Hyundai Genesis to compete with 370Z now?

If hyundai could fit their 4.6 or 5.0 V8 into the coupe they would sell so many more of them, it would be the korean version of the mustang GT.

No I use my experience from spending time around Hyundai manufacturing and in Korea in general. I'm not saying it's a bad car it's just not a sports car. I trust my understanding of sports car engineering and many years of driving and developing sports racing cars from Nissan, Mazda and Porsche. Sorry this bloated under suspended sedan based car isn't anything close to Z , rx8 or Porsche cayman. ......Continue with the delusions please.

I test drove a brand new Genesis 4.6L sedan last year. I thought the car was completely overrated. It wants to compare to an S class? Really? The drivetrain was rough/transmission was slow/interior was barely passable. It should be compared to a Maxima, not an S class

Well after living in Korea for almost a year I can say that the society out here is very homogenous. So I wouldn't expect a sports car from any of their brands for the next five or so years. Their culture just isn't into it yet.

I mean look at Hyosung motorcycles and everything else Korean...they all fall into the decent alternative category. There's no soul or passion in the products they build just functionality.

I have read all the thread and everyone makes some very good points..

I think i even forgot how this thread got started. But to me bottom line

Does the Hyundai line offer any sports car (shakes head) that can compete
with the 370 as of this moment and imo the answer is no..........

And that is not saying they do not make good sporty looking cars....
sporty looking being the key here...............

Dropping a V8 into a sleek body doesn't cut it.........................

The Gen Coupe is not a sports car and they don't advertise it as one.
It's a sports sedan which is a different category then a sports car.
It competes more with the G37. & yes I know the G37 is more expensive and nicer inside, blah blah blah
I drove the Gen Coupe with the 6cyl, it's a nice comfortable car with some power.
It would make a great every day driver and a great car at that price point.

Your history is a little off. And you forgot Honda.

Honda entered F1 racing in 1964. Their engines forever have benefitted from their development of high revving high HP race motors.

Toyota GT2000 in 1967

Far before Z came on the scene Fairlady Roadster was very popular and winning race car in the 60s. Bob Sharp made fair lady roadster famous in motorsports back in 1967 by winning SCCA national championship! Japanese directors valued motorsports as an extension of their company.

All the major Japanese car makers have had factory motorsports divisions that influence car design. Hyundai/Kia motors haven't had internal motorsports programs nor have they had a president that fully embraces factory race cars. All major Japanese companies were driven to learn from racing and they used much of their racing development in product design.

hyundai/Kia motors have invested in large design center in California over past 10 years. Their huge boost has been from US engineers working on better designs. They are getting there but can't go head to head yet with well developed Japaese cars with tons invested in sports car segment.

Nissan/Datsun USA in SCCA Competition

Japanese car makers have long history making sports cars. They also have lots of experience racing

Hahaha we were talking about this at work when a KATUSA (Korean Augmentee) schooled us on the Korean GT series where race ready Kia Forte's, Chevy Cruze (Daewoo version), and a few other models compete.

Honestly, I was surprised. The event is far from Grassroots. All of the cars where sponsored by big Korean companies. We're trying to get tickets with access to the pit area for the next event.
