DIY: Center Console Mounted Radar Detector Mute Button

Nice write up, have you ever considered Mikes mount or blendmounts for your radar?

Its actually fairly easy. The hardest part(which is not hard), is using the dremel tool to make three holes in the switch blank. Other than that it is easy. I'd say 3/10 for difficulty.

Just wondering where everyone connected the power wire. Has anyone spliced it into the power wire for the mirror?

I tapped into the power wire for the console lighter plug. Te harness is right in front of the shifter once you pull the shift boot up. It's a two prong harness. One yellow wire(12v switched) one ground (probably black, but I don't remember specifically). Tap or splice into it there. Piece o cake.

Anyone have a clean place to mount the new escort live direct wire control box? It's a little larger than the one in the OP so it will not fit in a switch blank.

I know this post will bring up an old tread, but the only part that I am lost on is how you run the wire from the detector up through the headliner and down to the center console button. Or is that even how you do it?

Not sure which kit I can use for my Cobra detector.. the one I looked at had a telephone jack looking piece. I have a normal ring/laptop looking input for my detector.

A barrel jack only has power and ground (2 wires) so there's no way to do mute with that. Unless there's some other port on the detector.
