Any gauge that gets pegged on a regular basis will fail sooner then later. Gauges do not like being pegged. You damage the internals and the sensor. A digital would be a bit better at being pegged.

Z folks, Here's what I used for oil pressure sensing.
URL: https://www.autometer.com/2-1-16-oil-press-0-120-psi-bfb-spek.html[/URL] Description from the Autometer website: 2-1/16" OIL PRESSURE, 0-120 PSI, STEPPER MOTOR, SPEK-PRO, BLACK DIAL, BLACK BEZEL, FLAT ANTIGLARE LENS Product # P325328 I regularly get 115 PSI at start-up when driving, within the first 5-6 minutes at 60-70 MPH. Drops to 85-90 PSI soon after that. Food for thought.

Here is some oil pressure data from a recent test.
The graph below shows the engine RPM, oil pressure and oil temperature when we did some acceleration tests (wide open throttle) in second gear to the top of 3rd gear on a closed course we rented. ![]() What I find interesting is that with the engine oil temp at 103C / 217F at 6,000 RPM there is 104 PSI of oil pressure. Test results from 2011 G37 Sport Sedan (6MT) with 105,000 miles. |
