Fell in love with my car again.

It's been a crazy month in the life of my Z. It finally feels like the car is sorted, safe, and fun to drive.

Mog Story: Trailered to its new home, and mocked up the new (Honda Civic) radiator. On Saturday is autocross in the Z , then pulling the engine on Sunday to have rebuilt. Going with 87mm piston liners that will bump displacement from 2.0L to 2.2L. All new rotating assembly, regrind the cam, new cam retainers/springs, new pushrods, and unleaded-gasoline valves and valve seats. Can't wait.

British cars aren't known for reliability, so I'm guessing the rad will be the last part to give up the ghost

Tuned finally @ Specialty Z

This was today after work.
Baseline HP/TQ was 283.56 / 235.97
First run 305.56 / 248.38
Second run 308.18 / 247.75
Final run 312.03 / 272.23
5 Maps

Saw two other Z34's in the shop. Both FI and from out of State. One's from AZ and forgot where the other one was from. Both forum members but don't know who.

Agreed. 91 octane map. I was told he does not see this often. He also explained the car was running slightly rich. I said I understand and that's why I'm here but will be leaving your shop slightly poor.

My rear tires went bald. So I swapped them out for a different set. They were the O.E yokohama. I'm running a temp set of rears from my gf's Z. I noticed an increase in mpg though!

you on 18's or 19's? i tossed out my advans with about 3-4/32 left and went RE11's. :p such great tires. whole different level vs advans.

Zerocool 08-05-2014 07:33 PM

18's for now. Still looking for wheels. Trying to grab a set that I haven't seen on a Z yet.

The advans are really expensive lol. I didn't realize how heavy they were too. The tires of I have on the rears are 5lbs lighter on each side

yah, those advans are kinda dated performance too... the 19's are fairly light vs the bridgestones.

if you want light, go with continental DW. those things grip fairly well and very light weight. like 5-6lbs lighter than the RE050/S04 in 19's. :D i run DW on my weds.

I said the same thing when I picked up my z at the stealership.

"what the...advans? what is this fast and the furious circa 2001?"

I like your weds a lot. They look great on the z. ah decisions decisions

Thanks! And pretty good, the bracket fit perfect, the seat is a bit big up top so the seat belt sits in a weird spot, but it's manageable.

with LM60's you might be able to wing toronto winters, but i always
thought my car was a sitting duck in the ice/snow when i ran my G in the
winter with LM60's. my car was fine, but could not help but feel i will
get hit by other cars. never doing that again. :ugh:

Topped off my brake fluid reservoir. I had to open one of my bottles of motul to do it, so I guess I better go ahead and install those new SS brake lines that have been sitting in my garage for several months now. I don't like to keep brake fluid in plastic bottles around for very long as they have been known to allow moisture inside once opened.

Watched my gas gauge drop from 1/2 to less than three dots with a 57 miles range warning...although I only drove 40 miles today. This was my first fill up after break in and my trip meter says I've only gone 275 miles. Will be filling up in the morning with fingers crossed this is an anomaly, cause that would be awful gas mileage for a mostly highway driven DD, usually with cruise on. No, I don't worry about gas mileage, but this really poor rate (based on my driving habits) could indicate potential fuel line issues somewhere, since it is on a car with only 1700 miles on it and not tracked or even hot rodded...Shell premium, so not the gas...

Last weekend mine went from 4 lights to 0 lights to 2 lights to 0 lights to 4 lights over the course of 10 straight-ish miles.

I have that knob in Black. Nice! Scared to get a Tommy K due to theft. My black knob they won't even notice walking by.

Dang that's a nice day trip, we went to looking glass falls Sunday and then took a 30-40 mile detour on the blue ridge Parkway. First time my oil temps got over 220.. lol

I'm scared to get a Tommy K simply because they cost so much . I haven't had a chance to drive mine with the FatBoy yet, I hope it's as good as everyone says it is

Filled up on way to work this morning and car only took 14.12 gallons (and was showing quarter tank on gauge again). Quick math tells me made 19.62 miles per gallon. Last full fill up was 10 Jul and showed 20.01, but I was in break in period and trying to not exceed 4k rpm. So all appears okay, just wish gauge wasn't so flaky with 5 gallons left in tank...another 100 miles is 2-3 extra days I could go between fill-ups! Maybe as I own the car longer and learn it's nuances better, I'll feel more confident relying on on odometer/distance driven...or I'll just resign myself to filling up at 1/4 tank remaining.
