I was thinking the old man in the corner that they shake every once in a while to ensure he's still breathing.

SVT Guy: "Carroll, we were thinking of shaving 8 lbs of weight off of the engine by using cheaper yet lighter materials, and this new intake design should boost power by 15 at the rear wheels. What do you think?"

CS: "Whatever"

*designed by Shelby*

Lemers 11-16-2011 11:12 AM

Caroll Shebly's initial input to STV

"We need to take this redesigned mustang and supercharge it, that's what Shelbys are all about"

Top Speed = 202 mph

The 2013 Shelby GT500 actually has a top speed of 202 MPH

Yes I am aware of that, I forgot about that.
I understand y'alls points and my view is different. I just feel the GT500 is not worth the 'value' but hopefully the rumors I have heard are true and Ford begins or has already development of a modern GT40.

Value is relative so I won't argue with that.

Yep, I still want to drive a Boss 302 but no one I know has bought one yet. :shakes head:
Why won't people buy cars so I can drive them...what is wrong with my friends? :stirthepot:

b1adesofcha0s 11-16-2011 11:32 AM

Some numbers from it's competitor the ZL1.

0-60 = 3.9 s
1/4 mile = 12.0 s
Top Speed = 184 mph
Price = $54,995

2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1: 0-60 in 3.9 secs for $54,995 - WOT on Motor Trend

theDreamer 11-16-2011 11:34 AM

What are the new GT500 numbers?

No details yet aside from power and top speed.

Lame, I am curious how it is going to hook up.
I wonder if Ford will engineer a new feature for the Mustang/GT500 which is basically launch control which can break it into the sub 3 second 0-60 time, now that would be crazy.

It has launch control.

I don't think sub 3 seconds is possible with RWD on street tires, though.

Really? Yep, 2013 has it, guess I missed that in the article.
So, will we see a sub 3 second time now? Huh...huh....:p

m4a1mustang 11-16-2011 11:41 AM

I think it could be in the mid-high 3s. Traction is still going to be really limited.

The good news is 1st gear will now run through 60 mph, which should help a lot with the 0-60 time.

Lemers 11-16-2011 11:42 AM

While my older brother was in highschool he had a friend who's father founded a local fast food chain and owned an exotic use car lot. His dad would let him take some of the cars out on "test drives". One day my brother and his friend showed up at the house in a ferrari 308.

It would be pretty tough. Depends what tires they go with though

For reference the Corvette ZR1 is rated to 3.3. I would expect the GT500 to be a little bit off of that time.

So that means I can drive around town and never go into 2nd. ;). Almost like owning an auto.

They mentioned it in the article. Falkens I think.

Interesting, with 1st gear that long is it going to turn into a Corvette setup where at 70mph it is cruising at 800RPMs and basically you can do a 1/4 mile in 2 gears?

Goodyear F1 Supercar G2s. The compound is specific to the GT500.

Probably 3 gears. In regular street driving with my lowly 400whp 5.0 I can go from 1st gear straight to 5th gear if I wanted to and keep up with the flow of accelerating traffic no problem. The GT500 will have gobs more torque. :icon17:

My bad, I thought I read that somewhere. That was probably some other article for a different car. :p

Are they sticking with the current tire size?

No official tire spec out yet but I wouldn't be surprised if they do. With the right compound tire and suspension setup (and launch control) 285 rears should be sufficient (it doesn't matter what ImportConvert tries to say).

Yeah, wider is not always better.
Did you see that video I posted in that one thread about the 9 second 5.0 NA?

Yes. So sick.

And you're right. Just because the tire is wider doesn't always mean you are increasing your contact patch.

From the info I have been given, the 9 second run was the first of the day and they had just finished the basic tune that morning and went to the track. It was the 'break in' run, they are hoping for low 9s.

Number of $50,000 cars that can top 200 mph?..........1

Number of cars under $100,000 that can top 200 mph...........also 1

That alone makes is worth the money.

For those who thinks it's just a mustang. I don't believe that someone can take a 5.0 for $30k and build it to the performance of the new Gt500 for $20k in performance parts. You might have done it with the 2012, but not the 2013.

Well, you could build a 650hp 5.0 for less than 20k... but it isn't factory tested and doesn't come with a bumper-to-bumper warranty.

Lemers 11-16-2011 01:40 PM

It also takes more than HP to get you to 200 mph. So we are looking a a lot in mods to get you there safely

Cmike2780 11-16-2011 02:20 PM

Ford has been known to under rate the hp numbers, so I'm wondering what that 650 hp really translates to.

m4a1mustang 11-16-2011 02:20 PM

Probably over 9000.
