so unfortunately for myselfand nissan (I guess) I am now considering trading my nismo in on a 2012 5.0 mustang. This guy from my area is interested in doing a straight up trade. My nismo has hea high mileage at now 78k but ive aways taken excellent care of it and its super clean and still screams. but with the new 2015 nismo let down and all and quickly plummeting value of my z I am actually considering trading for the monster 5.0. He has a boss 302intake manifold, long tube headers and flowmasters exhaust leather interior and nice sound system in the gt. I cant seem to get past the fact that its a mustang though. however it sounds sexxxxyyyy when it revs man. what do u guys think? has nissan pissed you off with their cheap csc issues and just litte things as much as they have me?

5.0 is a nice car but the 370, especially the Nismo, is a unique car. I get so excited seeing another 370 on the road. I literally see a Mustang at ever intersection. Sure most aren't beastly 5.0s but to the general public, they are all the same.

See thats what ive always thought and still find myself thinking most of the time. But the fact that a mustang is certainly not rare i think a nicely modded and good ooking mustang that gets my attention is rare. And its true that every once in a blue moon one pulls into a car show behind the countless other ones that says hey im a mustang but a damn fine one at that. I used to find mysef judging all the american makes and scoffing but as i get older and more appreciative of all cars I think ya know at least ford has the decency to provide an enthusiast car with frequent refreshers with a reasonable after market. Plus market value of that car is about 5k more than my car so thinking logically its a no brainer...

And then theres the problem of rapidly growing ricer crowd getting into the 370 platform as it slowly creeps into the lower $20k dollar range and as douchebags slowly total their 350's. If you dont believe me go look at the 370z facebook page...or don't i had to leave it. Ugh ive had 3 z's and i hate leaving but 2 seats is no longer practical even for a weekend cruise as i may want to take my wife and baby along once in a while. and while it may be tight in a stang its certainly doable.

I did test drive the mustang and the power was fantastic. id certainly be lowering 1.5" and doing the full roush suspension package.

My clutch pedal is on the floor right now, and I can't go to work (it was working on Fri). Thankfully, my Z1 CSC delete kit is supposed to arrive at my office tomorrow.

To answer your question. Nissan has pissed me off a little with how they respond to warranty claims on prone-to-fail OEM parts like the ESCL and CSC. But obviously not as much as you. I would never trade my Z for a Mustang

Nissan has pissed me off so much that we traded our 2013 GT-R in on the 2014 Corvette. I got tired of being treated like crap by them and always having to argue over ever little item/dollar. The final straw is when they scratched the front up and didn't want to pay for it. $2600 out of my pocket and I was done with the GTR.

I did buy and love my Nismo. The deal was to good to pass up, $36,000 for a 2013 with 1800 miles. I just don't take it to Nissan.

I'm in the process of trading in my Z because I can't find a competent service department near me. I've driven several newer Mustangs and, unless you are in a base model, they all handle reasonably well. Not as well as the Z but a LOT better than the 196x models I've owned in the past. I like the old-school styling of the newer Mustangs. And, yes, a V-8 sounds better than a six any day, IMNSHO. If you can get a good deal on the 5.0, I'd say go for it.

i wouldnt do it. there's a reason why the other party wants your older, higher milage car. think about it before you pull the trigger.

I'd like to clarify something here. When you refer to getting pissed at Nissan, I assume that you are talking about corporate. It's not fair to link a horrible dealer experience to the car manufacturer unless corporate is involved in your experience.

The dealers are their own entities, and customer service can vary to great extremes regardless of the car manufacturer. One of the Nissan dealers in town did service on my Z without my permission and then tried to charge me for it. I'm not blaming Nissan for that; it was the idiot service manager at that particular dealer not listening to his customer. Having a trustworthy dealer or not would impact my decision to purchase that particular car make, but not in the case of the Z, as I made the decision to do my own work on the car.

I definitely appreciate all the input guys. By no means am I trying to turn this into a flame thread as I have appreciated the z for what it has been as I appreciate cars from every make. Most ppl seem to view trading the z for a mustang as like the last car I'll ever own or something like I'm making this horrible mistake I'll never be able to live down lol. I look at it as an opportunity to try something new and if I don't like it I can always move on lol. So far the leather interior of the mustang and the throaty growl of that v8 seem to best the 370 for me (at least until Nissan decides to put out the z35) plus as I don't autox or track the nismo the pros for owning one (like the handling ) seem under utilyzed where as I can use that v8 acceleration at any stop light I want. The z has been an awesome car but maybe I'm just due for a change.

I agree with Kenchan. Have you put yourself in the other guy's shoes to try and see what he's thinking? Maybe even ask him?

Yeah fair point I'm speaking of the company as a whole making decisions like a plastic body csc and a steering column that locks up and having what I consider as being serious issues that cost lots of money for repairs unheard of on other cars. I don't usually deal with dealers as they tend to be slimey any way you cut it.

And as for reason he wants to trade. He's always been into the Jdm market having lined lots of imports. No idea why he sprung for the mustang but I'm not a strictly import guy I've had camaros and liked them a lot I got the z cuz it was sexy and fast and used to be unmatched in performance at the price point. Tables seem to be turning for sure.

Yep. I've had lots of luck with dealerships/service, but Nissan themselves have lost me as a customer due to their cutting corners and putting the burden and cost of that land squarely on the people that should be their brand ambassadors for Nissan.

Sorry to hear that. I had the same issue (as you probably remember from my posts last week). I'm working with the Nissan Exectuve Consumer Affairs team right now to see if there is something they could do. It's been a fight just to get to that level however, as the regional consumer affairs and their supervisor basically botched my case and didn't look into what they were oringally supposed to, which was reimbursement for the steering wheel lock.

Bingo. As I mentioned above and in other posts, Nissan dealerships aren't owned by Nissan. Nissan should be informed if you are having issues with their dealerships, but they are not one and the same. Nissan is the one that has let down a lot of us. A bad dealership experience still sucks, but you can usually find another service department to take care of you.
