I just test drove a 7AT Friday, albeit short. I was pretty surprised how it compared to the DSG in my '15 GTI. it seemed to be almost as fast and I really like the rev matching! I really enjoyed driving manual for ~20 years but the last 3.5 has made me lazy lol.

I won't be getting another car for 2-3 years but it will be interesting to see what I end up choosing.

Enjoying my 7AT very much now; 8months of ownership. Like some of you say on here, purely based on choice and preference.

Old person
After being on forum for awhile I released that factory manual transmissions are going away.Everyone of my age learned to drive a manual. My first truck had a 3 on the tree.I could not understand on forum why it was such a big deal about manuals and automatics.I now see that a lot of younger people never learned to drive a stick.I feel that the automatic shifts faster but if you have never experienced driving a stick you should.

With a stick. You will never have to worry about having your car hi-jacked or hot-wired. Because the hi-jackers and thief's can't drive sticks.

Good point
Kids can't drive stick.
In the future cars will drive themselves.People will lose out on one of the joys of life.

Over 30yrs. W/Class 3license-converted to CDL class A in late 80’s,,,had my share of shifting rigs & still do on occasions.
Being 6’6” is a big reason for the A/T preferred by myself + 2 new partial knees...I like the extra leg room without that tird pedal.
Nearly 5:1 1st gear isn’t bad either,,,you have to learn the A/T to be able to make it perform as well.

My previous ride was a fully Loaded FJ Cruiser loved that vehicle but it was automatic, on the way home from work I would actually fall asleep at the wheel and noticed that I would kill myself or someone one day. This was my second automatic since High School , now driving the same roads I have fun go figure, and don't flame me as most will say...how can you compare these 2, well I also noticed that once you are behind the wheel you never think about the outside of your car, at least I dont..

Some what off topic.
Driving truck is all about rev match.Transmission is non synchronized. You do not have rev match like your Z.Real men do not use clutch.I sound like a jerk but that is how it is to drive trucks.

Dude I graduated High School and decide to make money not being schooled to sit behind a desk, something some may think is crazy as being book smart counts more...anyway I drive a stick and taught my kids to drive and not aim so they that now see the difference..

Dis-Agree,,,Not double clutching a big truck transmission is wrong! That's why a lot of major outfits are purchasing A/T's for their fleets...as when shifting without clutch shocks the drive-line & cost more in repairs in the long run.
Sure,,,people can really hit it smoothly...but the times when it jolts what brakes internals.
As this is what i'm certified in doing & have plenty of training in this field....
Off topic,,,but i apolgize.
