce it.

It hasn't happened again since.

Wowsers...I totally forgot about your old thread. Thanks for posting. I guess I'm glad to hear that it hasn't happened again, but it shouldn't happen AT ALL to begin with

I had this kind of similar problem to my GTR, and I got it fixed by re-install the tune. I'm not sure if that would work for the Z. Good luck

Thanks

So I decided to test out driving the car during my lunch break while the streets are less busy...and VOILA, no issues (phew!). I drove around for about 20 minutes...Auto Mode, Manual Mode, fast, slow...couldn't get the issue to repeat itself. So strange...but as IMTIRED noted above, this isn't an isolated issue...but apparently rare and non-repetetive.

I'll keep this thread updated if the issue resurfaces...but for now, I'm RELIEVED

Sounds like a hydraulic issue? Had this happen in an older Honda several times when the trans filter would get clogged up and pressure would drop. In modern cars the hydraulics are all electronically controlled so it can mess up there as well.

Excellent point. Since the GTR transmission and 7speed in the Z are prety much Identicle. I mean both are automatics, both only have two pedals. Both are even Nissans!

I'm guessing an electronic gremlin

I've had only one incident but mine was the tranny would not shift from auto to the paddels while trying it on the freeway so when I got off the freeway and stopped at the light it still didn't want to got into manual mode so I pulled over and shut it off and restarted it and the problem went away and has never returned. But keep us posted if it returns and maybe just try restarting it if it does.

I have an 09 7AT sport and i had just encounter this. I tried to restart but it only work for maybe 10 minutes before the light "M" on the dash is gone. Like TS, i always drive on M mode 95%, rarely on D mode.Really weird as i knew the oil temp was not high - 90 deg C, ambient is 36 deg C. To TS, did you manage to find the fix ? I tried to look into solution and the only sensor that can attribute to this issue is PNP switch. I dont even know where the switch located. Please enlighten us if you know more about this issue.

Car had 36 row oil cooler, custom test pipe and free flow exhaust plus ecutek tune. Will try to pull code tomorrow.
