You need the vent line in order to fuel up like you did previously. As you pump the fuel into the tank you are displacing the air inside the tank.

You need the vent line in order to fuel up like you did previously. As you pump the fuel into the tank you are displacing the air inside the tank. That air has to go somewhere and that is why there was a vent line above the level where the end of the fuel nozzle would be. Just hook the line back up to the original location.
