Can anyone with...

12.99 timeslips help me out here.
Due to poor timing, I haven't been able to get to the 1/4 mile since I had my uprev done. Well, tonight Lakeland dragway was running 1/8th races. Was experimenting with different shift methods (paddle shifter...auto trans...produced the hardest shifts breaking the tires loose on both the 1-2 AND 2-3 shifts). I'd like to speculate what my 1/4 time/mph may have been.
1/4...039 rt, 2.077 60ft, 8.71 660ft, 83.3mph, 13.42@104.6 78*
1/8...194 rt, 2.035 60ft, 8.43 660ft, 85.4mph...????? 58*
these are the best runs of both days.
I know, it doesn't count until I submit the slips AND the 1/4 mile time is just speculation until I actually run it but I'm curious.
Next time I'll experiment with tire pressure to reduce spinning.
Thanks to anyone who replies (in kind...I know the haymakers are coming too...lol)

Has anyone run with bolts on only at least 320 whp?

For reference, just about all my 12.9 and 12.8 runs were 8.3x @ 86.x mph 1/8 mile times.

I'd sure like to know how some of you are hitting low 13s and high 12s stock. I cannot break 13.6, even with lowering my rear tire pressure.

Are you guys dropping in some racing fuel for added boost?

thanks...will try lower tire pressures next time. raised my shift light to 7700 rpm which resulted in tire spin on the 2-3 shift as well as 1-2 (long chirp) so I know there's more to be had.

first off, i have a natural advantage..I'm just about at sea level. (although my disadavntage is I weigh about 235)
I have the FI exhaust and stillen G3s...passes with those MADE NO DIFFERENCE in my times. The uprev netted me 3/10ths (best run vs best run) in the 1/8th and 2+ mph but the shifts are MUCH harder and I now break loose on the upshifts. will keep trying.
all in all, this car is impressing me more and more. N/A 3.7 6 cyl capable of 12 second runs. BMW uses turbos, GM and Dodge 6.2 liters and the new 5.0 is just a beast.

Temperature and elevation have a lot to do with it. I'm close to sea level and usually go with temps below 60-70*F.

They might not have made a difference in the 1/8th mile, but they probably would have in the 1/4 mile. Each of my bolt on mods made me a little bit faster in the 1/4 mile but more noticeably improved my trap speed. I've trapped as high as 109.5 mph and that's without Uprev.

NBZ34 11-25-2012 12:37 PM

I figured my 650 el played a part here in central tx, along with temps and humidity.. but still! I just cannot see how a full stock 370 without bolt on mods can achieve these times!

Where were you? I didn't see you at the track this weekend:icon17:

Well I did it. Yesterday I broke 12.5. I did a 12.487 @ 109.15 w a 1.696 60'.
Next run I did a 1.681 60' (my lowest 60' ever) but couldn't get it into 2nd. :( That would have been a 12.47 for sure. Ended the day with 3 12.5 runs.

I have no idea what mods to add to go lower. LOWER not slower:).

More details on my350z.com drag section.

Race fuel would slow the car down further, unless it was detonating madly.

Race fuel = slower ignition. (Allows more timing advance or compression or boost. None of which you have.)

Best times = Good air (High barometric pressure), good traction, little incremental changes, and practice, practice, practice.

In any endeavor which I begin at (and suck at!), I always simply watch and ask and chip away at things. In time, all of a sudden you 'get it'.

Good luck!

Great times for you! NOW I'm cranky. :shakes head:

I had a BUNCH of work I had to complete last week and weekend (photography gig) and although I knew it would be a good outing at a track with these temps, I could not free myself up.

Where was my prompting... ;)

Got a ??? for you. I've been seeing stations advertise No Ethanol gas. Everywhere I get mine, it's 10% eth or less. Knowing it takes more eth to make the same fire....has anyone compared "pure" fuel power to the corn blend garbage? Maybe I can pick up the last 1/10th I need.

nmjaxx9 11-28-2012 03:25 AM

gonna go back to Lebanon Valley when it opens again with some 305s I should be putting down better numbers than last spring. :stirthepot::tup:

I dunno the comparisons, but it may surprise you...

The Corn Blend 'garbage' is actually e10, a step closer to e85. That's all measured in percentages.

For a turbo kit the 10% ethanol is like adding an octane booster. We can produce MUCH more power with 93oct + 10% ethanol than, say, CA at only 91 Hi-oct no eth.

Of course tuning is what is necessary to take advantage of the octane levels, and that's what I've had done.

YMMV.

Yea, what I mean by garbage is that it requires MORE fuel (this is what I've heard) and higher pressures to burn efficiently (kinda like lo grade diesel) and that we were duped by environmentalists into producing the stuff. 2 gallons of standard fuel required to produce a little more than 1 gallon of etho. remove the subsidies and only a few could afford to run it daily.
back to original question tho....anyone run pure gas only vs etho blend and see any difference or is the fuel delivery system set up more toward etho?

BTW, got one of them new iphone thingies (welcome to the 21st century) and I'll be able to post my slips when I get home.

New record....

Well, on Wed I learned Jimmy was renting the track Fri Dec 14 at Atco. Hmmmmm.

I just returned for a lonnnng drive there and back. Worth every mile.

Five runs: 11.39, 11.54, 11.13, 11.36, 11.13.

That's right: TWO 11.13's within an hour. All around 122-123mph.

Here's the first proof:

http://www.fototime.com/15DAACF073CCE36/medium800.jpg

I have videos from within and from the outside. Conditions could NOT have been better for me. Cool crisp 50° air, good traction and having both Jimmy and his lead tech Kenny; watching, observing, making recommendations and supporting me. They told me what to do and I delivered.

(STAND on the throttle and then leave. Build up the boost! Don't short shift. Run it to 8000 rpm.) Best 60' times Ive ever had. Three times in the 1.6's. 17.5 lbs boost. 93 oct pump gas only.

Anyway, I'll compile the vids over the weekend. I lost a day at work, so tomorrow I'll be too busy.

Once we did the FIRST 11.13, they did what they could to see if we could knock 14 hundredths of of that, but it was already maxed with this combo. I know what it will take to go tens, when the time comes. Gears and a different torque converter.

VQ's making it happen!

Wow!!!

Congratulation.
Unbelievable times/60', especially with the extra weight. Got to try a cool night this Spring. Are they open tomorrow? Next week?

Red__Zed 12-14-2012 07:39 PM

Nice runs coop! You're knocking on the door of 10s

chuckd05 12-15-2012 04:42 AM

Good luck.

Mr&Mrs 12-15-2012 05:04 AM

Awesome times! That is a killer 60' time also.

Z eliminator 12-15-2012 08:38 AM

great times. do you have a bar in your car , or are they letting you run with out one ?

SharpByCoop 12-15-2012 09:46 AM

YOu can get away with much more on a private rented track day. There were at least four GTR's in the low nines. None of them had chutes, and some not even roll cages.

That's why they go on those days. Pay your $200 and have at it.

Running on Bridgestone RE-11 305/30/19

My first three runs where 3.38, 3.37 and 3.38. Running 25psi Those where the best, after that I tried adjusting by lowering tire pressure to see if I could get sub .2 60' times, but they just got worse and I forgot to bring the air pump. Went a couple of times at 22psi, and my 60' where 2.3/2.4 had horrible wheel hop and worst times (13.6/13.8), seems these tires like more air.

Track temperature was around 75F, I'm still not pleased with my trapping speed, fully bolted and tuned, removed (Spare tire, jack, etc..)

There was one run where i trapped higher 13.38@ 105.31, 60' 2.16.
what you guys think??

You've moved up to #16

Congrats coop nice time really good 60 foot your car is getting off the line good . It will be interesting to see how your car does with a better torque converter, your moving through the 1/8 mile 99 mph top end its dying some .

You will be the first I have ever heard of going with 4.08 gears in any g or z that's turbo that's really short good job:tup:

I will join you in the spring at the track for some friendly competition
