official 1/4 mile track times

It's a work in progress. Pretty much went through the entire 1/4 mile times thread and pulled all the times. I've only posted the times from members with time slips or PM'ed me a copy of a time slip. If you would like me to add your time or make a correction to yours, just post here or shoot me a PM.

In the PM please include:
YEAR
BASE OR TOURING
SPORT OR NON
6MT OR 7AT
MODS
TIME SLIP

I've got a question for everyone:

How strict do we want to be with the "STOCK" class? 100% stock? stock with different street tires? stock with an oil cooler? stock with K&N drop in filters?

The problem is, where would we draw the line?

m4a1mustang 05-16-2011 09:54 PM

Stock should be 100% stock motor with street tires (no drag radials or slicks). If possible list the brand and model tire used.

Btw, nice list. Thanks for doing this. Repped.

B996 05-16-2011 10:03 PM

We should make this a sticky... Awesome post

98intrigue 05-16-2011 11:38 PM

Awesome job, Ray!

Stock should be 100% bone stock.

Nismo221 05-17-2011 12:04 AM

Great thread. And agree stock should be 100% stock. But I guess I dont see where oil coolers matter.

chuckd05 05-17-2011 12:16 AM

nice... I like this...

that forced induction section looks kinda empty... http://smiliesftw.com/x/whateva.gif

now that i think about it, i believe someone with a TT ran some times a few months back. (searching)

Z eliminator 05-17-2011 07:02 AM

Coming soon GTM Stage 2 SC . 470 rwhp on stock exhaust and cats. ( G37 )
I see alot more power in the kit
11.2 to 11.3's

You're right. IIRC they were in the 11s at around ~120 mph.

jnaut 05-17-2011 08:35 AM

Yea, iirc he went 11.9 on a gtm tt

Re: the 7AT debate, aside from the already-mentioned issues about drivetrain losses (the 6MT wins on that obviously), and the fact that the 6MT has a better stock rear-end ratio, one of the major reasons the 7AT does well among amateur drag racers on street tires is the fact that it has a Torque Convertor (like all ATs).

The presence of the torque convertor makes it much easier to get a smooth, fast launch compared to the intricacies of launching a 6MT. The torque convertor multiplies the engine's torque to the wheels (sort of like having a higher gear ratio in the rear end) dynamically when the engine speed exceeds the spin rate at the wheels temporarily during launch. You get less wheel slip and more immediate takeoff power.

One_Quick_Z 05-17-2011 05:01 PM

YAY we finally got this going!

BTW my stock time was a 13.33 I will post actual slip for that time, also my new modified time will soon be lower :)

Z eliminator 05-17-2011 05:36 PM

The great transmsion debate.
We need to get a few things straight about My 7 AT.
1. I have 4.08 gears
2 I have a 2700 rpm GTM torque converter big difference over stock
3. I have a Moterdyne intake madifold
4 My car with me in it is 3372 lbs.
5. I have every bolts on that there is
6. I ram more air into my stillen G3 intake.
7. it also has skinney front tires, 305 35 18 drag radials and 2 piece racing brake rotors
8. there is no passenger seat in the car.
9. i have a racing seat but no seatbelts for it yet car will then be 3350 lbs.
10. i run a very agressive Cobb map in the car on 94 octane + lucas octane booster
11. the timing has been advanced by 2 degress.
12. I also now how to launch my car and shift it in the MM and not redline it or hit the limiter 8100 rpm.
13. the line lock is being installed and i need new back brake pads so that i can launch at 2800 to 3000 rpm.
14. I now am swithcing to the uprev where i can ajust the line preasure in the tranney

12.42 is a very fast time. The only car that is quicker is J nauts 6 mt. I can a sure you that his car is very light and has more mods, and power than mine.
If you look at the 1/4 mile formulas you will see that it take 347.5 RWHP to run a 3372 lb car down the 1/4 mile in 12.42.
My best dyno pull was 322 rwhp.
Im almost 1/2 second faster than the next closet 7 AT. except fot J's car there is not a 6 MT close to mine.
When I get my GTM VB it will shift a lot quicker. The only bad delay is 4th to 5th it take's 0.68 seconds compared to the 0.31 shift time of the other gears. Just reducing the shift time in 5th to .48 will put me at 12.28. with GTM's fulley built 7 AT (coming soon ) i can see a my car running 12.0 to 12.1's.
I also trap at 114.37 mph.
If it improves the other gear shift times it will even have a lower time.
My bone stock time is 13.201.
Its not fair to compare my car and J nauts car to other 370 's.
they are both done to the 9's.
When you drag race the weather has a lot to do with your times
a really hot night and you will slow down.
There is a down fall to the 7 AT. if your driving at 60mph and you floor it . It take's forever for it to drop a gear an boggey.
I also own a 2003 5 AT 350 z with a stillen SC pushing 10.5 lbs boost.with high speed stall and a VB in it with 3.353 gears. up to 60 mph the car is really quick.
both cars have the same problem at 60 mph, floor it and nothing happens. There had been no improvment in either tranny.
The 7 AT shifts fster than the 5 AT.
the 350z is about to become a really fast car as i have a GTM 4.2 stroker with a wolf 850 ttbb for it coupled to a speed force built 5 AT.
Getting back to the debate. I can tell you that nothing takes my 370z off the line. It lightning quick.
Im going to the track this monday and hopefully it will go faster.
If you let me drive a stock 7 AT and run a stock 6 MT i will beat it in the 1/4 mile .
the whole secret is knowing your car no mater what tranney is in it.
J naut has a really fast car, just look what the closest 6 MT is to his time. he has done his home work and his time slip proves it.
Z

Nismo221 05-17-2011 06:45 PM

Well said Z eliminator!

Why does everyone get caught up in this AT vs MT. Do you people not understand any MT can be built and beat an AT. Just like any AT can be built to stomp the hell out of an MT. It depends on the build. But more important it depends on the driver and what the know, feel comfortable, and enjoy driving. So everyone just drop it and remember we all drive Zs. And we are here to help everyone enjoy and gett the most out of the car they picked to drive.

But question for Z Eliminator, the line lock you talked about is where you can select just the front brakes to lock right? And I'm assuming you can turn it off before launch. If so would this be safe to install on a daily driver and about how much does it run.

DarkZide 05-17-2011 07:22 PM

The people with S/C kits and TT kits really need to get to the track. The hell is the point of spending 10k to go faster if you don't see how much faster you are going.

b1adesofcha0s 05-17-2011 07:29 PM

I love this thread idea tranceformer! Although I liked it better when I thought I had the fastest stock time :roflpuke2:

About the whole AT vs MT thing, I was with a friend who had a 6 MT 370Z the day I went to the drag strip. His best time was like a 13.2. He told me that his 60 ft time was similar to mine on my best run, but it was later on that my car went ahead.

Yeah, with a line-lock you generally just hit your brakes, flip a switch and a solenoid engages. You can then release your brakes, but the fluid pressure is maintained on the front brakes. Makes warming/cleaning your tires a lot easier, and less wear/tear on your brakes.

Most likely it is based on the different shift points. You are shifting your car at a better point than he is. Remember when you find something that works repeat it everytime. That is the hardest part of drag racing. I dont have much car drag racing experience but I have been drag racing motorcycles since i was 16.

I've only ever had 4 runs all on that one day. My best time was my first run ever at a drag strip :bowrofl:

Would like to go back though and try to beat my time. Maybe in the fall when the temperatures cool down. I'm gonna actually try adjusting tire pressure and maybe take the spare tire out too.

Z eliminator 05-17-2011 07:48 PM

great write up on the line lock. The only hard part is getting metric to standard fittings for thte soliniods. Im waiting for 1 fitting.
It makes it a lot easy to do burn outs and heat up the back tire's
Please not there is no advantage to heating up stock street tire in a burnout,
Z

GZ3 05-18-2011 10:22 AM

nicely done

I think the stock category should be ok to include an oil cooler, but nothing else! paper filter, stock tires....as far as modified i think it should read "bolt ons" that was no one can throw built motors n stuff like that in the mix

wstar 05-18-2011 10:37 AM

Yeah the classification stuff is tough to ever get right though. What about extreme weight reduction? Stripping all the interior, the passenger seat, etc? There's going to be a huge amount of variance in the N/A modified "bolt-on" class based on how far people go.

I heard Jnaut is driving an FI car down the track soon ;)

Has there been any incidents of axle shafts going, or pumpkins blowing up yet? Or has nobody really even hooked on a high-HP build yet?

You'd better bust out some sick videos of you running great times and cutting some amazing 60's in a stock 350Z. Right now, all you're doing is talk talk talking, with absolutely nothing to back it up.

For the record, Ive done my time at the drag strip. I found it boring as hell, and a waste of money. I was decent at launching, but hardly amazing. That doesnt mean I dont know the mechanics of it, not to mention the limitations inherent to a stock car (MT or AT).

So let me guess - every single review of the 370 that said the 7AT was slightly quicker in the 1/4th...they were all wrong, then? All shitty drivers? Again, I'll say: wheres YOUR credentials proving you're god of the MT launch with the 370? You're making a lot of statements about two cars, neither of which you've taken to the strip. Ever.

You crack ME up, coming onto a board with your e-penis hanging out, calling people dense and making claims to skill with no proof to back it up. Stop trying to make yourself feel better, thinking we're getting our chests all puffed out - Im just here to remind you, you've brought NOTHING to this table other than your own arrogant attitude. While Im confident you COULD bring something to the table as far as information goes, you bring nothing here other than insults and trolling. That proves to me that all you wanted to do here was ruffle some feathers and piss some 370 drivers off. Try to be less transparent the next time you troll.

:iagree:

Well said. + rep for you sir :tiphat:

None that I've heard. A little bird told me someone blew up a stock clutch in a non fi car, but no axles as of yet. So far the fastest time I think is that GTM TT with the 11.9

Thats pretty impressive. Then again, I dont think I'll be too impressed until some low-11 or high-10's happen, and they survive a really good hook...

i would like to just bring up something kind of ironic. Its pretty often that people compare similar cars like a mustang vs a camaro or w/e people say 'its a drivers race,' meaning that the difference between the times of the two cars are so insignificant that the skill of the driver and the choices he makes while driving are going to impact the race more than the physical car its self. There are stock mustangs that have beaten stock camaros, and stock camaro's that have beaten mustangs, and those are two different cars, and i'm sure ONE is most definitely 'faster' from the factory. Yet with our stupid 1/4 mile time debate between AT and MT people get so hung up on a 10th of a second and make it seem like its this insurmountable difference and that no matter what the 7at will be faster.

so i fail to see how when comparing two similar cars it can come down to being a 'driver's race' however when comparing the SAME car 370z MT vs 370z AT, it's somehow impossible for the 6mt to pull a better time. I hope everyone is happy with their transmission choice, but if you got a 7at just because it pulls a better trap time in motor trend i think you're pretty foolish. if the 6mt pulled a better trap time and you hated driving stick but just got 6mt because it was faster in a 1/4 mile i would say you are equally foolish.

alberto is pretty damn good driver, i dont doubt that he can turn some good number in a 6mt 370, he was one of the best over at the 350 boards just an fyi
