After reading all the post this morning I have one quick question for the haters...

You really going to judge a new Z on its grill? Seriously? How many of you actually thought there would even be a new Z? I know I didn’t. And as far as being a “parts bin refresh” I say at least it’s made from NISSAN Parts, unlike the Supra which was made from a different company‘s parts bin all together. I read the horror stories for Supra owners going in for warranty work and being turned down because they don’t know what they’re doing. You won’t have that problem here.

So, yea, the grill is ugly, I can change that eventually. Give me a genuine factory parts product that puts out 400 HP with a manual trans for $40,000 and I’ll be the first in line. If it sells decently the aftermarket parts will be off the hook.

+1

I feel comfortable with the fact that Amuse (for sure) will come up with something killer for the front end. What would be a bonus is if their current offerings fit the new car....

If the underpinnings are the same as the current model, then there are already a bunch of parts that will swap over, and I suspect there are more than a couple of folks on this forum that are itching to swap that 3.0TT into a 370. I find it intriguing, but I want to wait and touch one before I decide. I've only had my current car for 2 years & the boss lady says I don't get to have 2 toys....

General Public: why can’t anyone build an affordable sports car, with rear wheel drive, a manual trans, and not too much tech?

Nissan: hey over here!

General Public: Nah, the grill is ugly.

I like the one on the right with the paint under the chin!

Now continue the yellow up the A-pillar and on the roof.

And someone needs to figure out what to do with the grill itself. Sideways Jeep style holes are not doing it for me.

^^^Agreed! The front could take on more of the 09 to 14 Nismo shape. I like the catfish look. The rear is just not appealing. Maybe a spoiler would help as well. All things considered it doesn't suck and I am on the positive side of neutral by a good margin. The price point is the biggest consideration. It needs to be under $42k for the sport model.

1. The color they revealed it in was just a down right bad choice. It hid what lines and curves it has and fails to pop in pictures. If you look at the videos of it driving in the sunlight you can see the lines better and it looks a little cleaner, but it definitely would look better in almost any other color.

2. The front bumper/grille is a joke of design when looking head on. The rectangle look doesn't work and will never work with a modern design. I think the overall size of it is okay. The issue is, it's literally just a rectangle. Take a look at other sports/super cars with huge grille like the new Q60 or new Audi R8. They have a massive grille but it works and looks aggressive because it's more of a hexagonal shape.

3. Trying to modernize the older retro look of past Zs just doesn't entirely work here, IMO. I think they tried too hard to literally copy and past some of the designs when they should've just redesigned the look and then incorporated subtle retro styling cues. I do like the headlights. I feel like the tail lights could've been executed better. When I look at that long black strip of paint between the taillights I almost imagine the Toyota Prius rear. Maybe changing that black rectangle to body color would look better. Also, giving the tail lights a more 3D, unique shape instead of the flat, blocky appearance it has now, would really help.

Overall, I think they could've been a bit more creative with certain elements without breaking the bank. The interior is perfectly fine for me. The side profile looks great. Just tweak the front grille/bumper and the rear a bit and I'll take one hands down.

This video explains exactly my thought process on why the front grille needs a redesign.
I'm also not a fan of the yellow of the proto. Remember the roll out of the Z33.
All the car mags and show pics were LeMans sunset. Not my choice at all.
But,made the car stand out because it was unusual.

I think the look of the rear would be close to perfect if the tail lights were recessed. Similar to how this sketch shows the rear:

What do you guys think of this new render I did of the rear?

I made the tail lights a little longer, got rid of that middle black area, and reworked the body line engravings. Instead of the oval shape it had, I brought down the lines on bottom outer side of the tail lights towards the diffuser to help give more emphasis on the width of the rear fenders. Also, instead of keeping the "bulge" lines connected, I disconnected those and brought them down on each side, flowing with the natural curvature of the design and left them disconnected at the bottom.

Also I think a carbon fiber spoiler would look great.

Looks so much better. I like the idea Nissan had. I just think the tail lights look too skinny for that large rear and as much as I love diffusers, they need to tamp that lower back area down some.

My opinion is that all the pieces are there but they need to be refined. I think the headlights are unique but could be a bit bigger, the grill needs to be redone, larger tail lights and smaller diffuser/lower bumper would help out the rear. Loving the side profile.

Still waiting on the Nismo version. When I saw the new 300zx back in 1990 I was, "IT is OK". When I saw the Twin Turbo version it was love at first site. Same with the 370z. I liked the sport but when I saw a NISMO, it was all over. I had to have one. The 350z, hated it. LOL

Better!

Now put some paint color on the rear hatch and roof.

I'd also like to see either a lower diffuser, or for it to incorporate some body color.

Here's my version of the Proto... I'm not the best at car renders but I wanted to take a crack at mods I would do to mine if I had one.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CFNwPV3n..._web_copy_link

Some alterations I made quickly just to give it a different feel. NISMO LMGT2’s. Slight drop. Color change. Front bumper modifications. Fender mod and rear spat. I also took elements from the NISMO #370Z and #GTR as well as added the obligatory duckbill every #240Z needs. The car itself is going to be an amazing canvas. Now the only thing left is to hear what the exhaust note sounds like and what the weight will be.

This is something quick I did so it looks a little sloppy, but you get the idea. I do like the body colored roof much better than the black for sure. I kept the side blade because I think that helps give the car a more flowing appearance. It looks better in black for sure. But the bottom portion body colored I must say looks pretty good while still keeping the lower part of the diffuser.
