STI or 370Z

My wife got a new STi last weekend, and I have the 40th Anniversary 370Z. I wouldn't pick an STi over a Z unless I needed the functionality and/or AWD.

I feel much more connected to the road & car when I drive the Z. The interior quality is a full step up in the Z, which adds to the driving experience for me. That said, I think the STi 6-speed shifts nicer.

You can probably tell I care more about the driving experience more than the actual numbers. If the opposite were true, my choice of cars would be different as well.

I'm all about the driving experience too. Whatever makes you happy is what you should drive.

"Whatever makes you happy" is the absolute, final, & indisputably correct answer when it comes to, "what should I buy". Drive everything, buy what you can afford, fits your needs, and makes you smile. And when you get bored with that car, trade it in on something else. Life's too short for anything else.

That said... having owned a WRX in the past, and now a Z, I don't really understand the comparison. They're quite different. Arguing over which is "better" is sort of like arguing between a minivan and a pickup truck. Comparisons (arguments) tend to run in circles because it's tricky to directly compare them. If you want a quick, smallish, reasonably affordable sedan/hatchback with AWD, then a WRX is a fantastic choice. If you want a quick, reasonably affordable 2-seat RWD sports car, then a Z is a fantastic choice. Each has strengths and weaknesses.

If it's just a 0-60/quarter-mile bragging rights thing, then just go buy a Mustang GT with Miata doors and call it a day. You win, I lose, game over.

yup, and both the Z and the WRX brings stupidly huge grins to my face every time.

i do agree the subies are awful interior-wise. not as bad as a mitsu though!

wat do you guys think about the new impreza hatch styling? the STI's going to look like that in the future, true?

to me the new impreza looked like a previous gen ford or something.

I don't like it. It's got the shape of a Focus hatchback but looks far more bland. I am not too happy about where Subaru is going with their styling (save for the BRZ).

yah, that was my feeling too. the legacy sedan (to me) looks rediculous...and i think that's the trend subaru's going with on all models.

I think since the 06 it has just been going down hill. I loved the 05 style

I had a World Rally Blue 2005 WRX. I have not seen a prettier WRX since.

I'll be interested to see what 2013 brings for the WRX. The WRX & WRX STi are supposedly going to be all-new for the 2014 model year, and for the first time completely separate from the standard Impreza line. Subaru's styling has always been polarizing; love it or hate it. While I don't think the current WRX's look awful, I'm not a fan. I'm hoping that Subaru uses the BRZ's styling queues, as it's a genuinely good-looking car (IMHO).

I agree! cant wait to see all the aftermarket stuff for it as well

that would be great. the imprezas right now are purely utility. there's no real character in the design at all.

with that said, they drive nice. sorta.

my favorite subaru legacy:

the new ones are fugly.

the new imprezas are...bland. supposedly the STi and WRX line will look similar, but i hope they do SOMETHING. the WRX line deserves better than one of the most cut/paste designs i've seen in years.
