I know alot of people recommend a lightweight flywheel. I personally do not recommend this rout...I went with a lightweight flywheel and didnt notice enough of a change in throttle response to justify the slight decrease in driveability. it amplified the already bad chatter out of these transmission input shafts. I kept the original flywheel and always debated swapping back but i hate working on transmissions so i just lived with it. I loved the test pipes and catback exhaust setup i had. not loud at all and very noticeable gains up top. and the best mod was a stiffer stage 1 clutch and stainless steel clutch line.

I agree completely. I felt the exact same way when I swapped the flywheel out in my WRX. I regretted it immediately upon hearing the chatter for the first time and wanted to take it out every day until I sold the car. On the flip-side, If you only tracked the car I'd go LWFW of course. Admittedly I've not done much research on flywheels for the Z because I've got a long long time left on the stock one, but there may be some that don't chatter as bad as others depending on how much weight is being shaved.

Honestly if you use the needle bearing pilot bushing, there is zero input shaft noise. I use a pretty light (13lb-ish) flywheel and have very little chatter at all. Running a good gear oil helps.

Of course its a bit moot in my car with solid bushings and engine/trans mounts.
Controlling NVH really isn't a big priority of mine lol

Also FWIW, be really sure you want LTH before you pull the trigger. They are awesome, but LOUD! Seriously loud. Especially if paired with a small or non-resonated exhaust.

Never used the needle pilot. However I did run red line gear oil and that didn't help. Also the noise wasn't the worst part. The worst part was the car shuttering and almost stalling under 2000 rpm if you didn't have the clutch depressed. Let's not forget the purpose of a flywheel it's designed to keep the pistons moving in cylinders in between combustion cycles. It's ideal on a track where there's no stop and go but on the road in any traffic it suuuuuuuxxxx. I know some people really find it worth it but I just didnt.

Yeah LTH's on 370's are obnoxious loud, even with a good exhaust/muffler setup. My roommate a few years ago had that on his 370 and it shook the damn house during cold start idling.

hmm i guess it's really hard to find a local person that i could hear the LTH's in person. i have the biggest resonators that fast intentions offer, and also in stainless which is supposedly not as loud as carbon fiber. i understand cold start would be loud. Didn't you have HFC's i believe? I'm not sure how much louder LTH's are than those

Do you know what kind of resonators he had?

I'm asking him now, I know it was a FI catback, I'm not sure which cans he had. I believe they were the larger stainless as well. I don't remember them being the CF ones.

Having said that, I think the CF ones sound awesome (there's probably little difference honestly). They have a slightly different sound, it's not quite as metallic or sharp especially when jumping up and down in revs. The LTH's and exhaust that my roommate had were crazy loud on startup but just had a slight burble at warm idle and while there was a lout of noise in the cabin from the exhaust, they didn't really drone much.

He had the FI catback with 18" resonators, the smaller ones I believe. Let's put it this way, if you are worried about disturbing the neighbors, I wouldn't get it because it's that loud on startup. If you aren't, it's probably fine. The sound is great, there's just a lot of it. Not that raspy Honda-ish sound.

Even after cold start it's loud. It sounds great, but it's just turned up to eleven...thousand. Seriously, I love em on a race car, but it's a bit over the top for all but the most committed street cars. IMO, the resonated HFCs plus the cf CBE is the best sounding option out there. Of course I'm a bit biased. It's loud when you hoon it, and tame when idle or cruising.
