Just finished my bracket on ESPN. Before everyone comes in with the torches, look at the bracket, then read my explanation, haha!

I picked Spain to win, because as far as I know they're the only team in which all their most successful footballers are still fit enough to be competitive(with the exception of Torres who might still be questionable). To me, the Spaniards are the most "complete" team in the tournament. Starting from the back, Iker Casillas is arguably the one of the best keepers in the world. Even though his club fell a bit short to Barca in La Liga this season, to me, he is still one of the top 3 keepers in Europe. Their defense is both experienced and extremely stingy, like the Italian defense that helped Italy win the last tournament. Puyol, Sergio Ramos, Pique, and Capdevilla. Hows that for a back four? 3 out of the 4 of those players play in top form at the biggest clubs in the world, and all are capable of getting forward and scoring goals. Their midfield is probably the strongest attribute, and they possess the ball and control the pace of the game like no other team on earth. Combine Iniesta, Xavi, Hernandez, Alonso; these are world-class midfielders. Up front they have a deadly one-two combination of David Villa and Fernando Torres, both vital goal-scorers for their respective clubs of Valencia and Liverpool.

I think they'll finally overcome the defeats of previous cups. They'll finally bring the cup to Spain.

And yes, I picked the US to upset the Germans in the second round. There has to be at least one upset in during the cup, and I think that could be it!

Good opening game. I was really hoping SA would win, but the result was absolutely fair.

Chupacabra 06-11-2010 11:26 AM

I had Mexico 2-1 over RSA..... could have won $5 but guess the gods are not with me....

South Africa was the better team for sure.

Viera 06-11-2010 11:40 AM

I'm happy with the result, though I wanted SA to win.

Diego Forlan + shaky defense = me nervous

Here we go. I'll check back at halftime.

cow 06-11-2010 02:21 PM

Satisfied with the first half.

Wicked_G 06-11-2010 02:26 PM

^^^Meh. I’m nervous. Uruguay came prepared:excited:

phelan 06-11-2010 02:27 PM

2nd half substitution to bring on henry? *ponders*

ribery looked like he was trying to cut every which way, but uruguay kept swarming him. if uruguay could actually hold the damn ball they'd be doing better.

blue660r01 06-11-2010 02:35 PM

got a feeling Ur a gay might win this

blue660r01 06-11-2010 03:03 PM

phelan 06-11-2010 03:27 PM

cow 06-11-2010 03:29 PM

Awful match. Henry was lively-- glad he came on, but I would've liked Anelka on too.

blue660r01 06-11-2010 03:29 PM

At least we have USA and England tomorrow

Chriz 06-11-2010 03:53 PM

Some good D from Uraguay at the end

Red370 06-11-2010 03:55 PM

What an abysmal performance by the french today, where was Ribery? did he come to work today? As far as the South Africa/Mexico match goes, good game overall, I felt the S. Africans deserved a penalty, but I think both teams will be pleased with the result.

I agree with Chris, I want my 90 minutes back.

Man, watching the "highlights" of France's match, they were really unlucky to score early on (Govou missed a sitter after a Ribery ball across goal & then Gourcuff had that really nice free kick). I'd kind of forgotten that after the ugly second half.

Yeah, I was actually kinda shocked to see how Scarface and Gourcuff played in this game, way worse than their usual standards. I kinda wish Gignac started the game, he came in and gave the Guayos some trouble in the few minutes he was in there. And as much as I hate to admit it, Henry is starting to show is age.

cow 06-11-2010 11:00 PM

Toulalan & I are the same age. I thought he was like 38.

blue660r01 06-11-2010 11:13 PM

Yeah, Korea looked sharp, no surprise with me really, they just seemed to out endure the Greeks, they never seemed to tire.
