2019 Toyota Supra Tries On A Slew Of Colors

ZCanadian 11-20-2017 08:51 PM

Yeah, but will it be a drivers' car, or standard modern Toyota/Lexus fare?
A "Corolla with a body kit" would be a huge disappointment, regardless of how good it looks.

Firebase99 11-20-2017 09:36 PM

I don’t like it. Looks like an RX-8 mated with an 86.

You have been looking at your Hyundai too long lol Where do you see resemblances of an rx8?

NissanFreak81 11-21-2017 07:56 AM

Looks pretty decent.

Are we missing an upgraded engine package?

"According to our sources, the new Supra will be available with a four-cylinder engine delivering 248 hp and a six-cylinder producing around 335 hp. "

Maybe.
But I'd have guessed turbo like everything else these days.

Still, a 6 cylinder with around 330-ish HP - where have I seen numbers like that on a car before??? ;-)

Wonder if it will actually have usable torque, though.

BlackZeda 11-22-2017 05:35 PM

Does anyone recall any other car that has been in testing and camo so long as this car? I think Toyota is trying to build hype so people with pent up anticipation will throw cash at them when they finally reveal it. I almost am one of those people...let's see the production car already Toyota!

Ehh.. I just hope they don’t kill the Supra... I think they might be holding out for last min changes to see what other manufacturers are coming out with.. maybe

even with a turbo, we'd be looking at the BMW 335i...2009!

I guess we are going to have to wait again lol according to this article.

Hmm. A 248 hp model would be a disaster. It's probably going weigh about a thousand lbs more than the 86, and the 45 - 50 extra hp will make it only marginally faster at best (and maybe slower...).

A 335 hp model makes sense. That means it will be on par with the current Z, and that's a reasonable aim, especially if Nissan has indeed dropped the ball on a new Z.

Basically, Toyota would pick up the lion's share of customers who wanted a new Z when one isn't available.

Holding back from Detroit seems odd to me, though. Is BMW releasing their car there? If so, maybe they didn't want the two cars being revealed at the same time?

I doubt the new Supra will weigh 3800lbs that would be a disaster in itself. I think it will weigh around the same as a Z or lighter.

Looks like a gt86 on steroids lol but I like it.

Wow that looks great even if they get somewhat close to that I think it will still look very sharp.

carlitos_370z 12-13-2017 05:07 AM

I like it

Blue Z34 12-14-2017 07:56 AM

That looks great if true. I still have very very low hopes for the car overall though. Toyota has been a constant disappointment as a brand since the death of the original Supra. Given the rumors and everything else we know about the brand itself I don’t see that changing.

The Supra will be powered by Prius.
The transmission will be furnished by motorola.
The tires will be Firestone.

It will premier at the Compton Swap Meet Auto Extravaganza hosted by Exibit and Chingo Bling.

You forgot: Interior by IKEA.

It will be Toyota's (um, Gazoo's) first truly global car.

Same here. Sunkist is right, that back end is looking good. :yum:

carlitos_370z 02-13-2018 06:27 AM

Well now that I dont have my Z... I hope that this car become a reality... and of course not over-priced

FPenvy 02-13-2018 08:24 AM

3300lbs, 335BHP, 6cyl..............sounds familiar and not very impressive. just saying.

unless all reports so far are wrong then this is just a slightly beefed up FRS/BRZ.

Carlitos, whaaaaa? No Z? Why no Z????

eZg 02-13-2018 09:49 AM

article mentioned four diff trim levels.

I'm not familiar with Toyota's marketing......but wondering if they will wait and introduce the highest level later than the others.

I'm not holding my breath after this long but would suck to have to wait even longer.

I'm not a chevy guy at ALL but the C7 vette is all that I like and can afford at this point in time. So this seems like my only hope before I give up and buy some gold nugget jewelry and a stupid vette. (thought about trying to disguise the C7 with some aftermarket front and rear bodywork, but not much available as vette owners appear proud of their brand)

march 3rd 3:45am we will know. that's when the information will be released.

eZg 02-13-2018 10:30 AM

but are they likely to release ALL the info?

I guess Lexus did release both the levels of the RC coupe at the same time...

ZCanadian 02-13-2018 11:14 AM

Info release is one thing.
When will product be on store shelves? That's the kicker.

The Toyota distribution network is a huge pipeline to fill, and even though they are masters at it you cannot go from auto-show debut (is it still a pre-production concept, or production-ready?) in Geneva to cars on the sales floor at your local Toyota dealership, overnight.

2011 Nismo#91 02-13-2018 11:25 AM

Just a guess but BMW 335HP = N55 motor?

I like it

I'm very happy in Alfa land, but am still looking forward to seeing this thing FINALLY make its (hopefully) triumphant return, and also hoping it lights a fire under Nissan's butt to get a Z35 put together by 2020.

Hmmm i dunno what to think. I mean its a bimmer engine with toyota tech on it. The 335hp will probably be underrated by 40hp?
3300 is slightly heavy but if they did alfa giulia type engineering with the chassis. This may feels super fast?

On paper stats for this may not be the key.
BMW has had a hard time making a Z4 that can out class a mazda rx or a Z in terms of handling. Thats why Toyota is in the mix.
And toyota just didnt want to build a new powetful engine for their sub premium sports entry. Maybe together they can find the formula? So far the Supra Aero looks sick and may be a contributor to supercar handling... Lets see? Toyota is underwhelming but this may be the turnaround?
