People have the same lack of power complaint about the 370Z, and rightfully so. In 03 the 350Z was putting out 287HP and that was ~10% higher than the 03 Mustang GT. From 04-08 the 350Z was pushed up to 306HP so it stayed close to the other cars in its class in power.

With the 370Z in 09 it was ahead of the Mustang GTs. But when the 11 GTs came out with the 412HP V8s and then bumping it to 420HP, the Z was left behind. Then the Camaros and Challengers came out and both offer more power than the Z. Even the Genesis can come with a NA V6 pushing out 348HP.

Needless to say the BRZ/FRS is below this tier of vehicles that the Z is in. But much like the Z owners compare their car to the performance of the lowest end Porsche, the BRZ/FRS owners compare their car to the sports car on the next price tier up. People just like to feel they got good value for the money spent, in my opinion.

Have you ever raced them at the drag strip? I smoke the challengers and beat the 5.0's often. The look on their face is priceless and I have only seen one BRZ there with a turbo setup. He wanted to race me and stated that he ran a 13.8 with it. He asked me what I was running and I told him my best time for the night was a 13.3. Specs came from MT, and testing was done with 6mt. I'm sure their auto is a little faster.

By paper the 5.0 is faster. It's launching then that kills them at the strip. For all the average Joes it's a drivers race. The automatic Z launches hard and quick while the stang hops and jumps out the hole. The challengers are overweight and can easily be beat. Camaros are the same too. Once they put a few mods on them it's over tho but stock for stock the 6 banger Z will win more than you think.
