Default StopTech 4P Front & Rear BBK Install

Today was the beginning of a healthy list of installs on my Z.
This includes a StopTech BBK with a Stillen Front Brake Cooling Kit.

I chose the 4 Piston Calipers Front kit and 4 Piston Caliper Rear kit both with 14 inch slotted rotors.
I didn't see the need to go 6P on the front; 4P is more than enough.
Also I plan on getting 18 inch rims for the track so the 15 inch rotors were out.

Front Left caliper and rotor.

4P Front and Rear Piston comparison. Front Left (left caliper) Rear Right (right caliper)

4P Front and Rear size comparison. Front Left (left caliper) Rear Right (right caliper)

Today the original front brakes were taking off and the Stillen Font brake cooling kit was installed.

Tomorrow the install continues with the front brakes.

More to follow!

Well, the front rotors feel like they are about half of the stock front sport package rotors.
I'll try to weigh the rotors and calipers before they are put on.

There's more to a caliper than pot count. I remember reading a comparison on the akebono calipers a while back that listed the features that it didn't have or differed compared to something from brembo or AP racing. Can't remember exactly what it was for the life of me, or find the thread again.
Our akebono kit seems to be heaver than just about every other BBK though.

because if you are coming downhill into turn 10a at Road Atlanta at 150mph and brake at the 250 foot mark, you want to know that the car is going to slow down, consitently, every time.

Pics first!

Front Left

Rear Right with Z1 10mm spacer and extended studs.

Front Right with my Volk Racing Type II G2s rocking new Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08s.

Rear Right

Now for some numbers.

Weight

Please keep in mind that my OEM rotors have around 17K of use which includes more than a few track and autocross days.
Also they have been resurfaced once.

(Edit: all weights are individual weights so X2 for total savings)

OEM SP Front Calipers 11.6 lbs
Stoptech Front Calipers 8 lbs

OEM SP Front Rotors 30 lbs
StopTech Front Rotors 18.8 lbs

OEM SP Rear Calipers 7.4 lbs
StopTech Rear Calipers 5.9 lbs

OEM SP Rear Rotors 20 lbs
StopTech Rear Rotors 20.5 lbs

Why the StopTech Rear Rotors weigh more than the OEM.

Also the hat on the StopTech rear rotor has more metal for the parking brake that's why the rear weighs more than the front.

Calipers Piston Sizes

OEM SP Front 38mm 40mm
StopTech Front 40mm 44mm

OEM SP Rear 37mm
StopTech Rear 28mm 30mm

The StopTech calipers will flex less and be more consistent.
Also the StopTech calipers are lighter and have bigger pistons.

While my StopTech BBK was being installed also installed MotorDyne ARTs and M370.

I'll be at ZDayZ this year if any of you want to check out my setup.

Enjoy!
