It's a double edged sword. Also, there will always be a faster car. If you go buy a Mustang now, there will be a faster car for decent money past that. Keeping up with the performance Joneses is a zero sum game. |

I have actually heard "meh, it's not an Enzo" at a show before. |

I know but at least come up with something. I rather hear things like it has a solid rear axle, or why the interior is cheap (still waiting on that one), or it weighs too much. Those are reasons that can be discussed. Its just a mustang just shows a prejudice against it and you can't even debate the car with the person.
I drive a Z and I love it, it has problems (a lot have been brought up on this site). But I like the mustang too. When it comes to my money I want to keep as open a mind that I can so I can maximize my investment and fulfill the need/want I my life. |

I am saying the GT500 at the end of the day is nothing more than a Mustang with 'nicer or better performance parts.' It is not worth the extra money to buy a GT500 in my opinion because 'it is just a Mustang.' |

If you say track, then I will say buy a Boss 302 then if you want a track Mustang. It is a nice feature and good to see progress with the car, but honestly I would be taking a 5.0 or Boss 302 before I even look at a GT500. |

A mustang that can go 200 mph. Thats why they call it a trim level Noboby ever said it wasnt a mustang
The GT500 is not to the mustang GT as the NISMO is to the 370z. You can't take a GT and "built" it to a GT500 without going way over the cost of buying a new GT500. |

Matt, I'm sure you don't use all of your 400whp every day... so why do you even have it? Because you can. :usa:

At the same time, on the broader spectrum, you can see why they'd put out this GT500. It's to compete with the ZL1 Camaro. And if you feel the same about the ZL1, that "big deal it's just a Camaro", then ok no prob. Biases and opinions about a car are personal. I dislike certain cars just because of their manufacturer, or their exterior design, or their association with some m4a1users. But that's just subjective opinion. :D Lemers is right, there's no logical argument to be had there, but so much of the buying process is illogical. |
Matt uses all 400 hp all day, every day. 7500rpms through schools zones in third.

If anything, I would rather buy a tourning/nav 370z and send it off to GTM before buying a Nismo if I wanted a GT500 competitor. What you get from Shelby though is basically that, but it is sold at a Ford dealership. |

This is a common misconception and is one of the reasons Ford should have just kept calling it the SVT Cobra. Ford only licenses the Shelby name. SVT develops the car. There is NO engineering involvement from Shelby. |
Oh, may I remind you all, this thread WILL NOT be locked so if you take it off topic or start bashing each other Trip's is coming in to take care of you.

Do I use 400whp everyday? No, but I do come close, I honestly take my car to 6k everyday a few times, only thing I wish I could do more is take it to a track and truly utilize my car 100%. |

Will a ZL1 owner ever go to 184? Probably not. But it doesn't matter if/when you will use that capability. What matters is it's there and it's a selling point of the car. 200+ mph is damn impressive on a GT500. If I buy one I doubt I will ever come close to going that fast, but knowing it can do that sure adds a lot of value in the mind of the driver. |
Is Amar gonna sell his Nismo for a GT500?

"Does a GT-R owner ever use his 193 mph top speed?" Answer: not a Mustang "Does a Z06 owner ever run to 198?" Answer: not a Miustang "Will a ZL1 owner ever go to 184?" Answer: not a Mustang "200+ mph is damn impressive on a GT500." Answer: false, because it's just a Mustang :roflpuke2::roflpuke2::roflpuke2: |
It's just nice to know that in the event of the zombie apocalypse the GT500 can go 200 mph and seat 4.

I still think it's important for Matt to understand that Shelby does not design, develop, or build the GT500. They just collect royalties.

Anything Shelby puts out is just a modified ford

Yeah, get this back on track.

Shelby still builds new versions of their old roadsters which have nothing to do with Ford. The key point I am trying to make is that, aside from the name, Shelby is in no way associated with the GT500. Everyone seems to think it's just Shelby designing, developing, producing, and selling them through Ford dealerships. That's not true at all. It's all designed and built by Ford. They slap a Shelby badge on it for marketing purposes. That's it. |
Ok back on topic...5 speed or 6 speed?
|
:iagree: with you. But as I recall Caroll Shelby did have imput on the 2007 GT500s.

The New 2007 Shelby Mustang GT500 I'm not saying Shelby created the GT500, but STV did get input from him. |
