Espana looked fantastic today.

I've been noticing some sports articles coming out lately about how soccer is gaining popularity. For the game's sake, I hope that's true.

I'm looking forward to the World Cup. Love it. |
Giants stadium sold out last year when Chelsea came to play the MLS all stars, its crazy how popular european teams are here and how unpopular our own league is.
|
I need to start going to the local games and watch our team.
|
I wish I had a local team to support.
|
I think if MLS would stop trying to ride the coattails of the more popular sport leagues here, (NFL, NBA, MLB), and stop attempting to create what they think would be popular among American people and create a league that mirrors the more popular leagues of the world, EPL, Primera, Serie A, the game would gain a strong following here.
1. Cut out that stupid bullshyt playoff system, not one league in the world does this. 2. Eliminate the conferences and create a single table with a point system 3. Eliminate the stupid salary cap and allow teams to actually spend money on big name players 4. Create youth academies to spurn talent at the club level 5. Give more thought to team names, really? FC Dallas? New York Red Bull? what a joke. 6. Stop playing games at rented american football stadiums and build your own park 7. Invite more european teams to play friendlies here on American soil 8. Create lower division leagues for teams to be relegated and promoted to should they not be up to par 9. Oh yeah, ensure each referee is FIFA licensed, MLS is an extremely dangerous league to play in, while this may be good to some, it puts players careers in jeopardy, if there is a foul, make the gawddamn call. I'm sick and tired of watching a foul fest when i'd much rather see more beautiful flowing football. |
Ready and waiting for Friday, one month of soccer will fill my DVR.

That is the biggest issue right there... The sports is what 100 years old... as in the competition level of World Cup etc... 1930 i believe was the first cup... won by Uruguay. But I know they won two other ones previous to those when it was an Olympic sport, before the concept of the world cup was made...and the FIFA later gave them the wins as a world cup... hence why Uruguay has 4 stars. I always though Argentina just gave them their two stars. Anyways.. when you try and change a sport with world wide recognition it goes horribly wrong.... I was going to keep typing something but got distracted with some cool info. 1930 World Cup official ball: http://www.soccerballworld.com/images/Ball1930WC.JPG 2010 World Cup official ball: http://u.goal.com/62600/62642_news.jpg 1930's United states Team who actually made it to the Semi-Finals... Guess they played better through the great depression. http://www.soccerballworld.com/images/photo014.jpg Back Row: Left to Right: Bob Millar (Coach), Jimmy Gallagher, Alexander Wood, Jimmy Douglas, George Moorhouse, Ralph Tracy, Andy Auld, Jack Coll (Physician). i call BS on maradona being the best player in history. |
Agreed Phelan. Ronaldo is the best WC player.
|
Ronaldo??? Really??/ I would go as far as saying MAYBE Pele... but Ronaldo??? come on... that ranks up there with people did not land on the moon.

'Orignial' Ronaldo was a scoring machine.
|
I'd agree with Ronaldo, honestly. I'd throw in Zidane as well, but that'd be discounting the entire French team's poor performance in 2002 (in which Zidane was injured, but on the field for two matches).
In other news, my Ribery France kit came in today. I hope I won't regret buying it lol. |

lol I kind of want an Iniesta or Fabregas Espana strip. I figure I've got four more years of rocking jerseys & then at 30 I need to reassess things.

Love or hate Maradona, as far as on-the-field-in-World-Cup play, it's hard to pick anyone above Diego.
It's either Pele or Maradona, then arguments can be made for other people. |
So my Ribery kit I ordered is #22, his number in the 2006 World Cup. Only problem is, he's now #7.
Whoops. |
I emailed Eurosport & asked if they would fix the screwup (I ordered like Saturday, after the rosters were announced) & they offered me a refund on everything but the customization since I "chose" #22.
I decided to say "**** it" & ordered #7 & keep #22 for the lol's. |
Thats cool they offered a refund though.
|
Yeah. I was hoping they'd be like "Hey, this guy's spent thousands of dollars over the years with us, let's give it to him for free."
But uh, yeah, they didn't do that. |
I've got like fifteen or so jerseys from Eurosport throughout the years, along with ten or so pairs of boots, & then various other things. I bet, in all, I've spent over $3500 there.
& I just got a bit sick. Brb, going vomit. |
whoa.. they didn't include Ronaldinho for the Brazil final team? WTF? :wtf: this ruins the whole world cup 2010 for me! Is this true? I was looking forward to seeing his plays on this world cup! dam it! He is my most favorite player! Fail Brazil for not including him, big time! :shakes head:
Edit: NO Roberto Carlos either . Maybe they (Brazil) should just stay home and not bother with this whole world cup thing! |
Blame Dunga.
Ronaldinho left out of Brazil squad - FIFA World Cup 2010 - ESPN Soccernet Long story short, Ronnie let his form dip over the last few years, until this year when he had a pretty good season. Dunga (the Brazilian coach) decided to stick with the players who had gotten the team through qualification & retain chemistry rather than bringing Ronaldinho back into the fold. World Cup organizers chide Brazil for Ronaldinho omission |

This is NOT cool. Oh well I got an excuse to buy new ones :excited: Quote:
Considering what your last name is...You should be rootin for Germany anyways  |
I need to take a picture of my boots to show you. They're pretty rad.
I'll do that some time tomorrow. |
Mine are these. Had them a while. All gold with a silver swoosh though...
