These new spy shots don't look promising for the supra as the rear looks like a 350z with those cheap eBay carbonfiber aftermarket tail lights lol

Am I the only person who absolutely rages at these mishmash cars.
It's the same thing they did with that POS BRZ/GT/FR-S.

It's like Toyota has lost the ability to engineer their own engines. If I'm going to buy a Supra or a GT86 it's because of the originals. You can put Yota badges on a BRZ but the motor still has Subaru stamped on it. It's like pandering, using these car names that people know and love and sticking them on garbage.

A supra built by BMW is still going to be BMW trash. If you have ever tried to work on, or buy replacement parts from BMW you will know what I mean. Forget it. there will be huge sticker price because Euro import tax is higher, some specialty washer on the motor that you can only get from BMW for $250, and they will be run through in 100k miles. Oh and piss poor resale value.

Sorry, got a little ranty there...

You need to put down the crack pipe. If the car is sold at a Toyota dealership, you will easily get parts for the engine, no matter what. And since when is BMW trash? Just because you can't afford to buy or maintain a BMW, doesn't constitute it as being garbage?

It's not like Toyota went over to BMW and said "give me 20,000 units of this engine, stat!" I'm sure Toyota went over the design with a fine tooth comb to ensure it meets their standards for longevity. Just because it was designed and potentially even built by BMW, doesn't mean ****.

I am waiting at least a year IF Toyota puts out a Supra and to see if it maintains Toyota quality. If the quality is not there, there is no reason to buy a Toyota.

I can afford to buy an M4 and maintain it....

BMW sucks!!! They lost their way in the late 90's. Period. Of course, corporate sponsorship won't allow mainstream periodicals to preach such truthful heracy. It's funny how the M2 has gotten so much praise but hasn't been compared to anything in its price range on a track. Every car has been compared except the M2. Everyone says it's the second coming of BMW. But where are track comparos to cars in its price range like the camaro 1LE, Mustang GT350, Porsche Cayman S, Corvette Z51, Audi TTS or Lotus Evora

You won't find any.... Why???

The media protects BMW for corporate cash.

Bmw died from me when they went the FI route in the F8XXX series,

the e92 and e90 were the last true M enthusiast cars. I drove a new m4, the car had trouble putting power down on nice grippy michelin tires, it was fun for the first couple of miles but then it just got annoying, that huge torque hit at 2000rpm is great on paper but in real life, if you are not running slicks or some extra wide summer tires, you WILL not hook up - and if you do its because the TC just cut your power. What the new M cars really need is AWD but that would even farther drive them away from what we love about the M cars.
That experience was in summer btw, I don't even want to know what the car with some light snow or rain.

bmw if you are reading this; give us a modern e46m3

How did BMW lose their way in the 90s, effectively paving the way for their suckage? I honestly would like to know your opinion.

Companies share resources on projects like this because sports cars aren't a profitable segment, and developing a new chassis and power train to fit it is expensive.

While i'm sure Toyota would love to reward a "hardcore" fan like you with a "pure" sports car designed and manufactured entirely in Toyota's Japan HQ and plants, its simply not the market we live in today.

Also, its not entirely clear what each company is contributing - who's doing the chassis tuning? BMW is doing the gas engine, Toyota is doing the electric ****.

Lastly. The BRZ/GT86/FRS was actually helped by Subaru's involvement. Its engine was much more accessible than a Toyota engine that might be locked up tight for emissions purposes. And Subaru does build quick cars, so they know what they're doing.

Is it just me, or does the new Supra look much smaller than the last gen Supra? It looks more like the size of the 370z (aka no back seat).

I completely agree...it looks to be about the same size and proportion of the 370Z. That in itself gets me excited to see the final product, but being a two-seater is icing on the cake.

BMW engines in themselves are reliable. It's some of the components related to the engine that aren't (like the High pressure fuel pump debacle from a few years ago). I'm not sure to what extent each company is responsible for building the car, but it would make absolute sense for Toyota to feel secure about the product being released that will ultimately bear it's name.

That's not to say it won't have issues. I'm sure it will. But even every Toyota these days seems to have some sort of recalls, or what not. They're no different than any other manufacturer, in that regard.

I have read from many sources the issues that relate to BMW's reliability are due to over-outsourcing. Of course that is the weak spot for any manufacturer, but since Toyota has literally written the book on automobile manufacturing, I trust their sourcing more than BMW.

Recalls are a result of a quality assurance system working. Companies that don't recall a known issue are either hiding issues or more worried about the bottom line *cough* Nissan *cough* CSC *cough* my NISMO engine...
