Jesus christ, we're linked with everybody, I dont remember the speculations EVER being this bad during the transfer windows of the past, I remember that most reports of the past linking players proved to be true but this shit is getting ridiculous.

-Gervinho
-Samba
-Sakho
-Cahill
-Matuidi
-Hazard
-Falcao
-Dude from Velez Sarsfield
-Chamberlain
-Martin
-Dann

anyone care to add to Arsenals next big signing?

phelan 06-10-2011 08:47 PM

I don't know sh*t about the last four, except Dann, who is a massive c*nt. hahahaah

We're also linked with losing Clichy, Fabregas, AND Nasri. Good god.

cow 06-11-2011 08:00 PM

I'm watching the Gold Cup match (0-2 USA at half to the fighting Noriegas-- lame). What happened to Herculez Gomez? Agudelo looks a good player, but Gomez was getting massive love last summer.

Red370 06-11-2011 09:02 PM

Panama. US is crap.

cow 06-11-2011 09:06 PM

The commentator made a good point in saying the USMNT seems to enjoy the pressure of coming back from being down & never bosses a match from the start.

Back to my Gomez question, I wonder if the US suffers from a lack of continuity. It seems there's a new guy or four every time I watch the team play. When I watch Espana in a real match, I know exactly who'll be on the field. It seems the US team is always searching for the right fit.

It always amuses me that with a country 10 times the size of most, we manage to field a hodgepodge group of kickball players. But man we can play some basketball like a motherfvcker!

Red370 06-11-2011 09:27 PM

we need to fire Gulati and Bob Bradley and just hire the entire Arsenal youth academy staff.

We've been plagued with terrible forwards for years now. Altidore is about as lethal as a kitten. Aguedelo is the next big thing, but he's too young, and needs more experience. Where the US excels is the midfield, with Dempsey rampaging and Donovan pulling all of the strings, while Bradley theoretically is the defensive support. But really, other than Timmy H in between the sticks, the USMNT doesn't have a lot of solid positions. Cherundolo is next after the EPL guys, but you can only do so much from the RB position.

This is key. In the United States, kids come up aspiring to be professional Basketball, Football or Baseball players. No one really takes soccer seriously in this country from a young age, which is what European and South American nations have on us. When you're young in this country, kids may play soccer recreationally, but its never really taken seriously. For young men in the US, soccer is often viewed as not being masculine. I know I used to be made fun of because I played soccer in HS. I was literally harassed by football, basketball and track players at my school for playing soccer. It's unfortunate, really. Until football(soccer) is ingrained in this country's culture as deeply as any of the other big sports (football, baseball, basketball, hockey, lacrosse), this country will never be competitive on the world's stage.

I really hope for his sake these quotes were taken out of context:

The No.7 shirt and captain’s armband.

A guarantee that he will *always be the club’s highest paid player.

Before even playing on the team he wants the captain's armband?? Always be the club's highest paid player? This is so unfortunate because Ronaldo is supremely talented. Regardless of talent level though, no one player is ever bigger than the club. Period. Messi isn't bigger than Barcelona, Rooney isn't bigger than United. This arrogance from Ronaldo is part of the reason why Fergie let him leave United. Fergie will never let any one player think themselves to be bigger than the club. Not Becks, Cantona, Giggs, and not Ronaldo. Based on this article, it's evident from this article he feels he is too good to play for a lowly Premier League side like City, and he wants a king's ransom to come back to the Premiership. To him, Cristiano Ronaldo is bigger than Manchester City. This only adds pressure on himself and he will be expected to deliver titles to Eastlands. Again, I hope for his sake, he said this jokingly to a friend and it was taken out of context and the story is being blown out of proportion.

On a side note, part of the reason I admire Leo Messi so much is because of his incredibly humble and grounded attitude. Messi is never in the papers, never claims himself to be the best ever or anything of the sort. He just goes on playing his football, winning titles, and leaving our jaws attached to the floor. World Class on and off the field.

phelan 06-13-2011 10:34 AM

Messi has thankfully stayed out of the Cesc saga :rofl2:

But yes he is one of the most humble superstars you can find, and lets his game speak for him. Best analogy to the NBA would be Kevin Durant.

Cristiano Ronaldo  ughhh never liked him when he was in the EPL, and he still can't carry RM past Barca...someone remind me why he thinks he's the Messiah to football?

Red370 06-13-2011 12:56 PM

welp, dunno how accurate this is, but if its true, looks like we've made our first major signing of the transfer season, and having a 6'4 CB is a step in the right direction.

 he'd be great in the Arsenal midfield. his form is a bit down right now, so it might be a good time to test CSKA Moscow's resolve to keep Keisuke. It'd be one of the best signings we could make, plenty of creativity, solid work rate, and ranks up there as a big name signing we're all clamoring for. The pecking order would probably put him behind Fabregas and Nasri, and just in front of Ramsey. Can probably play out wide as well, and provides us another option when RvP's radar is off (it's getting worse for Robin!)

It doesn't really address our main issues yet, though.

Not gonna lie, I havent seen much of him, not even so much as a YT compilation, but if AW is serious when he claims that he wont let Fab or Nasri go this summer, he might just be surplus to needs. Our midfield is stupid deep, ridiculous almost, however, if Fab goes, he'll slot in nicely.

Now the rumor i'd like to see materialize is the one about Hazard. Some say he's an ideal replacement for Nasri, fvck that. Nasri stays. However, he's been playing out of position all season long, hes a natural attacking midfielder, the slot Fab's been sucking up. If Fab goes, Nasri takes the center and Hazard (natural winger) takes his old spot. Wenger, Gazidis, Kroenke, everybody, has been talking up this "summer of spending and experience" blah blah blah. If they're going to make good on their claims, it has to mean that we've already spoken to these players perspective clubs and have at least made verbal agreements to sign big name players.

Now imagine this... Barca claim to have a 40 mil transfer kitty. Wenger seems more and more willing to allow Fab to leave and I have a feeling that if Barca throw the cash and add a player (Thiago or someone else of that mold), he'll go. Love me some Fab, but hes pretty much already gone IMHO. Now, when I think of the claimed money we have to spend (60 mil euros), plus whatever Fab brings, we'll have more than enough to prise Benz from RM, buy Cahill and Samba, Hazard, and a proven striker to partner RvP. Now, when I think this, i become giddy. To be entirely honest, if the signings go through, if we were to take anything less than a double, it would be a complete travesty to the organization. I'm just ready for AW to put the rumors to bed and announce some concrete evidence that we have world class talent coming in.

Yeah I haven't seen this Ramos story anywhere else. The Sun, Mirror, Telegraph. This would be massive.

phelan 06-14-2011 11:50 AM

(arsenal related)Gervinho is odds on for the first big signing of Arsenal's summer, supposedly. I remain skeptical of a guy who comes from Ligue 1 to survive in the EPL. He won't get the same kind of spacing afforded to him in the French game. It'll be Chamakh all over again...and I do hope Chamakh does well next year. He played brilliantly for a while, so I know he has it in him!

If Gervinho shows up, I'm sure Hazard will stay at Lille. I doubt the champs are quite ready to completely gut their team just before next year's UCL. Hazard can still learn with Lille. (/arsenal related)

Jon - what's this I hear about Modric to Chelsea in a trade for Drogs????? Has Roman completely lost his mind? You don't even have a manager yet!!

wtf...Schweinsteiger to Serie A? :wtf2:

Jon@AAMComp 06-14-2011 02:15 PM

I thought Schweini already dedicated himself to Bayern for 4 years? I hope he stays in Germany honestly, its becoming more and more rare to see a player start and finish their career at one club. I would like him to stay at Bayern.

And Roman is off his head. Drogz should not be allowed to leave.

Agree with many points of this. If we can get Vertonghen and either Gervinho or Falcao, and hold onto our offensive line of Theo van Nasregas, I will be VERY happy.

Red370 06-14-2011 10:01 PM

My God. US=Garbage. Wasnt even worthy of a top 50 ranking, Guadeloupe, really? BB:gtfo2:

Worst US team I think i've ever seen.

phelan 06-15-2011 12:28 AM

Wondolowski is hopelessly bad right now. But typically the USMNT struggles when Dempsey struggles. That's my main issue with the team right now, it's too reliant on Dempsey to pull something out of nothing. Donovan can usually play the creative role as well, but he's more of the steady influence through the game.

And Altidore...I know he's doing alright for now, but for all that's holy we need a second striker to step up before Jozy uses up all of his emergency goal rations :rofl2:

Jon@AAMComp 06-15-2011 08:47 AM

Donovan is shite, I never understood what all the hype was about. Is he a decent player in MLS? Sure, because he's playing in MLS. Didn't work in Germany, was average at best at Everton, so why are we so excited about him?

In my opinion, Dempsey is a much better player than Donovan. He's more than proven his worth at Fulham, and shown his quality on the international level. It's a shame he isn't paired with Stu Holden in midfield more often. I guess daddy want's to see his shite son playing on the field more than the team actually being competitive. The Men's National team is a joke, and it starts with the manager. And Jozy Altidore has been nightmare American fans can't wake up from. The only bright spots on the field are Clint Dempsey, Tim Howard in goal, Bocanegra, Spector, and Cherundolo in defense. Unfortunately, the rest of the field, rather, the BUSINESS end of the field is horribly average.

phelan 06-15-2011 10:37 AM

I disagree slightly about Donovan, I think he's an okay player, and I suppose we get worked up over him because he is basically the face of the MLS. I thought he contributed decently at Everton, maybe an above average loan, and he ended well in getting the goal against..er...I forget, but he scored in his last game. But I agree that he's in over his head if people expect him to be an almost European product. He doesn't have the skill to make it long term in the European leagues. Like I said, Dempsey is the heart and soul of this team, and Howard / Cherundolo / Bocanegra the spine.

It's a problem if the spine is ACROSS the defensive line, though. Ugh. "Don't tread on me" means nothing to the USMNT if we have no bite to our offense, and eventually Dempsey won't be there to bail us out.

I agree about Stu Holden, but isn't he injured right now? I think the way he played for Bolton, he'd be a shoo in over Bradley who couldn't get a game to save his life. But circumstances are dictating it?

Watching Wondolowski miss sitter after sitter after sitter makes even MY confidence go down. His must be almost rock bottom at this point.

Also - Arsenal, F*CK you. http://arsenaldirect.arsenal.com/125...ox/invt/a9673/

shadoquad 06-15-2011 01:18 PM

Honestly, I think Landon Donavon is very talented, but I think his age is catching up with him.

He performed ably at the last World Cup, although I agree that Dempsey may be better while being more soft-spoken.

blue660r01 06-15-2011 01:21 PM

Their styles are totally different and they both are very talented. Each player gives the team something big and whichever one is having an off night effects the team very negatively lets leave it at that.
