Light weight rotors & calipers

What brand makes lightest rotors and calipers for 370z with 18" wheels? Is there any titanium calipers? Any one know?

Keep in mind 370Zs are not supercars. Manufacturers are not going to bother making anything super special for our Zs. It’s not profitable for them. A standard BBK from a top brand (StopTech, AP Racing, etc.) will drop the weight more than a few pounds (see below). How ever 18" rims limits your choices. I have StopTech's BBK with 14" rotors which are supposed to fit under 18" rims. I haven't tried 18" rims on them yet but StopTech says 18" rims will fit over the 14" rotor BBK. If you’re not a StopTech fan, look out for BBKs with 14” rotors. Any thing over 14” and you run the risk of it not fitting under an 18” rim.

A couple of years ago I installed a 14” rotor StopTech BBK. I weighed everything and the results are below. Here’s a link to my install thread: StopTech 4P Front & Rear BKK Install

Also they have been resurfaced once.

(Edit: all weights are individual weights so X2 for total savings)

OEM SP Front Calipers 11.6 lbs
StopTech Front Calipers 8 lbs

OEM SP Front Rotors 30 lbs
StopTech Front Rotors 18.8 lbs

OEM SP Rear Calipers 7.4 lbs
StopTech Rear Calipers 5.9 lbs

OEM SP Rear Rotors 20 lbs
StopTech Rear Rotors 20.5 lbs

Wow, that's some nice unsprung weight savings in the front!

The rear rotors didn't go down in weight because of the size of the BBK rotor. The rear BBK rotor is thicker and has a larger diameter than the rear OEM SP rotor. Also the hat on the rear BBK rotor is bigger and thicker than the front BBK due to the parking brake. That's why the rear BBK rotor weighs more than the front BBK rotor.

I knew there was a good reason why the rear weight was equivalent but thanks for the nice photos. I love brake pron.

No one makes a titanium caliper. It's not a good choice of material for the application. Brembo does make titanium pistons for the calipers. But you need drug money to buy those. I have them in my Brembo mono-block calipers on my bike.

For a light weight front and rear BBK. You will be spending $6,000 and up.

I have the z1 2 piece rotors front and rear on my Z with 18x9 wheels. The fronts are 20.3lbs and rears are 15lbs a side I believe.

So takes off 30lbs of un-sprung weight.

A local guy has front and rear Brembo GT with 380mm carbon ceramic rotors that'll save you some serious weight. He also has the 18" Rays te37sl to fit over those huge rotors. It was around $17k for the whole kit tho.
