Default Mobil1 M1-108A breaking down?

So I'm prepping to install an oil cooler, drained the oil, and when I removed the oil filter I notice what I first thought were pieces of grass in the filter. Looking closer and feeling these thi gs, it seems to he the filtering element of the filter itself.
The filter has less than 2500 miles on it. Has anyone else ran into this? I sure hope none of this stuff got into my engine. I'm having second thought on using mobile1 filters again, but read that the K&N is the same rebranded filter

Never heard of a Mobil 1 filter failing? They are considered top-end filters. You sure it’s not some contaminant that got into the filter?

Im pretty sure. They feel rubbery like a broken rubber band, and theyre pretty anchored into the filter itself when you tug on them.

Doesn't look like filter element parts to me. I like 2011 Nismo#91's suggestion to cut the filter open and see what's going on.

Edit: Buddy of mine says it looks like cellophane to him.

Ok may sound strange in a world where customer service is considered dead.. but try contacting mobileone. https://mobiloil.com/en/contact-us. Send the photo see what they say.

I too have never heard of the Mobil 1 oil filter filter media coming apart it’s hard to believe. I hope you are doing your oil changes on time on your Z? The synthetic filter media is the same on the K&N and Mobil 1 oil filters just a different spring, hub, and case. The K&N and Mobil 1 oil filters are both great quality oil filters to use on your Z. The only oil filter I ever seen where the media came apart was a Fram oil filter as the the Fram oil filters use low quality card board media. I would never use any Fram filter on my Z. You definitely want to choice an oil filter that uses synthetic media in there oil filters and a strong case a specially if you are going to be using an oil cooler on your Z.

I bought this car used and from the car fax, it seems the previous two owners had the oil changed at the dealers every 3k miles.what type oil and filter they used, I have no clue. I've been doing every 2.5k with mobil1 oil and filter.
I dont think it's from cheap paper filters because whatever it is has elastic properties. It doesnt just RIP if you tug on them. Just kind of stretched before breaking. I'm gonna contact mobile1 and see what their input is.

Cut the filter apart. See where the ends are attached. It maybe part of the gasket when they assembled the filter.

I always used Napa’s PT#47356,,,synthetic media for synthetic oils.
It’s a tad longer; made for the GTR & Trucks..but fits nicely.
Made by Wix.

It kind of looks like the silicone thing they use to stick the oil pan to the engine, the ultra grey thingy. Maybe previous owners had to remove oil pan for some reason, and part of the scrapped glue was left inside? Long shot here btw....

I didn’t look at the picture the first time; looks like the glue they use to hold them together with,,,Mayberry put a bit much on that filter.
If you had a borescope; wouldn’t hurt to look around inside the oil pan or inside any openings to crankcase....hopefully nothing is coming un-glued internally.
Wouldn’t hurt to send an oil sample to “Blackstone-Labs” for verification,,,it will show if you have something chewing inside your engine.
They freely speak with you over the phone about your oil analysis as well.

This is why I only use Nissan oil filters. Yeah, there are some better filtering ones on the market but this is the kind of stuff I worry about in the picture. That's part of the filter hanging out. That didn't come from the engine.

They're different, but almost all filters are manufactured by Champion Labs. K&N and Mobil1 included.

Cut it open at the end cap and see if anything is coming off. It's definitely not filter media, but could possibly be the glue used inside the end cap. It'd shock me if so, but only one way to find out. Post results!
