How does Ti shims add life/reduce heat to brake pads and rotors? I thought it's just a better heat barrier between the pad's backing plate and the brake pistons, purpose

How does Ti shims add life/reduce heat to brake pads and rotors?
I thought it's just a better heat barrier between the pad's backing plate and the brake pistons, purpose is to help alleviate/buy time before boiling brake fluid?
