Dynamic dampers in stock exhaust system

What are the two dynamic dampers for in the stock exhaust system? I came across them in a drawing of the stock exhaust system located in the 2009 370Z service

They are there to counteract any resonance the stock pipes would cause without them.

I'm not talking about the resonators.

If I get time later today I'll try and post a copy of the exhaust diagram that shows the dynamic dampers separate from the resonators.

Yeah, I know you weren't. You were talking about the dampers, which I was talking about as well.

The dampers you are talking about are designed to stop the pipes they are attached to from resonating at certain RPMs... they effectively change the weight of the piping and thus change the resonance frequency...

Totally different exhaust design... if it doesn't have them it doesn't need them.

So these dampers are some kind of weight that's bolted to the exhaust pipe?

I can't tell how they function from looking at the service manual diagram. I thought they were some kind of device that actually was inserted into the exhaust pipe and had a controlling device external to the pipes.

Thanks for the info. though!

They are like mini hockey pucks. Let me put my pants on and I'll take a picture for you.

Thanks for the picture Steve.

It looks like it's just a hunk of metal attached with a bracket.

What's that little shaft looking thingy that I see in the picture that's welded to the weight & then connects to the bracket for?
