So 2600 dollars in mods for an FRS gets you

That is pretty normal dude, I don't know what you expected given that you're using full retail pricing for your comparison?

You are kidding me right.... IMO the direction of the mods, to someone that has no idea about the mods being used, in sole relevance to the total price for what is gained is way misleading.

Cusco Earth Grounding Kit (wtf would anyone buy this right off the get go?) $200

Cusco Ignition Capacitor (another wtf and why???)
$214

"Optional" Ignition Wire Harness (an even more wtf and why)
$440

Cusco Throttle Body (yet again another wtf and why)
$1707 (IMO way over priced!)

All mods that really serve no purpose at all for a totally stock car. I would really like to meet the tard that did this waste of magazine space test..... Could they have picked more usless parts to test? I mean only thing better would have been a optima battery and tires to see if they provided any WHP gain....

Baseline mods already performed were a HKS Hi-Power Spec-L exhaust. No intakes or anything else. Was 161.4 whp/132.7TQ

You have to look at it in terms of % gain/$, but, yeah, the FR-S/BRZ has a little 4 banger, so without FI, it's going to be slow and absolute gains will be modest.

It is not always about total WHP to make you fast. This is a NA 4 banger that smokes the fastest recorded 370z on this site, and they are squeezing 396whp out of it. Says alot about the lack of developement put into our VQ.....

Kind of stupid to compare the two. That Civic was built for one thing only drag racing. The TT and SC Z's on this site still stop and handle for well.

Why haven't you sold your Z and bought a civic/fr-s yet?

I have a semi road course built integra that is a toy. They do the work when I need motor or tranny stuff done. Plus I have my Z. Just stating since it has a little 4banger that is NA doesnt mean it has to be slow by any means.... Just needs more development.

Honestly, I havent seen a Z with that much work in it. People either go with suspension, basic breathing mods & tune. Turbo, exhaust & tune. I don't see to many people going through extensive forgings and overhauls of the VQHR.

There's still a big gap & mystery as to what the VQ can really do. Everything is so fu**in expensive for the Z that you can buy 4 Z's if you pay the amount of money necessary to mod the Z properly.
As much as I love this car, non-F.I. 4 and 6 engines are pretty useless when you want to extract power. NA v8 is the best way to go if you expect big gains with breathing mods. Other than that. V6's and four bangers is a money pit of useless power gains without FI.

The best the FR-S is going to get on breathers n a tune is 14.5 second quarters if lucky. The best the Z will do is 12.6 if lucky? V8's you can see low 12, high 11 on breathing mods alone.
That said... I'm definitely going back to a turbo vehicle soon. I miss my FD.

This I 100% agree with.

This I do not. There is so much more than WHP number to be fast whether it is a Strip or a RR. That is unless you are trying to win at a DYNO Comp.

For any application outside of a DYNO Comp you car needs to dialed in weight, tires, suspension, WHP/TQ. WHP/TQ alone will not make you go fast in a straight line or in a curve.

Just my .02

Example (230HP FWD vs 488HP AWD) Think what that little hatch Type-R would do with around 300hpNA which is SOOOO easy to achieve for what every brether mod for a 370z is going to run you. That thing didnt even have a K24 bottom end nor a really built head. Both not that exspensive to build.

I own both a Nissan and a Honda. Kinda disapointing to a degree how some people ill informed about things, closed minded, or better yet try to be comical by making fun of someone or something. People can make fun a car that costs alot less or doesnt look as good till they get beat by it....

I could make fun of my own Z. I drive a car that has been on the market for aftermarket companies to produce performance parts for, what 5 years, and I really dont see much being done with it until recently with the unlocking of VVEL, even then though by the time the parts to go along with that come on line something else much more important will be happening and the Z will be forgotten about.... HOW THE DOES THAT HAPPEN???? How is there 4 bangers out there that dont have boost and that are running circles around a 370z on a road course, or ones that are obliterating a 370z that is boosted in the 1/4?

Wait till 2014. The 80th Anniv. of nissan and then even less support for the Z..... The nissan 80th is going to be epic for them and will usher in not only new cars but lots of old ones that will make the 370z even less desirable to mod due to costs. Not that I plan on getting rid of my 370z at that time, but you best be sure spring of 2013 I am getting a low milage 1989 GTR up in canada and putting it into a storage unit till Jan 1st 2014. No reason to dump money into to the Z IMO.

IMO 2014, will also bring the death of many hondas.

2014 is going to be epic for almost all car manufactures, USDM/JDM/EDM, doesnt matter, that have ever made a performance car that was never available here in the USA. 1989 was the start of when most manufacters got more performance oriented.

I also have my sights set on a 1996 Chaser TourerV when those become unlocked. But those are a little harder to find in Canada.

I feel what you're saying jay... but I really was talking about this FR-S and the RWD scene. Honda n/a K motors are a whole other animal.

Very true. I am still curious what can be done NA with this frs for it to become a track monster. Put it on a fat kid diet and run some ITB's and serious cams, springs, retainers, valves, PnP. I think on fat kid diet and a driver in the 175lb area this car should weigh in sub 2.4k lbs. I got money on these cars clipping off 1/4 mile times NA, faster than any Z on here in no more than a year.

Hardest part for Hondas with the K is once going boost and doing multiple lap sessions you are really trying to fight heat soak. It can take a car down. Boosting one is great for a strip or time attack, but NA for a K taking on lapping sessions is where it is at and it in a car sub 2k lbs 300whp is dirty, you are running in supercar territory lap time wise.

Over half the battle in building a fast track car is the weight.
