Who? & how many will spend monthly health payments after you consider a 5k deductible + another 5k in monthly payments before the insurance kicks in/starts paying the bills. Another thing that I don't seem to get/understand
And when that person gets hit with something far worse than a broken arm, costs are passed to you. Period. Doctors don't let people die in the streets for lack of insurance. You are already paying for these people's medical care.

Most people get their insurance through their employer. That won't change. The ACA pushed employers who didn't previously offer insurance to employees to set up group plans. Individuals who aren't offered insurance through their employer can purchase their own plan on the open marketplace, or pay a $95 tax penalty.

Is it really political when you don't talk about parties & blame but to JUST discuss the # one story in the news today???

I feel/think eventually the private sector will end providing health care & pay the fine which is much less than paying for private health care. Then again maybe the Govt. made that fine for corporation small just so the companies did just that. Sounds like a good idea to get huge numbers signing on to the ACA.

The fine isn't small at the large company level, and good benefits are a good way to attract and retain talent. Look, the ACA is a bad way to force individuals to get insurance. That's not in question. But the "Chicken Little" reactions to it based on feelings are why our government is shut down at this moment.

I'd rather not talk about the shutdown because that could be political, like who to blame.

It's a fact that companies are hiring & changing to a part time work force. So it's not far fetched to say that companies might end their health care insurance since the Govt. is pushing them to switch to the ACA. That name ACA should be changed back to what it was called before

The tax penalty is $95 or 1% of your annual income, which ever is higher. Thats for the first year. It ends up going to $695 or 2.5% of your income in 2016 when the act is fully phased in.

So the first year, if you make 50k a year, your penalty will be $500. Afterwards it will be $1250.

Moral of the story, get some insurance so you money is at least benefiting you lol.

I'm just trying to figure out if I know anyone without insurance these days. Even the few I know that don't get it through work get it through their spouse's employer.

And if you're making $50k/yr and don't have health insurance, WTF is up with your priorities?

Agreed lol. I was talking with some of my co-workers last night about this. If you are making 50k a year, there is a really good chance your employer already has a health care plan for you.

Exactly. The people that will be paying the penalty are the "McJob 4 lyfe" types.

They're not. They're going to pay the penalty. That's what I said.

This person may also be able to get a gov subsidy to help pay for their premiums depending on their income, number of family members, etc.

I am wondering...do you guys think we will see employers drop insurance benefits completely since this new "exchange" wil be there?
and then we wil have to pay for insurance through the exchange instead of paying our portion of thee company sponsored plans we have now?

I doubt it. They'd be paying a large penalty and losing one of the best ways to attract and retain talent. I've got an open enrollment coming up, and there's been no mention of it here.

I hope you are right....but if ALL the large corporations do it you can bet everybody will get dumped and end up in this "exchange"...sigh.

The post office only delivers mail, & loses billions, imagine what will be with something as complicated as this ran by the federal government.

Good luck!
