Default DEALER says Ichiba 20mm Type 2 Bolt-On Wheel Spacers are DANGEROUS!?

***MY FAULT: EXACT SPACER ON WHEEL IS Ichiba 20mm Type 2 Bolt-On Wheel Spacers***
So, I have another post about my car stumbling when it sits for awhile and you go to start it. As suggested, I took it to the dealer ASAP. I dropped it off yesterday at 11:00 AM and told the service manager about the issue and also asked him to check out my camber and alignment, as I detected un-even wear on my tires. Well, the guy calls me yesterday at about 4:30 and says they can't find anything wrong with the engine to cause the stumbling and didn't think it was a severe issue. However, the Level 4 Nissan tech that road force balanced my rims was very concerned about the spacers that were installed. He mentioned that the spacers were starting to dig into the rim and that this type of spacer is VERY dangerous to have on and will cause the wheel to fail eventually. He noted that the spacer had begun to dig into the rim and its forcing the axle and tires to not "flex" properly. he also noted that this is why the wheel got a bit shaky at highway speeds. Any thoughts on this...anyone else have these spacers?? I just don't want to take them off if he is being dramatic/jealous because they make the stance look so much more aggressive on the car.

It sounds like u should just take a tire off and take a look for yourself. ....
They are also covering there a$$. They could be right, they can only void the warenty if they prove ur aftermarket product did the damage.... So take a wheel off and post a pic and will see

He could have a point if the spacers you're using actually don't match the wheel you're using. Make them show it to you, or check it yourself. You need to visually see this supposed damage to the wheel, and visually/mechanically verify that the spacer is of the correct shape to mate with the wheel and hub correctly. It's always possible you have the wrong model of spacer, or that something else minor is wrong (e.g. there needs to be a hub-centric ring on the inside or outside of the spacer and its missing?).

Those looks like they are V2, doesn't specify if they are hub centric or not that I can see...

I had Ichiba V2 on my 350Z and didn't have an issue, not heard before about CZP.

These are the EXACT ones i ordered, they are Ichiba's: Ichiba 20mm Type 2 Bolt-On Wheel Spacers - 370Z - performance parts

The guy did mention that the Z uses a hub-centric system..so it needs a hub centric spacer. I am not positive on what exactly this means. My guess is you can't/shouldn't use a bolt on spacer

You mention CZP first, however hub centric is a ring that comes with the spacer set it keeps the wheels center on the spacer. That way you don't get vibration from your wheels.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

A wheel or spacer can be hub-centric without using a hub-centric ring (plastic shim). The shims are just so that wheel/spacer mfgs can make universal parts that fit different hub diameters without specializing too much. I don't know whether those specific spacers were meant to be used with a hub-centric ring on our application or not. Ask the mfg?

you're using the right ones. hubcentric wheels rely on both the hub and lugs to keep it in place.

you need to show us a pict of the inside of the wheel, expecially the center bore (behind the center cap). that's where the hubcentric ring lip sits on. im thinking the dealer is saying he's found some cracks or something in that area.

Kenchan - hopefully can get some pics this weekend. Need to make a trip before ripping the wheels off as I do not have the tools for it laying around.

The Ichiba spacers are usually hubcentric. The little "lip" around the center of the spacer is the hubcentric ring; it's not a separate piece like Project Kics spacers. The hubcentric ring is there to center the wheel on the hub; when you don't use hubcentric rings, the lugs are used to center the wheel which can cause vibrations at speed.

Check to make sure that the hubcentric ring is still intact and also that it fits your wheel's center bore properly. If there's any kind of play, this is probably where the vibration is coming from.

^^ Exactly, I have hubcentric spacers for my Z32 track wheels. You do not want the bolt circle and tapered lugs centering the wheel on the axis of rotation. Something as small as a bent stud can/will cause an eccentric rotation of the entire wheel. Certain cause of vibration no matter how well it is balanced. Usually these situations are minimal at the time of balance and get worse with tire wear.
