Has anyone figured out a way to have the brake light flash for a few seconds then turn off? I wouldn't want to be sitting at a traffic light flashing

Just use a 12V time delay relay. Basically when you brake the relay energizes and starts the flash. After a set amount of time (let’s say 5 seconds of being energized from hitting the brake) it disengages causing the flash to stop.

Something like this

You guys are getting all fancy schmancey with your flashing this and flashing that. It makes me dizzy.

Yet it seems like I've read about 75,000 threads on this topic, both about the EVO-R light and the OEM light, and no one that I've read has clearly shown or listed how any normal person like me (insert self B.S. here

) wants to hook this up. All I want is a simple 4th brake only light, that works just like the 3rd brake only light in the spoiler. I THINK all I need to do is hook into the green wire on the drivers side taillight wiring, but I'm still not sure.

I don't need all that flashy flashy business. Personally I'm not even fond of it. For example, I hate those Mustang tail light turn signals that sweep from center to out.

I'm in the same boat. About the time I think I've got it figured out, I read the next post in a DIY and I'm all confoozed again because everyone's doing different stuff with it. Wish there was a DIY for just 'it lights up when you push the pedal in the middle'.

Or for us too lazy to drive a stick folks (that's me by the way), the pedal on the left.

Has anyone out there just hooked this thing up normal? A.K.A No flashy flashy boom boom?

It's not difficult if you read the original post... three leads off the fog; ground, constant on, and flash... ground the light and then install the constant on to the brake light and your set. I don't know the specific wire colors since I haven't received my unit yet but it is pretty simple.

Those are exactly what I was looking at... some have a timed on, others have a timed off... kinda bulky but hopefully it would do the trick. I'd rather find a small board with just jumpers or something that I can neatly tuck away but the variability in the settings is nice too.

Yeah, I know it's not hard (except for getting the old nuts off the factory dummy light), but it's which exact wire I'm trying to figure out. I don't have my car yet either, but since others have already done this, it seems unnecessary to have to splice into 5 wires just to find the right one. Everyone's instructions go down some other road or off to some other tangent. I have not seen a clear concise post with someone just doing it simple the way I want. It would just be nice to know that it's 100% for sure the green wire before I get started.

And I'm not just talking the EVO-R light (which looks like a nice product by the way), because I decided to go with the OEM fog instead, which I believe only has 2 wires, power & ground. I didn't need the flash stuff, and I wanted it to be as bright as possible. From what I've read the OEM light is really bright. It was also cheaper.

Bonzo, since you are getting a 2012, I don't think you will have to sweat taking the plug out. On both my 2011 and a buddy's 2011, neither was a bit of a problem. Maybe the factory ran out of loc-tite after the 2009-2010 run?

Just use a torch. It makes a HUGE difference with the damn Loctite. You may char the black plastic bracket a little bit but no one will see it A, and B you don’t use it with the Evo-R light anyways.

There are numerous other ways. Some companies make a programmable flasher relay (just wire to the constant on the light). It does the flashing for you and then stops. Similar to some motorcycle lights. I figured the timer relay is the most cost effective way for people and you can tuck the relay behind the plastics in the hatch. Plus they have great adjustability. If I still had my Z I would do a full write up. Most people here who are remotely electronically savvy can figure it out. Maybe EVO-R will see everyone’s comments and design the "next generation or another model with different options for people.
