Default is it ok to? (oil change) redline --> mobil1

HI,

I have done my oil changes using redline so far ( total 2 ).

Would it be ok to change this to mobil 1 ? I do not drive the car hard at all... so far i have only gone to 7k rpm maybe 2 times.

my biggest reason behind wanting to change is cost as if I do not need an oil like redline I dont want to throw $ away ... however if this will in any way compromise the life of the engine then I dont care spending extra for Redline..

please advise.

Thanks,
jay

I've done it... you're likely ok even if you DO drive it hard... it is still a synthetic... just arguably a lesser grade one.

It is completely fine. I run to 8k during some spirited driving and some auto-x stuff and have had ZERO issues. It's just oil.... As long as your using synthetic 5w-30 you'll be alright. Too many people over think this. Some people, depending on climate, switch weights too. I have 35k on my Z and I've been using Mobil 1 since probably 10k or so

All Chevys hi performance engines request Mobile 1 so of its good for the corvette and other advanced DI turbo it's more than fine for our old style motor.

which is what i find weird. I upgraded my turbo in my Evo to a FP Red and it says in big bold letters in the install guide "WARNING: DO NOT USE MOBILE 1 OIL" lol.

That really makes no sense that they would mention one type/brand of oil not to use... there are plenty of oils on the market with lesser grades.

Maybe Mobil 1 uses an additive that doesn't agree with the system?

Yes, I went with Redline 5w-30 for my first oil change, then went to Mobil 1 after a few thousand miles. I can barely tell a difference, tbh. I think there was less noticeable engine noise, but very slight. Performance wise, it felt the same. If you're not doing any heavy track sessions, I would save a few dollars and stick with Mobil 1.

The reason they named Mobile 1 is because thats the oem oil and says in the manual/oil cap. Thats my guess at least. I use Royal Purple XPR 5W30 (which is one of the oils they recommend with their turbo's).

I guess I'm one of those people that over think this but: Mobil 1 shows a high degree of Iron wear in VQ engines. I'm not saying M1 is bad but from I've seen on bobistheoilguy it just doesn't get along with our engine. The Mobil 1 oil filters on the other hand are top-notch.

If you plan on keeping the car for a while; I'd spend the few extra bucks on a good synthetic like Pennzoil Platinum.

What do you plan running for OCI because w/ Redline you could take it out to 10,000 miles OCI. Personally I'd just go with a good synthetic locally available in a big jug (Pennzoil Platinum) and change it out every 5-6k miles.
