I love the sound of steve's exhaust, so frpp sport or s type sounds like a great option to me. I have a hard time dropping $700 on just mufflers though.

From what I've heard on the car though, there is no better option.

Thanks Steve! After further research last night and this morning... I think I've narrowed it down to axle backs for sure, but choosing between Borla S-type axle backs, or Roush axle backs. Any thoughts on the Roush? I know they're cheaper ~400. But they sound great too! Any feedback on drone? I think I read there's hardly any either.

I have heard the Roush in person before and it sounds pretty good. It does seem to have a bit of rasp but wasn't too bad from what I remember. Not really sure on drone.

Another good option would be the GT500 mufflers. Louder than stock with no drone. Not as loud as the Roush or Borlas, but if you wanted more volume you could always delete the resonators. A lot of people really like this setup.

I will have to check that out. GT500's mufflers with no resonators eh? How much would that set me back?

Also, are your FRPP's polished, Steve?

The mufflers are not, they just look OEM, but the tips are rolled stainless steel.

Here's the GT500 axle-back (with resonators) for your reference:

The Roush:

There's a guy in Germany that has done 174 on the GPS but shut the car down because of traffic.

Red370 09-25-2011 02:04 PM

Yeah thats the main reason I stopped at 130, there was a gradual curve ahead and someone in a 3 series was blocking the passing lane. I was going to record a video of my 160 run but I was recording with an iphone and decided that i'd need both hands on the wheel. I dont plan on taking it any faster than that on the stock rubber. BTW, you gotta admit, that exhaust sounds sick.

I wish we had an autobahn here so I could do top-speed runs without worrying about legality. :icon17:

Red__Zed 09-25-2011 10:09 PM

ahhhh....good to be back in the stang.

It's really funny driving the WRX after having been in the Stang. While I had the Z, I thought of the WRX as a torque monster....now it feels like it has no balls :rofl2:

Mine has no torque right now. I have a monster exhaust leak at the x-pipe/cat connection. Sigh. Either the H pipe is going back on or I'm driving to the shop to have it welded.

According to the curse of the red Z, Jared will be in a 5.0 soon :roflpuke2:

That will not happen!!!!!!!!!!! LOL. As much as the new 5.0 is a good fast car I would not even consider it as a next car. If anything happen to my Z I would pick up the new STI Sedan.

Same story with me. I thought lowly of the 5.0, and way highly of my z. That is.....until the test drive. That's why my z is sitting at the dealer lot all traded in ;)

Btw guys, I went with the gt500 mufflers. Best price and sound ;)

Red370 09-26-2011 12:47 PM

so essentially you guys are buying "stock" mufflers :ughdance:

Red__Zed 09-26-2011 12:49 PM

Who cares what they are? I just want good sound.

diff'rent strokes I suppose, I like hearing my engine and melting faces simultaneously, 28 years old mind you, still music to my ears.

ImportConvert 09-26-2011 01:20 PM

25 here, and loud cars got old after my first cammed/dumped mustang. Now, I like it when it's loud on/off the gas, quiet when cruising.
