We're gooners. Everybody is a stud if you've been through what we've been through.

did you watch the same game I watched against Panama? the guy sparked numerous attacks down the left flank, beat quite a few defenders with pace and actually sent in some decent crosses, not to mention completely shut down the left side of the pitch and stuffed more than one attack. I was surprised and impressed with what I've seen.

Red370 06-24-2011 04:27 PM

if we really signed this kid, i'd say we've got a bargin for the amount of quality I can see here, looks like he'll fit in well with our attacking style. It's amazing how much pace this dude has as tall as he is, his touch and ball control are superb. I also like that he's left footed.

I was just giving you **** for calling him a "stud" lol. Btw Landon Donovan is a bro

“No competitor ever likes to start on the bench, so if anyone says that to you they’re lying to you,” Donovan said. “For me personally, fortunately I don’t get paid to make those decisions. But what’s important for me is not when I play, where I play, how many minutes I’m playing, it’s that I’m effective when I do play.”

Red370 06-26-2011 08:39 AM

I hope they CAN Bob Bradley for that effort. 2-Nil up and you lose the game, reminds me of Newcastle last season. Terrible.

phelan 06-26-2011 01:37 PM

yep. definitely brought back memories of that meltdown game .

Jon@AAMComp 06-27-2011 10:17 AM

US Soccer lol. One step forward, two massive steps back. Agreed Red, Bradley has to go.

Should've signed Klinsmann when we had the chance. That little pint sized shit Gulati needs to go as well. As a matter of fact, the enter US Soccer federation needs to resign, all to blame for the shitty lack of youth developmental programs in our country.

Takashi Usami confirms he's on loan to Bayern. That will be fun to watch, I'll have someone to root for in Munich for once!

You know what really gets me? The J-League is in DIRE need of financial restructuring. Look at the Japanese players that are leaving J1 for greener pastures. Kagawa, Nagatomo, Usami will officially depart soon, Abe, etc. There's a LOT to like about many of the Japanese players. It's made even better because those transfers don't amount to more than 1 million euros because the J-League financial transfer rules don't let them make any more cash! It's ridiculous!

The J-League will NEVER grow as long as they can't bring in big name talent, or have the flexibility to be involved in a 'big name signing'. It pains me to see it just static, kind of an academy for the big leagues, especially the Bundesliga and Serie A!

Oh, and River Plate falling. Never thought I'd see that happen, they're one of the constants, kind of like the big 3 (4?) in the EPL. Amazing how things can change.

In other news: Ricardo Alvarez doesnt like it when people make him angry.

N. Korea was actually considered to be one of the dark horses of the tournament and they gave the women all they could handle, I actually think its a pretty good result. Definitely an improved second half.

phelan 06-28-2011 02:59 PM

i only saw bits and pieces of the game. is the US really playing more of a possession-style game this tournament?

they started out careless w/ long balls from the backs in the first half, really sloppy in possession, obviously nervous start being that its the first match of the cup. They calmed down dramatically in the second half, played better balls and were linking up the short passes much better, so yes, I guess you could say that they played possession ball. The left side of the defense in the first half was being terrorized, so i'm assuming that some tactical decisions were made at the half because the attack on that side fizzled out for the N.Koreans. They'll only get better from here, pretty good confidence building match.

New FIFA World Rankings :

1 Spain (May's position: 1st)

2 Holland (2nd)

3 Germany (4th)

4 England (6th)

5 Brazil (3rd)

6 Italy (9th)

7 Portugal (8th)

8 Croatia (10th)

9 Mexico (28th)

10 Argentina (5th)

No France? England 4th best team in the WORLD??? Croatia??

phelan 06-29-2011 02:25 PM

France got punked in the World Rankings b/c admit it, they fell apart BIG TIME at the World Cup. Not surprised, really. What is surprising is England on top of Brazil WTF?!

Argentina 10th?????? Behind MEXICO?! Tell me you'd want a team with Chicharito and Dos Santos over Higuain and Messi with a straight face.

cow 06-29-2011 02:33 PM

I was going to make a video saying that with a straight face, but it was too much effort.

England fell apart in the World Cup. They're not even performing that well in Euros either. Love England, but still don't see how they're ranked 4th above Brazil and Argentina.

And on that Argentina side, there's not just Higuain and Messi. Let's not forget Cambiasso, Pastore, Zanetti, Heinze, and Javier Mascherano. Argentina have a great team, I'm excited to see what they can do in Copa America.

cow 06-29-2011 03:51 PM

& Jonas Gutierrez

Red370 06-29-2011 08:26 PM

France not ranked? they've been playing quite well of late, bit of a shocker there. Mexico in the top 10? no.

blue660r01 06-29-2011 09:39 PM

LOL @ Mexico in the top 10

Red370 07-02-2011 06:45 PM

In other news, been contemplating buying the new Predators... wondering if they're worth $200... colors suck right now, hopefully they'll come out with some black/red ones

I find myself surprisingly sad about Clichy's departure. Even though he was prone to inexplicable error, he tried harder than just about anyone else & never was injured unlike EVERYONE else.

phelan 07-04-2011 03:35 PM

It's weird how three Invincibles are now employed by the Citizens. sigh.

cow 07-04-2011 10:22 PM

Agreed.

phelan 07-06-2011 08:49 AM

Going to be really hard to recognize the Gunners next year if all the rumours are true and we lose Cesc/Nas/Arsh/Walcott

cow 07-06-2011 09:15 AM

I tend to be super skeptical of the British (& European) media. I'll be sad when people actually leave.

phelan 07-06-2011 12:16 PM

sounds like Gervinho is about to make his move complete. in for medical.

we're also back in for downing...but WTF why can't we go for baines?

blue660r01 07-06-2011 02:18 PM

Arsenal needs to start all over

Jon@AAMComp 07-06-2011 02:32 PM

Keep those transfers coming!

Coentrao to Real Madrid:

Real Madrid sign Fabio Coentrao from Benfica ? Portuguese Primeira Liga Update | bettor.com

^I'm actually excited to see what he does at Madrid. One of my favorite players to watch these past few years. In my opinion, Coentrao and Ashely Cole are probably the best left backs in professional football today. Coentrao at left back, with Sergio Ramos at right back, with Pepe and Carvalho in the center should make for a more watertight defense for Real next season. Key word being, 'should'.

Charlie Adam to Merseyside:

Liverpool agree fee for Charlie Adam with Blackpool - Telegraph

What's next? Modric to Chelsea?? Sneijder to United?

phelan 07-06-2011 02:36 PM

Yea, Marcelo didn't exactly inspire me with confidence lol
