Default Stock system is GARBAGE!!!!

Ok I really don't know much about sound systems but I can say that the stock system in the nismo is just trash.

Now I really want to save my money on performance mods so I really don't wanna go all out on the speakers, but I want a decent system.

I am a total noob, but what would be the cheapest way to upgrade the system? I'd like to add a decent subwoofer and just upgrade the other speakers so it can actually get louder, because right now the max volume is not loud at all. Could I do all this for 500 or less if I shop around?

I'm there with you. Want a decent brand of 6.5s under $100 for the front. Subs are not that expensive so you should be good.

Where in the US are you? So Cal is teaming up to get board A/V guru bigaudiofanatic out here to do some installs. His basic but good upgrade New to 370z with questions (buy at Amaz*n/Crutchfi*ld) is a good start. Subwoofer would be an option and not hard to add, but cost would double on parts ($200=$400 or more with sub and box).

Thanks for posting. I am actually in GA so I probably will not be attending the install event lol.

But I read through the thread you linked to but I am not sure I understand this post:

I highly recommend if you do not want to upgrade to a new head unit to at least use a LOC or a mtx re-q5 and add new amps to power your new speakers as they are going to want more power.

.

Is he saying that you cannot improve the stereo without getting a new head unit? I see that the specific post you linked to contained a list of parts. Is this what I would need to purchase in order to improve the sound without getting a head unit?

You SHOULD upgrade the head unit you can use the base stock unit however it only puts out a very small amount of power, 9 watts, as opposed to the 22 watts most new head units put out.

There are a lot of threads asking exactly what you are asking, search for new speakers, speaker upgrade, upgrade system, new audio system, stock system junk, and so on.

Lots of threads on this.

thanks, yeah I am doing some searching at the moment. Could you just clear one thing up for me? Instead of getting a new head unit, is it not possible to get an amp to give the speakers the power they need (and also connect the same amp to the subwoofer)?

Yes, using either a LOC or more recommended the re-q5 you can tap into your factory speaker outputs and run all new amps and new speakers. This is commonly used in bose systems a lot of times.

I still don't know wtf I should buy to keep the total cost under 500... I have been looking at aftermarket head units but they all look cheap and crappy. And they all have blue as the main color which does not match the interior at all.

Can somebody who has done this before maybe take a few minutes to just put together a list of parts for me to buy? I can honestly say I searched for a total of 2 hours since yesterday but I'm quite clueless on what is available

I basically just want:

replacement speakers (door and dash mounted speakers)
cheapish sub
cheap head unit (if necessary)
cheap amp
and any other supporting hardware needed....

If anyone can help me with this that would be great. Otherwise I am probably just going to go to some car audio shop and ask them for some help, but I've got a feeling that this option would end up costing me more money

They may be standard color blue but 8 out of ten of the head units now can be changed to over 1,000's of colors.

Everything under 500? Can not be done unless your going to do wal mart specials.

Do yourself a favor SAVE YOUR MONEY AND DO NOT GO CHEAP

Speakers polk db's

Rockford fosgate punch stage 1 or 2 for sub

Head unit alpine 123, or use a LOC if you want to keep your stock unit "not recommended"

Rockford or kicker amp for sub

Kicker 8 gauge power wire and rca wires "there is a kit search kicker 8 gauge on amazon"

Sub box? you can spend 100+ on a z enclosure or go with a cheap truck box. You are still talking a good amount of money.

I added everything in a shopping cart as cheap as I could find it it all came to just about 700. That is without a box and install.

You could always look for everything on eBay.. if I were you, I'd go into best buy, and have an employee walk you through everything you need, and write it all down, then get online and buy it cheaper online. Save yourself some money.

Oh I see. Good to know that you can change the colors on the head unit. In that case I guess I will spend a little more money and go with the Clarion cx609 because I like the fact that it has Bluetooth and doesn't look too bad IMO. (EDIT: just noticed that the one you posted has Bluetooth as well, but in terms of looks I think the clarion looked a bit closer to stock which is what I am going for)

Thanks a bunch for putting the list together. It helped tremendously
