They are going to be louder than my setup, but probably not that much louder.

Also, Steve, Red, I've been doing some more reading, esp on the mustang forums, and as you know, things that happen to a handful of people get blown up out of proportion and scare the other 99% of the other people.

So in that vain, what are the "handful" of issues that have happened to 5.0 cars in general? I read stuff about this "tick" noise that happens around 7k? Thoughts on that? Any of you experience this?

Venting on my 5.0 - The Mustang Source - Ford Mustang Forums

Tick is normal. A lot of people bitched about it but it just sounds like typical engine operation to me.

Some cars had Cylinder #8 issues but those seemed exclusive to 2011s with bad aftermarket tunes. Some people bitch about the transmission, but it's a non-issue if you know how to drive. Just the usual stuff.

One thing to keep in mind with the 5.0 is it sells about 30k units or more a year, and you have a lot of owners coming from cars like Honda Accords or Lexus whatevers that want to give the new 5.0 a try. So they freak out at the littlest of things.

I wouldn't worry about it.

I did get the 1st gear notch. Should be just a fluid swap thing, and ford has the TSB out.

I am swapping transmission and rear end fluid with Redline this weekend.

Redline made a nice difference in my 370, so I figure it will be nice in the 5.0 too.

m4a1mustang 09-26-2011 07:35 PM

Order the full Borla S-Type catback.

m4a1mustang 09-26-2011 07:38 PM

Or just the FRPP sports and an X pipe.

Yeah, they are like $7xx at most retailers. But the FRPP Sport is a better deal at around $630. Still pricey.

Dan, since you can't decide on exhaust, buy my Konis .

Tell your wife we were doing a science project where we used two knees (co-knees) and it cost $700 in materials. :/

you can always delete the resonators, right? then either change h or x pipe? for more volume?

Speaking of resonators, just exactly HOW do you delete or remove resonators? is it permanent or can it be put back on?

The resonators would have to be cut and straight pipes would have to be welded in their place.

Steve, any familiarity with how the koni orange's are for the platform?

FromG2Z 09-26-2011 08:17 PM

^ eeek... ok, nvm then. I'll keep mine on.

Although, I might add this down the road? I've read folks having good luck with this, esp with combo with the GT500 mufflers?

I personally wouldn't use that because it's aluminized steel and not stainless.

The people that are running the STR.Ts really like them, but I feel like it's worth it to spend the extra money and get the Yellows for the adjustability.

I really want to order this now: Magnaflow Clamp-On Tru-X Mustang X-Pipe (2011-2012 GT) at AmericanMuscle - Free Shipping!

Way better than the FRPP X because it will actually fit right... but $400.

Ah yes the fitment issues.

Another side question. I know our coyotes use 5w20, but I've read some folks use 5w30 for added protection? Any thoughts on this or experience? Some say Ford did this just aid cafe regulations?

m4a1mustang 09-26-2011 09:27 PM

I think you can really run whatever you want, but I just stick to 5w-20 because that's what is recommended. I use Pennzoil Platinum synthetic.

Have to fight GM for the patent, my car came with similar. Sounds great and I have NOT missed having an obnoxious car all the time while at the same time it's loud enough at WOT that my Dad heard it clearly through a mile and a half of trees as I was merging onto the interstate leaving his house the other day.

I really think this kind of setup is the wave of the future. It's just the best of both worlds all the time.

I love the quiet-as-my-G20 cruising, and then when I nail it the flaps open up and it is loud as hell. It's running straights at that point, basically. Also worth a 20whp or so bump when those flaps open at around 3200rpm. You can see it on a dyno graph and feel it in your SOTP. Then you get off the gas, and it sounds like a machine-gun, or if you watch this crap, a NASCAR.

Definitely something I think other manufacturers will make their own versions of.

^There is flaps closed, and flaps open. He looks to only be revving to about 3500-4K at highest. The crackles on decel start for me at around 4500-5K.

PPS did very well in all the UOA's I saw.

Does Ford recommend the same thing in the BOSS? I am curious if they think track use necessitates a heavier oil than this or not.

that was my old setup, woke the dead with my muffler delete pipes, hence why I had to get rid of it, it was TOO much. With the mufflers, should sound pretty good.
