FWIW, I did the same thing you are considering back in 2013. Don't do it.
I got a free tune for a guy that mostly does Miatas and wanted to break into the Z tuning market with Ecutek when it was brand new to the platform. He promised a lot and delivered on very little. He was too busy with the Miata platform and it was impossible to ever coordinate with him for additional tuning when I added mods or the dyno comparison that he promised me. Per our agreement I still owed him $175 for the actual license, but he couldn't even be bothered to return my phone calls to take my money when I tried to reach out to him. I bought a cable so I can data log on my own and moved on to Seb at Specialty Z for all my tuning needs. Well worth it!!
