Broken wheel stud and lug nut.

i dont have wheel locks on my car, but i have a question that's kind of related. the lug nuts for our cars are 21 or 22mm? it's weird, but

i dont have wheel locks on my car, but i have a question that's kind of related. the lug nuts for our cars are 21 or 22mm? it's weird, but on my car, when using a 21mm socket, it seems too tight (almost doesnt even fit), but 22mm is too loose. i had a shop work on my car a while ago, and i'm thinking maybe they put on the wrong nuts?? i dont remember having this problem before and i used to have to remove and tighten the nuts all the time when changing my pads before and after track days. i'm pretty sure it's supposed to be 21mm. someone correct me if i'm wrong. thanks.

FML...So on my situation today the dealership told me to bring to a local tire shop to get it repaired. So i went in today only to watch the Easy-Out(13/16 remover) fail to grip on the broken locking lug but also scratched and chipped my rim... waiting to see what the dealer can do now... absolutely frustrated...checked with everyone in this town and nobody has a solution. Wish a dealership was close by...

The Easy-out isn't going to work. Use a special lug remover socket, I found mine at Pep-boys. It has sharpened threaded teeth that will bite onto the smooth surface of the broken lug with the use of an impact wrench.

Update: Went to a machine shop yesterday and he gave me a 19MM socket to grip the broken nut. We tested it on another locking lug nut and it grabbed and held on the tip amazingly hard(had to use a vice to separate them). Sure enough with little force and NO DAMAGE to the rim it grabbed and unscrewed it, no problem. Just goes to show if you want something done right... Do it yourself

I did the same thing when I had a similar issue years ago on my old camaro. Took a socket, smacked it on with an extension/hammer, and took the lug right off.

Add me to the list. So frustrated, was in the middle of Swift springs install, and went to finish in the back, and one of them broke right off. Can seem to find any tools to get it off - been to all of the autoparts stores and sears. Supposedly Sears has a Lugout tool, but the one near me don't have them. So frustrated - attempted to drip the edges and try to get a grip, didn't work, and marked the wheel a little. Also, tomorrow, I plan to hammer a 19mm on it and see if that works. Unfortunately, the dealer I bought the car from, went out of business, so I see no help from Nissan....

Ended up getting it off with a broke 19mm socket. Got lucky, but still put a few marks on a perfect wheel - makes me mad thinking about it.

I can't believe that you've had them on all this time! Mine broke the very first time I torqued the lugs. Too bad you didn't find this thread before it happened. I can sympathize, my dealer was completely useless and I ended up having to do it myself. I was steaming for a few days.

I've had the car for 2+ years, 11k, and never taken the wheels off, so no need to look at them. Now that I am finally getting to springs and wheels, this is when I first touched the lugs.

So guess what I was doing tonight..... yup Swift Spring install. Springs have been sitting in my garage for the last month waiting on my H&R spacers. Take the first locking wheel nut off and it explodes. My friend who has been a mechanic for a LONG time looks at me and says he's NEVER seen one of those break. Looks like we'll have to drill the stud out and press a new one in. My issue is that these incorrect wheel nuts screw up your wheel as well. Has anyone had their wheel fixed or replaced? I'm wondering since the dealership put them on my car when I bought it then aren't the responsible for the damage from putting the wrong part on my car?

To add insult to injury it turns out the wheel spacers don't fit properly either although I was assured they would fit..... double grrr....

If your dealer put them on then they are responsible for removing them and repairing/replacing any wheel that is damaged in the process.

The extractor tool works well without having to resort to drilling. Still a slight chance it could scratch as there isn't a lot of clearance. Adding some tape around it might help.

I bought the car from a dealership off the Island but they made arrangements to have my local dealership take care of it. Removed the broken lug and replaced the locks with the correct part. No charge and no hassel. I'll take a look at the wheels when we put the rear springs in tonight.....
