Ok I'll admit maybe I was a little quick to judge. Those renders don't look bad at all heck actually looks kinda good in different colors. Still don't like the front grill but it looks better in a different color than that ugly yellow they showed off.

I found this render on the 400zclub forum.

I redid it, removed the bottom lip, added a "vent" to the side crevice, brought down the front lip a little, and smoothed out the harsh line around the grille corner.

Like everyone else, there are parts I liked and parts I'm not too sure about. My fiancee says it looks like the 370z..

I'm going to wait until I can see, touch and drive one before I make a decision. I'm hoping Amuse & some of the other JDM aftermarket folks come up with a cool front bumper.
I'm sure the front bumper will be on the top of aftermarket companies lists of parts to make.

Fail. Sissy looking front headlights and thus overall fascia. Throwback tail lights make it look dated not retro. Interior less character than 370, but maybe the dash won't crack. AC controls look like a PITA to reach in a confined space. Thanks Nissan for hiking the values of our 370's!!!

I read that article too, and though I feel that Motortrend would have facts straight before writing this, I have to wonder where they got that info. That's the only article suggesting a release next spring.

Going off what I know of these cars:

240z-280z were generally the same chassis, just federal mandated changes like bumpers and emissions. BTW, note that Datsun used "240" or 260" to designate engine size.

280zx was a different or heavily modified chassis with different suspension and more weight.

Obviously Z31 300ZX totally different, as was Z32 300ZX.

This brings me to a point I keep thinking I may be correct about: Nissan is unlikely to use "400" to designate the Z. I am not quite sure where "400" comes from, maybe the anticipated 3.0TT HP? However, Datsun/Nissan never did that before.
Also, they didn't require increasing the number either as Z31 and Z32 were both "300" despite having several HP levels and being 2 totally different cars.

For Nissan to use "400" would be a deviation from the heritage, which has been very consistent. I suspect it will either drop the numbers (I am unsure about Fairlady) or Nissan will call it "300Z" This would be different than the Z31 and Z32 as they were called "300ZX".

Also, I keep hearing publications and YT videos say the car will also use the 7AT. I sure hope not! Nissan has a 9AT now and it is regarded as a much better trans than the 7AT. I have a 7AT in my Q60, it's "OK" but I wouldn't buy it again.
I'm definitely getting the 6MT Z.

The good...
...Nissan has finally made it official that they're doing another Z.
...3.0TT
...6MT
...handbrake
...6/4 brakes appear to be at least an option
...the iconic 3-gauge cluster

The bad...
...a lot of the exterior
...massive rectangular front grille is the worst (was size determined by intake requirements?)
...side view appears OK but lines are suboptimally shown due to lemon-lime color choice
...both front and rear look too much like a Detroit muscle car and not a Z sports car despite Nissan's insistence they're trying to channel previous Z generations.
...chrome "katana" trim, WTH?
...black roof, black lower front lip, black strip between tail lights aren't doing any favors to the lines of the car, and should be offered as an optional black package at most.
...horrible presentation leaves you wondering WTF are they thinking

Undecided, or not enough info...
...ALL of the performance specs
...color choices
...a lot of the interior and tech stuff
...new CSC or the old one from their parts bin?
...diff?, steering?
...PRICE
...availability

I ordered a 350 back in 2002 and was so excited about that car that I wore out at least 10 brochures drooling at the pictures while I was waiting for my order to arrive. Then I modded it a lot just because I could. I had it for 17 years before I had to sell it (long story) and I've pined for another Z ever since. I was hoping Nissan would build something that I liked as much as my 350 and that I wouldn't HAVE to mod it because I don't want to do that again.

After last night's presentation, I'm just not feeling it.

ETA: Nissan has to know that a lot of Z owners have been anxiously waiting for a new Z for years, and that we're a big part of their potential buyer pool. I hope they've got someone reading these forums while they still have time to tweak that design.

The both look better than that blocky front Nissan made, I like the first picture best.
